FoE has consistently been a little to no margin market due to the types of vehicles that get purchased - Light and Small vehicles and commercials. High development costs and little margin. That's why MEB agreement with VW - to consolidate costs. You literally need to be part of an alliance to make a profit in Europe now - VW Group, PSA, Renault / Nissan / Mitsu etc. While the vehicles Ford are dropping might be missed (Focus, Fiesta etc.), their impact on Ford's bottom line will barely rate a mention.

Front wheels were moved forward to allow for Hybrid. Suspension moved outboard to fit a euro-pallet.
Take a look at the reviews of the RoW model (esp. the Oz reviews) and they explain it really well.
Part of the reason for some of the changes was the platform sharing agreement with Volkswagen, whereby they had certain requirements before they'd sign the deal.

Better to be capacity restrained than pumping out thousands of vehicles to sit in lots for months on end and end up discounted.

Haven't we already been told the next EV truck will be Ranger based? Would that not fit with Ranger being T6.2?

Having been in credit collections for vehicles, I can only feel sorry for those collectors who will no longer get to feel the buzz of having a car they've been chasing for months finally show up in the parking lot of a local pub and getting that call to tell you it's on the bed heading back to the repo depot.

That's like saying you're still using grandpa's old axe, when the handle has been replaced 5 times and the blade replaced 3. It's not grandpa's old axe any more.
The 4l Barra was, and remains, an awesome engine. Ppl are getting 1000+ HP from them. In terms of straight 6s, they're absolutely up there with the RB26T and the BMW straight 6 of the time. Considering FoA had pennies to develop it, it's an amazing engine.
Ford would have done well to utilise it across the pond. Would have made a great Jag engine.

Is this short sighted on Ford's part?
I mean, Rivian aren't out of the woods yet, but they're rolling vehicles out, and they have aassive contract with Amazon... Reviews of the vehicles are positive - there are quality issues to be sure, but given time I'm sure they'll sort those out. Tesla's are still built with inconsistent panel gaps and people don't seem to care.
I dunno. I think there's a lot more value to be had holding on to that stake at least until production ramps up fully... Not so much as a strategic investment, but as a capital gain investment.

If Ford cannot get rid of the dealers, they'll simply either not renew the agreements, or buy them out and convert dealerships to agencies like Mercedes and Honda have here in Oz, which I really think is a test case for the rest of the world.
The manufacturer owns the dealer license, and the dealership owns no stock. They're simply a Point of Sale and pickup. There's no haggling, as the prices are fixed. There's also no markups.

Existing franchise agreements will be absorbed by Ford Blue, while those that stump up the 1.2 will sign agreements with Model E in addition to Ford Blue.

Imagine before the bailouts (not Ford) someone said to you that Ford would essentially be making cars to order, instead of having months of inventory sitting on dealer lots losing them money...

The front end, the side glasshouse, the rear fastback... Lots of Mustang 2 influence, but why on gods green earth would you take influence from that abomination?
I mean, this isn't hideous or anything, but the current gen is tougher, meaner...

I fear you're going to be very disappointed. You'll probably find there'll be a "Comfort Pack" which includes heated seats and massage function. One or the other will be $15/month, but both will be $20, so you'll send up just going for both.

Interesting in the Munro live interview, Farley saying they have no inventory at all on a number of vehicles. Every vehicle being made is spoken for. He specifically mentioned Maverick. Stock on dealer lots is awaiting pickup, not purchase.
Contrast that to VW with 153 days of ID4 stock on hand.

Subscriptions and recurring revenue are the big thing in the corporate world now. Media was first, then software, and now everyone that can will try to jump on the bandwagon.
Buying a vehicle is a once off, non recurring income for the manufacturer. It's essentially worth nothing once the transaction is made. There's no guarantee you'll go back, and at best it may be every few years.
Recurring revenue is where it's at. Ford Pro software is the start of it, and has the potential to be huge, but features in consumer vehicles will follow, make no mistake.

Yeah, but I see cases like Oz being test cases towards everyone doing this wherever they can. Manufacturers get the full retail margin, minus a handling fee. Tesla have shown it works.

Honda and Mercedes have gone to this model here in Oz.
Set prices, no negotiation, dealer acts as agent, gets a fee for "handling" the vehicle. The automaker is the "dealer" and owns the (one) dealer license.

I think 4k units will be underestimating things. It will still be a drop in the ocean, but I wouldn't be surprised to see numbers of 7k units pretty quickly, production allowing.
Anecdotally there seems to be a lot of knowledge of and loyalty to the F series here (even though it hasn't been sold here for years), and with the dealer base, 7k/yr is only 3 units per month per dealer. 2 units per dealer or month puts it at over 4k annually. I think they'll walk that in.

Until the competition start getting reviews that end with "You should buy this over a Tesla" Tesla have no reason to do MCEs.
The competition is still catching up to what Tesla released 4, 5, 6 years ago...
