  1. Obviously you have never owned or driven a diesel Excursion. I have owned 3, still have the 2005 and will keep it until it falls apart because there is nothing like it on the market. It is the best vehicle I have had for snow. Have had 2 Ford Dealer try to buy it outright in the last few months when I had in on the lot looking at new Edges. So there is some demand out there. I bought and use it to tow with and replaced a F-350 with my first one and have never looked back. Never should have been offered with anything but the V-10 or diesel. The 5.4 was too small for a vehicle this size.

Just imagine an excursion with the new 6.7L diesel. It would get better MPG than many of the crossovers and sedans on the road.

  2. Bring back the Ex and make it available by order only. No marketing required except a brochure at the dealer.

Probably a pipe dream, but I would like to see this happen just as much as the next guy. I came close to spending $50-$60K on a new 2010/11 Expy. However, when I reaized all of the compromises I would be making (i.e. cargo capacity, engine options, interior seating space, towing capacity, etc.) I had a change of heart and couldn't pull the trigger. Instead, I found a used Excursion for a whole lot less and I haven't looked back since. The Excursion is a utility vehicle and that is what I use it for. There is nothing better for hauling large groups of family and friends on long road trips or for towing weekend toys (boats, TTs, etc.). If you think the gas mileage is poor and too expensive for your tastes then find another vehicle that better suits your needs. There are enough of them out there to choose from.

I don't use my Excursion as an every day vehicle, but it is perfect for out of town trips or even just when you have a lot of family or friends in town to tote around. With higher gas prices the market for large SUVs has obviously become a niche market, but that doesn't mean a company can't still make a profit while pushing smaller quantities from the line. There are still plenty of people with large families and/or large toys that only an Excursion can accomodate.

Does anyone have the figures for the # of F550s, F650s, F750s, E-Series. etc. produced each year?

FORD, PLEASE BRING BACK THE EXCURSION!!

  3. ...As far as worrying about room in the wheelwell, neither an 18" or 20" wheel would generally be a factor with large 4x4's like the Expedition. Lots of room in the wheelwells for most applications. That is unless someone were putting very large tires specifically for hard core off-roading, which did not seem to be a concern for newford (or most 4x4 owners, who are usually only off-road when they are in a parking lot at the mall)....

Hope this information helps someone :shift: .

    Good luck. :beerchug:

    Appreciate your input!

Just to clarify. 4x4 primarily for driving through snow, for when launching and pulling boat out of water, and some basic trails, but no hardcore off-roading. Want 4x4 for just a little more than the mall parking lot though. :D The Raptor, not the Expy, would be my choice if I wanted to do real off-roading. B)

  4. Any word on the 2011 Order Guide yet? Usually they start coming out about now. I'm really hoping for the new 5.0 or 6.2 engine in the Expedition like the F150 will be getting. A minor refresh would be nice too.

I am curious too. Hopefully, we'll see the new order guide in the next few weeks to end all of the speculation.

  5. What do you think of the Air Ride Suspension in an Expy EL 4x4? Is it worth it for occasional towing of about a 6500 boat/trailer, or is it just something with minimal benefits that will cause problems years later?

Also, is it possible to get the Air Ride Suspension in a KR Expy without the "KR luxury package?" I tried on the Ford site, but it wanted me to add the KR luxury package when I checked the box for air ride suspension. I was curious if there was still a way to add it without the luxury package.

    Thanks!

  6. Hi newford. :D You will get varying opinions according to the personal preference of the individual replying, but here are few off the top of my head:

18" pros - Lower purchase cost. Better ride due to higher profile (larger sidewall) tires. Replacement tires are less expensive.

20" pros - Possibly slightly better handling due to lower profile tires. But after all, it is a large SUV so "slightly better handling" is a relative term. Most people feel a larger wheel looks better.

18" cons - Most people feel smaller wheels do not look as good as larger wheels. Possibly slightly worse handling (but again, the terms "large SUV" and "handling" generally do not mix well anyway).

20" cons - Higher purchase cost. Replacement tires are more expensive. Possible higher chance of wheel damage due to shorter sidewalls (potholes etc.). Slightly lower fuel mileage due to heavier wheel weight (again, the terms "large SUV" and "good fuel mileage" are contradictory).

My bottom line opinion: It comes down to what is important to you: The looks of the 20's or the better ride of the 18's. If money matters, the lower cost of the 18's, both upfront for the wheels and later for replacement tires could be a factor.

Slightly better handling (20's) or slightly better fuel mileage (18's)? Let's face it if someone is greatly interested in either handling or mpg's, they are not buying a large SUV in the first place.

Like I stated upfront, this is just few ideas off the top of my head, and it is a highly personal preference type of question.

Whatever you decide to do, good luck. :beerchug:

    Great info! Thanks!

  7. Ford will wait till M.Y. 12' to do a redesign on the Expy/Navi to follow GM's 12' big SUV redesign. I think Ford will have the SUV's on the F-150 platform with tralier sway, 5.0, 6.2, Work Solutions, Sync and rollover protection. Ford might jump the gun and offer ethier the 5.0 or 6.2 on the Navi before redesign to steal thunder away from the new Infiniti QX and Escalade.

Does that mean the next gen Expy is going to do away with the IRS?

  8. I found some articles that mentioned the ford fusion getting MyFord Touch, but I couldn't find any mention of the future plans to add it to any other vehicles. Anyone hear anything else?

  9. Thanks for all of the replies. That's exactly what I was hoping to hear. I'll keep checking, but there have been zero KR Expys at any of the nearby dealers for a while now. I still want to see it in person, but it's good to have other opionions since the one dealership I talked to did everything they could to push me away from the KR. They probably just wanted me to get one of the limited Expys on the lot.

  10. Just wondering what everyone thinks about the Expy in the Limited trim package vs. the King Ranch? It's my understanding that, aside from the special leather and a few King Ranch emblems on seats and rims, every other option is available in both trims.

Is the King Ranch leather that much nicer for the extra money? A local dealer stated that the King Ranch leather was very high maintenance and not really more durable than the regular Limited leather, but I was wondering what everyone here thought of it.

    Thanks!
