  1. Has anybody found wheel locks that fit the wheels on the 2012? I have a titanium with 17" wheels, and the lugs are short, really short. I haven't had a chance to measure them yet, so I don't know exactly how short.

The wheel locks the dealer tried to sell me, and ones that I ordered online, would stick out almost an inch from the face of the wheel and the rest of the lugs.

Which ones did you order online?

FWIW, here are the prices for new wheels (fordparts.com):

    17" alloy (std on Titanium) - $391.73

    17" machined and painted - $411.97

    18" alloy - $474.88

    17" polished aluminum - $582.12

  2. We are having the following issues with our one month old 2012 Focus. How about anybody else?

    [

    u]Synch/My Ford Touch/Nav[/u]

    1) Shortly after vehicle start-up, our LG cell phone connects then within minutes we get a message "phone disconnected synch trying to reconnect". When the warning expires, the phone is connected. The same phone works fine with our 2010 Edge Limited. Removing and repairiing the phone did not help.

    2) Our Clock is set to Eastern time, however the estimated arrival time for destination seems to be set on an earlier time zone so you arrive one hour before you leave.

    3) Our Sony radio cuts out intermittantly (maybe it's trying to get HD signal?)

    4) The Nav system doesn't recognize my cabin address up north. Also my home address is 1/2 block away from reality. The NAV system on my 2010 Edge is more accurate and favorites on the Edge is more easily managable..

None of these issues is fatal and we understand that Ford is working on an update.

We plan a long trip later this month to get a better handle on the issues and really get a feel for the car.

In the first month we got 30 mpg driving mostly in the city. It rides well. It takes awhile getting use to the rain sensing wipers but we are there now. Love the keyless push button start.

Regarding the clock issue, do you have GPS time sync turned on?

  3. They wouldn't - it must be either a material/parts shortage or it was causing some type of problem. I don't think it's just a decontenting/cost saving thing or they would not have done it at all.

    I agree.

Actually, this is kinda funny. Some people that don't have the engine cover want one and I am now wondering if I should remove mine.

In any case, I wouldn't assume anything as to why it was deleted. It's possible that the engine cover was removed for a good reason (such as something heat related).

  4. Every company will have cars with some issues from time to time, thats a big reason for the bumper to bumper warranty. I think your frustration should be directed at the dealer more than the vehicle. If you custom ordered, they would have had to take off the plastic, and get it ready for you, how did they at least not notice there wasn't a cover over where the ignition would be? The vent, eh, minor issue, nothing too major. I hope things get taken care of for you though!

Of course a new car may have some problems. My frustration is really with the dealer for not following up with me.

As I said previously, if the car is not perfect, I expect the dealer to do their best to resolve any issues.

  5. While going over the car (Titanium 5dr) at the dealer, I noticed that the round cover (where the ignition lock would normally be) is missing. "Can't find it... wait... we'll order one thru the parts dept. and send it to you... wait... the parts dept. can't find the part number... wait... we'll try to find the part number and order one, I'll follow up and call you later".

Later, on the drive home, I noticed that the driver vent control (to the left of the touchscreen) is not working. I can turn the knob but the vent remains closed. The passenger side works fine. I call the salesman. "I'll make an appointment for you with the service department and call you back."

When I called the salesman, it was slightly before 5:00 PM. The dealership closes at 9:00 PM. He was supposed to call me and let me know if they were able to order the round cover and to let me know about the service appointment. He never called.

Cars deteriorate over time, so when someone buys a new car (and I paid cash), they want it to be perfect. If it's not perfect, they expect the dealer to do their very best to make it right.

Right now, I'm not happy with the car and I'm certainly not happy with the dealer.

P.S. Does anyone know if service and parts information for this car exists as of now?

  6. actually that IS news to me, I always thought when the light went green or went off it was go time amd the elapsed time gos from there. Otherwise I could basically wait until the guy in the other line had finished....interesting...in that case what is the point of the Xmas tree.....? decoration?....lol

The winner of a drag race is the person that gets to the "finish line" first (without "red-lighting"). Drag races are often won with a slower E.T. and a faster reaction time.

  7. Thanks Pioneer. I honestly don't think it can even come close. I'm angry all the time anymore. It's like standing in line for a concert for days...and then when the gates open...the security guards start calling the names of people way behind you. It makes no sense. My car was built the 2nd...released to be shipped the 3rd...got an ETA on the 4th or 5th...then the lot was put on hold for a day or so...then it was re-released on the 7th. It seems that if your car is put on hold...if even for a day...it screws you for weeks. If it is built and there are not problems it goes out fast...if not...you will wait terribly long. It's not fair and it's not right. My car should be here by now and someone should be making sure it happens.

I understand some of your frustrations considering that you currently do not have an ETA but...

What is fair? There are people that placed their order well before yours but your car was built before theirs.

My point is this: I am not upset in the slightest (even though I placed my order more than 5 months ago) because I had no real expectations about the entire process.

I plan to keep this car for a long time so the important thing is the quality, not getting it fast.

  8. You've had a VIN since April 14th. It was built on the May 10th.

In Transit Shipped Rail - Railcar # ETTX900288 (Norfolk Southern Corp) Ramp 4G, Mi Assembly Plant, MI ETA May-31-2011

    Thank you very much.

I just got the VIN because the dealer hasn't contacted me since I placed my order (on 12/11/10), so I called him yesterday.

I am a bit surprised at the ~2 week shipping time. I knew trains were slow but...

  9. I was on build and price, looking at focus titaniums, and I noticed that the navigation didn't say if it had sony sound system. Most of fords other cars come with both when you check the nav box, does the focus? Thanks!

The Titanium comes with the Sony sound system. The navigation option comes in the form of a SD card (i.e. no hardware is changed or added).

  10. The problem is, is that arrival date isn't generally well known. You will get a build date, but it will be some amount of time between build date and arriving at your dealer. It could be as little as a few days to a number of weeks/months. It depends on how far you live from the plant, what shipping methods they use, if any holds are placed on the vehicles after they are made, etc.

I don't have a good reference, but I would guess ~1-2wks after the build date to get it - although I'm hoping that here in south-east Michigan, it will only be a few days.

    Thank you for your reply.

Do you know what the typical time is between the dealer receiving the build date and the actual build date?

I am assuming that the build date is typically scheduled X number of days in advance of the actual build date.

  11. What I would like to know is typically how far in advance a dealer would know the arrival date for a pre-ordered car.

For example, if a car were to arrive at the dealer on April 1, when would I be informed of this?

Hopefully it is a minimum of 30 days.

  12. While I was reading one of the technical spec documents on the car, I noticed it stated that 87 octane was the minimum octane rating, making me wonder if the car would be programmed to get more power out of higher octane ratings. I then searched my PDF copy of the owner's guide, and sure enough, I found this:

"Premium fuel will provide improved performance."

Excellent. Anyone know how much of a power difference we're talking about? I would gladly pay for premium gas if I knew I would get 5 or more hp out of it.

Assuming that the engine has a knock sensor, I doubt whether the power keeps increasing (by timing advance) as the octane goes up.

It very well may be that 91 offers no advantage over 89.

In any case, it's good to know that the engine is happy with 87 and can take advantage of higher octane fuel.

  13. I wouldn't expect much in the way of discounts or incentives early on. Because of the attention the Focus is getting, there will be usual early enthusiasm, "gotta have it first" environment that accompanies a lot new models.

My family & I have bought lots of cars from my dealer and pricing has always been very good. So, I haven't even talked price other than the MSRP. There is, of course, the $500 technology rebate if you order before February xx.

Later in the model year, the may be a good interest rate or rebates on the Focus, but the domestic manufacturers have tried to move away from those in the last year or so.

I understand what you are saying but...

For example, if it were a new "hot" car and a dealer was only getting a few of them, the dealer would (understandably) not want to sell one at below MSRP.

Since I would be ordering the car, I'm not sure why a dealer wouldn't be willing to knock $500 off the MSRP considering that there are many other Ford dealers in SoCal. A dealer would have a choice of making a decent profit or nothing at all (in case I go to another dealer).

    One other thought:

Do dealers normally have allocations for "normal cars"? In other words, if I order a new Focus from a dealer, does that mean that it would translate to one less car that they could order for their lot (and potentially sell at MSRP)?

  14. Anyone seen photos of the 2012 Focus line up at the LA Auto Show? Road & Track magazine has some but don't see any of the sedan.

There was a silver sedan that was pretty much fully loaded.

In fact, I believe it was the only Focus there that you could actually sit in (and play around with the electronics).
