  1. Automotive leather in domestics is coated with a clear coat type material. No fancy soaps or conditioners are needed. Steam is the best option. An all purpose cleaner that is ph balanced and diluted well will work. Dampen a sponge with the cleaner and dry it after with a micro fiber.

  2. Google Shelby GR-1. It's been around awhile.

Was definitely a gorgeous concept. It was based on many of the same mechanicals as the Ford GT.

Thanks guys, I wasn't sure. I was hopeful it was something new coming down the pipe..it is beautiful!!

  3. Since I'm fairly new to this forum, I don't know if these pictures are old news or what, but I got this email showing them and they look gorgeous!!!! Has this car already been in circulation or is this something new?

  4. I wish I'd seen this thread before posting one of my own. To the O/P, good job in summation. I would like to add a few thoughts of my own. For Buick, it was the Lucerne INTERIOR that really impressed me. The wooden wheel, the wood trim, the Bang and Oslen stereo, the DVD screens in the back...what a great family car. It just needs the Ecoboost engine and a nice exterior. I go to sleep when I see it from the exterior.

For BMW, the 5 series GT is incredible. Horniest looking BMW 4 door they have had in a long time. I think it's nicer looking than the X6.

For Hyundai, I can't help drooling over the Equus. Love that car. Needs AWD and a more efficent powertrain but damn, it is a fine car. Especially the top tier one.

  5. I changed my shift today so I could attend the Auto Show in Detroit. I haven't missed one in years. I thought the Ford display was well done and it was crawling with people. There were several Edges on display and they were wearing the 20" chrome wheels..they look great! They had 3 MKX's on display too. They had a black one like mine but it had tan interior and the light wood whereas mine is black interior with the dark wood (like mine more, LOL). The products look great and seem to be well received by a lot of people.

  6. I agree with Timmm55. I think his examples of Taurus and especially Hyundai prove that people can forget negative connotations to a degree if the new car is good enough. Now, I did say "to a degree". I don't think Hyundai would ever be foolish enough to come out with another car called the Pony. Some memories do last that long. Just like the name Edsel had such a bad connotation for decades. I'm in my late 40's and even I remember that growing up. I don't think you'll ever see that name revisited even thought it's been like 50 years.

  7. I have an 11 MKX with 20" chrome wheels. I suspect your problem is your tires. The importance of proper winter tires is so underrated, it's not funny. Your tires make much more of a difference than your drive system ever will. You could have 10 wheel drive but couple that with All Season Tires and you will sit and spin. Compare that to a RWD car with snow tires that will run circles around you. I have Pirelli Scorpion M&S tires on mine. What have you got? Being in Windsor, we don't get near the snow you do 3 hours up the road. I would strongly, strongly suggest you invest in a 2nd set of wheels and install proper winter tires on them. The rubber compound is much softer and will give you great traction. That can make the difference between stopping in time or hitting something. What qualifies me to yack on about the importance of tires? I was a Collision Reconstructionist (investigate Traffic fatalities) for 5 years. The compound on All Seasons turn so hard under about 5 degrees C that they slide like a hockey puck..not good. You put winter tires on your MKT and you will get through damned near anything (other than maybe that mess they had on the 402). It is better to invest in a 2nd set of wheels than to change tires back and forth too.

If you do this, please let me know what difference it makes for you. I want you and your family to be safe.

  8. I have now had my MKX for 2 weeks. I love it. I have had no issues whatsoever with Sync or pairing the iphone or anything. There are 2 small related sync improvements I would like to see implemented that I also believe are safety items. In addition, there is a design improvement I would like to see.

First for the software. I have found driving in Winter that I adjust the heated wheel (it's awesome how quickly it warms up and how hot it gets!) as well as adjust the heated seats. To do this, one MUST do it through the touch screen. It's a safety issue. You must first place your finger close to the button, look back at the road; then push the button and look back at the road; and then look again to make sure the tactile push activated the button or not. It would be much safer to have Sync add some commands to its vocabulary to activate or deactivate the heated wheel as well as commands to turn the seat heater on as well as commands to turn it down and off. This should be simple to do you would think based on what it's capable of doing already.

The other issue is how wide the back doors open. I wish they would open wider to accommodate loading kids into their car seats. It is crowded to try to get in there and lean over the seat to do it up. A wider opening would help tremendously.

Again, I love this car and have been recommending it to a lot of people.

That's an interesting shot. Looks like the front of my MKX. How big was it? As far as just rebadging the Explorer goes, that's a big criticism for Lincoln right now: they need more autonomy and not produce such obvious twin vehicles. MKT/Flex shows what can happen when you want them to look different. I saw a white MKT and it looked stunning. Some colours look better on that car than others.

  10. Mitsubishi's Gallant made their list. This line made me laugh my ass off, love it!:

"Cars like the Hyundai Sonata attempt to put 15 feet of styling on a 10-foot car. The Galant is the opposite. It's 10 feet of styling on a 15-foot car. Uninspired. Uncompetitive. Unremarkable".

  11. I see the 2011 Edge ALL over my neck of the woods now, the MKXs are also starting to show up more and more. They tend to be extremely popular suburban crawlers in the cold white north so I'm not surprised I see more Edges than any other new Ford. The Sport is still a rarity, I've only seen one so far. The Edge front-end really standsout in in the dark, especially with HIDs and those light-pipes. I wish the MKX had some sort of accent lighting on the front-fascia like the Edge or Audi. I still wish the Edge got some LEDs in the taillights, Ford needs to work on making LED backlamps standard on all their new cars.

Borg, the MKX has the swivel HID's which are nice, but you're right, where they're lacking is in the LED lighting at the front. There is very, very little that this cutting-edge (intended pun) vehicle doesn't have. I'm sure you will see that when they change it in another 2 years or so. Maybe even LED headlights. I think Mercedes is the only one so far to employ LED headlights (not just DRL's) if I'm not mistaken.
