  1. I've searched on this and didn't see anything, and I've already contacted the dealer about this, and I'm waiting for them to test on a Ex Limited, but I ran into an issue (more of an inconvenience, really), and I was hoping someone on here could also test and see if they can confirm.

If I remote start my Explorer, get in, and turn the car on (hit the start button), I am unable to turn on the cruise control (ACC graphic blinks on then goes right off). If I stop the engine and start it normally (without remote start), I am able to turn the cruise control on. It seems to be a very weird issue, and like I said is probably more on an inconvenience, but I'm looking for confirmation that it affects more than just my vehicle at this point...

    Has anyone else noticed this?

    Thanks!

when you get in do you apply the brake pedal to disable remote start?

  2. (I'm getting sick of this.

A dealership transmission specialist is way more likely to do an internal trans repair than an independant garage. (Unless of course the independant is a tranny shop named "trans plus" or whatever.) Ask me how I know.

If the chain slips on the variators you might as well replace the whole thing. Hmmmm.... $4000 for a new chain and variators, plus filters, seals and gaskets; or $5000 for a new one with a Ford warranty.

Plus, there is no way an independant has all the special tools just to split the case on one, or all the special tools to reinstall the case half. Trust me, its quite a contraption. About 30 pieces to each tool.

No one should let an independant touch one of these things. I wouldn't even let them flush it because they might put the wrong fluid in which will cause failure. Again, ask me how I know. )

amen fellow technician! nothing can ruin a trans faster then a quicky lube dork using the wrong fluid(or none for that matter)then send it to us to fix(what do you mean there is no warranty on the trans that quickydork just wrecked) these fly by night mechanics sicken me,if people only knew how many 1000's of hours of training we have to take to get master status and it's on going as vehicle systems change every year.

  3. I apologize for seeming ignorant about this oil. I guess I am since I use Mobil 1 in everything I own. I wasn't asking if it matters if it comes from Wal-Mart. I only said that because that's about the only place I can find it here.

I've poured this stuff once and from what I've seen, although it was dark, it's not the exact same stuff thats installed in the factory unless something has changed. A friend of mine purchased 4 new Ford Vehicles in six years and changed the factory oil within the first couple weeks of owning them all. The factory oil was green. I didn't believe it until I saw it in a clear container, but it was green. I did a few first oil changes on various Fords for other people and noticed the same thing.

The main thing I was asking is if anyone has used that oil in comparison to something else and noticed a difference.

For example, my Mustang makes more engine noise with fresh Castrol Syntec than it does with Mobil 1 after 6000 miles. Drained the Castrol and put in Mobil1, and it was silent. As far as I'm concerned, Castrol Syntec doesn't hold up "perfectly" and it costs twice as much and is full synthetic. BMW installs it from the factory but my small block V8 still thinks it crap. So, why should I trust the cheapest non-store brand oil on the shelf just because it say's Motorcraft.

the motorcraft 5w20 oil is a semi-synthetic,and the greenish tint in the factory oil is dye for leak detection.

  4. It can be turned off... from page 188 of the manual:

Note: If you are using MyKey™, the Belt-Minder cannot be disabled.

Also, if the Belt-Minder has been previously disabled, it will be

re-enabled after the use of MyKey™. Refer to MyKey™ in the Locks

    and security chapter.

    1. Turn the ignition switch to the on position. DO NOT START THE

    ENGINE.

    2. Wait until the safety belt warning light turns off. (Approximately one

    minute)

    • Step 3 must be completed within 30 seconds after the safety belt

    warning light turns off.

    3. For the seating position being disabled, buckle then unbuckle the

safety belt three times, ending in the unbuckled state.

    • After Step 3, the restraint system warning light (airbag light) will be

    turned on for three seconds.

    4. Within approximately seven seconds of the light turning off, buckle

    then unbuckle the safety belt.

    • This will disable the Belt-Minder feature for that seating position if it

is currently enabled. As confirmation, the restraint system warning

light will flash four times per second for three seconds.

    • This will enable the Belt-Minder feature for that seating position if it

is currently disabled. As confirmation, the restraint system warning

light will flash four times per second for three seconds, followed by

three seconds with the light off, then followed by the restraint system

warning light flashing four times per second for three seconds again.

why would you want to turn off the beltminder?the cops love this modification to meet quotas!! :shades:
