  1. Did I worry about it? No. As a kid, what could I do about it? I was just glad to have a free taxi service. Did I buy something I liked as soon as I humanly could afford to? Yes. People have been image-obsessed for generations. This is nothing new.

It doesn't change the fact that it is a shallow way to think. Flash over substance is generally something that creates problems in the end.

My first car, by choice, was a Ford Tempo. That doesn't exactly say image-obsessed and I'm proud of that fact. Function before form, I say.

  2. This all shows how far behind the times Ford is when it comes to providing tracking information to customers.

Given the weekly tracking updates that cyberdman has so graciously supplied, I have been able to do some detailed tracking myself. I was able to track the train my Fiesta was placed on from the production plant to a port in Veracruz. From there I was able to track the ship it was on as it traveled up the coast to Maryland. The last update from cyberdman was that Bavarian Motor Transport had it, and that marks the first time I haven't been able to track it. If I can gather daily information starting with weekly updates and a little bit of effort, Ford should easily be able to automate it for the customer. After all, if cyberdman can get the information, the information is out there and could be provided in a form similar to UPS or FedEx tracking.

  3. I've gotta say that I'm on the side that says GM killed them. They started to move away from their nice, quirky designs and became somewhat bland not too long after the buyout. Just look at the difference between the earlier Saab 900 and the newer version! Then of course there was the 9-5, a car which I made the mistake of owning.

If things really do completely fall apart and Saab goes under, all I can say is RIP. A great second chance would be missed.

  4. The computer was one example, but you do have the ability to purchase a computer built in the USA if you choose. Here is the website: http://www.computersmadeinusa.com/. If enough people choose to buy them, they will expand and hire more people. Demand will almost always precede supply. (I would leave out the "almost" in that statement, but I'm sure someone could think of a contrary example)

Assembled in the USA, yes. I hope you don't think those most of the parts in those came from the USA, though, because they definitely did not. We don't manufacture them here anymore.

You made the best choice for you, Retro. Once the economy turns around under a different administration (I just had to say that, didn't I? :poke: ) you'll get back on your feet, and you'll purchase something else. Maybe another Ford?

Don't forget for one second which administration this country was under when the worst of this mess started. I'll give you a hint: it was before Obama and after Clinton. That's a solid fact. We were all there when it happened.

  5. Anyhow... :backtotopic:

I think that if Ford offered AWD as an option on the Mustang it really could increase sales. While there are plenty of people who live in areas where the Mustang would be fine all year and others who keep it as a summer car, there are those of us who live in areas that get plenty of snow and don't have the ability to have two cars.

I wouldn't be too quick to advocate only AWD versions, though. That would be a mistake.

  6. Label me weird if you must, but I happen to like the looks of the Nissan Murano Cross-Cabriolet and Cube. I don't like the design of the Juke so much, though.

As far as the new Z models, they disappoint me greatly. They just don't have class like the 280 ZX and earlier models. Heck, even the original version of the 300 ZX was much nicer than the new ones if you ask me.

  7. I don't know if I would say that I have any actual favorites, but when a piece of music has a "driving" Hammond B3 sound, it works for me. The 1968 Deep Purple version of Hush is a good example of what I mean.

Also, after watching the video I think "Driving in my Car" might just need to be added to a playlist. The 1980s were a great time for fun music!

  8. Only to snob audiophiles. Not saying it's great and I don't particularly like Sony audio products but they're not "utter garbage".

Only to snob audiophiles? Not entirely true. Some of Sony's offerings are pretty bad, and some are pretty good. I just wish I had a Sony system as a choice in the Fiesta I ordered. It is available in the European Fiesta Titanium after all.
