Noob here, so apologies for talking out of turn, but we've had a '12 Focus Titanium since May of last year, and have logged 22k in its short life (wife had a temporary commute of 140mi round trip 3x/week until a few weeks ago).
Since I had a buyer commit to my M3 (sold it to by a '13 Mustang GT), I've been putting around 60mi per day on the car in addition to a few beach trips and a 20 hour roundtrip roadtrip to Petit Le Mans last year (Maryland to Atlanta).
In short, I've got extensive time with MFT, and I just have never understood the hate, either from journos or the public. The system has locked on me once when I was going nutty with the button pushing, and even then it was just stuck on the same radio station; climate, etc. were adjustable. My only real grip about the system is the requirement to leave the engine running during upgrades. I've performed two on my own; I am a professional geek, and it seemed pretty straightforward, but there's no real indication given of time remaining, and that could really be done better in my opinion.
But the actual system itself? Apart from the Nav sometimes getting a little confused or the traffic sensing sending me into heavier traffic than I know exists elsewhere, I haven't had any real problem, and I had those problems with standalone Garmins, iPhone nav apps and similar. In any case, that's only one portion of MFT. Looking at the whole system, 99% of the time, it works, has been predictable, and doesn't get in my way. I'm actually going to miss it on my Mustang.
Maybe I've been lucky, but I'm hardly a Ford apologist; this car was the first domestic I've ever owned in 24+ years on the road, and we've been extremely happy with it. You want to see a disaster of a system, go mess around with something like iDrive in BMWs or the goofball system in the Mini.
MFT is definitely not perfect, but it's head and shoulders above any of the other infotainment systems I've played with.
