Just did my first change at 7664 miles.
I should have paid someone to do it... the oil filter is in a next to impossible spot on the 1.6L and the factory must have paid a gorilla to put it on.
Our MPG sucks too. Seems to be a common Ford theme these days.
-
Our mileage is terrible too. 1.6 AWD. 6700 miles. She drives it 20 minutes to work every day via the highway and we average around 21mpg every time we fill up. Even on long highway trips we are in the 23-24mpg range at normal (70-75) speeds.
We take my Corvette on long trips now, I can pull 28mpg@80mph easily.
-
That is nice. It was getting annoying to hold the button don three times to reset the trips.
Ah yes holding ok on that screen resets everything. That was one of the fiancées complaints before
-
Def an improvement
-
We were able to put 3.6 gallons in the escape. Full gauge now. Dealer must have stopped short. Oh well.
New quadrant info screen is nice will post pic later
-
She said the fuel gauge seems to be off. Dealer said they filled it up and she's saying its showing 3/4 tank although the distance to empty is showing just over 300 which is usually does on a full tank. Will look at it tonight and see if there's an issue.
-
Our dealer has been great so far. They said they had it washed and fuel topped off waiting. She is almost there so we will see.
-
We got the call. Fiancee is picking ours up in 20 minutes.

Excuse me for jumping in, but the 1.6 vs. 2.0 decision really depends on YOUR driving style, and what YOU want. (IMHO).
I have a 2.0 and have had zero problems. I like to have a snappy response when I use the gas pedal. When I challenge (or get challenged) at a traffic light, I like to win, and I usually do. But, around town I get 15-16 mpg. Mixed driving is 18-19, and highways in New England gets me around 24 mpg.
If you can afford the mpg., go for the 2.0. If you drive like there's an egg under your foot, and don't care about the power, keep what you have.
Gas mileage on our 1.6 isn't much better

From the information I heard from the rep, Ford is offering to trade people out, offer esp plans or make payments. That's the 3rd party info I got.
I commend them for doing the best that they can in an awful situation. I hope some changes are made to keep this from happening again.
From my understanding Ford hasn't got all the details worked out on the customer satisfaction side yet. They just wanted to get customers out of the cars to be safe. They did put out a supplement to the recall stating customers not in Ford rentals should be swapped out as soon as possible.
I hope. I will gladly take an exact model as what we have with the 2.0.

It's already going on a week and no word of any fix. I remember my last recall was on my '99 Taurus SE that I had for a seat belt problem. Took it in, and dealer said I had to leave it, and it would be few days before parts arrived. Said they would give me a loaner. I'm turning in $22,000 Taurus and Ford gives me Enterprise Dodge Neon that probably cost $13,000. Anyway, it took 2 weeks before I got it back for seat belt part, and I had to drive this Neon to work and back everyday plus only vehicle on weekends. So I'm sure there are lots of unhappy Fusion/Escape customers stuck with Enterprise junk.
It's been a week now with our Hyundai Tucson from enterprise. We hate it more every day
-
Day 6.... 24 days left until PA Lemon Law comes into play.

Different

I don't think we are in a bad spot. Either Ford will get it fixed or is going to have to take care of us.
-
Wow maybe I should call and complain to the ford 800 number, the Tucson they gave us from enterprise isn't bad but it makes us miss the escape a lot. The wife hates it with everything she has.
If we're going to be in this for a while I'm going to be upset
-
Make the decision to purchase a 2.0L or a Titanium. The mpg's aren't all that different and you have the peace of mind of what seems to be a more refined and reliable engine.
If only I could go back a few months. I opted for the 1.6 since it was her mainly driving it and picked it for the extra couple MPG. Maybe they won't find a suitable fix and can offer us a 2.0 in its place.
-
No problem. Obviously you weren't loyal in the first place, so it hasn't changed. Its also the thought process of some issues on one item causing you to believe that every other product from a certain company is bad. Some people generalize and some don't, but I can appreciate your decision.
I wasn't, I'm a GM guy...
His & Hers
She was loyal but she hates this Hyundai rental so much that its tainting her, right or wrong.

I wanted to look at the competition before buying our 2013 escape but the fiancée has had 3 prior to this and liked the new one once we drove it. She agrees with me now, we will be looking elsewhere when the times comes again.

Got this update from the sales conference call today:
1. Still don't know what's causing the overheating in the engine.
2. Recalls in general have not yet affected sales of the Escape. Retail Escape sales were up 7% YoY over 2011 which was a monster Escape month.
3. Customer response has been positive and appreciative of pro-active recall.
With regard to #3, that sounds like spin to me although at least you can probably safely say that the problem has not yet destroyed customer interest in the Escape especially since there are other engines to be purchased. Ken Czubay further said that Ford doesn't expect this problem to have a major impact on Escape sales going forward.
Honestly, I would never buy a vehicle with the 1.6L Ecoboost unless Ford offered a free warranty extension of say 3 years. With this many problems in the beginning, the long term reliability image is IMO tarnished.
We were positive on Saturday when we gave the escape to the dealer and got put in another mid size crossover. We are not positive anymore after driving this Hyundai Tucson for the weekend, we are not positive after sending in the check for the car payment on the Escape and having a car worth $13,000 less in the garage.
This sucks.
-
Upgraded and reported successful install ok.
But then we had to take our car to the dealer for an unknown length of time and drive a Hyundai instead
-
We are currently displaced of our 1.6L escape. We got put in a 2012 Hyundai Tucson. While not a bad vehicle it's certainly not as nice as our escape, the wife absolutely despises it. While we make payments on a $32,000 vehicle we are stuck in a $22,000 hyundai. The guy at enterprise told us pets weren't allowed in their vehicle, I said ford took our only vehicle that can carry our dog to the vet away from us, the dog will be going in their vehicle if she needs to. They can work that out with ford if its not to their liking.
Honestly if they want to buy back the 1.6's and give us a 2.0 that would be great, should have ordered a 2.0 like I wanted to but figured the wife drives it 90% of the time we will go for the extra MPG (which sucks anyway)
-
Really wish we would have opted for the 2.0L
Perhaps they won't be able to fix the 1.6 and 2.0 replacements will be offered
-
Hopefully the 2014 won't catch on fire...
-
Enterprise put us in a 2012 Hyundai Tuscon. Not a bad compromise.
First Oil Change - general concensus

We bought our escape from the same dealer that I bought my Corvette from a few weeks prior, it happened to be a ford dealer in Michigan that does a high volume of used Corvette and sports car sales. Wasn't going back 5 hours for a free oil change :D
