    Actually, no. That's FORDS recommendations and we all also know that the Govt does not do the testing its actually the car manufacturers who do the testing and submit the results to the govt. They spot check them when requested. Ask Hyundai how that worked for them when they got caught cheating.

  2. So driving habits and other conditions should not matter? I thought the same about my running shoes, as I finish marathons two hours slower than others that wear the same shoes, same brand and model!!! However I am thinking of suing Nike (and Tiger Woods, for good measure) as the shoes are defective and they advertised their product with a guy that runs under 2:30 marathons and I can't do that. I should be able to see 2:30 period no matter what the running or training conditions are. Darn crooks, just did that to get me to buy their stuff and falsely claimed that the shoes are capable of under 2:30 -- hogwash!

     

    But as for the car, yeah I do OK when using the proper behavior that is conducive to getting the best MPG that I can, here is yesterday's trip home, which moved the lifetime average up a notch to 47.6..

    That's one trip. It's easy to do on Battery..... But now run that same mileage on all highway speeds 65-75 not using any battery.. Becha you wont see anything near that! I'll put 1000 on it. Going any slower on the expressway is impractical. Here in Chicago that will get you into a wreck on the Dan Ryan, quicker than you know it. Also EPA testing should reflect those conditions. Hard to do an apples to apples test when the testing is flawed and its easy to cheat.

  3. Ford never says that. Ford is not allowed by law to say that. All Ford can do is what the law requires. Ford is required by law to publish the EPA test results whether they are realistic or not. You should go read some of the threads about this over at the FFH forum. There has been a lot of discussion over there about the EPA tests and how Ford programmed the FFH. And the discussion over there has been intelligent and civilized so please don't ruin it with valueless comments

     

    The ICE will use ZERO gas when going downhill above 62 MPH. Even though it doesn't shut off it has the ability to use zero gas if possible. Charlee is right.

     

    The EPA test is like standardized tests in school. They're designed to create a benchmark for comparison. Just as we all know that scores on the SAT or ACT do NOT tell us the true intelligence of a person, the EPA tests do not tell us what YOUR mileage will be. The EPA tests just give us a point of reference for comparison. Just like the SAT and ACT are designed to allow universities and other institutions to compare potential students qualifications to attend the school. Just because someone scores high on the ACT doesn't guarantee they'll graduate college, or even that they'll get good grades in college. Likewise a high EPA test cycle number doesn't mean that this car will do that well for you in real life.

     

    There are plenty of ppl getting high MPG numbers. Our 41.9 current Lifetime average is very good in my opinion for the terribly long and unusually cold winter we've had in MN. I know that in city driving it is easy to get upwards of 50-60 MPG in this car. On the highway it is possible to get 40-45 MPG at 65 MPH depending on the conditions (wind speed, temp, flat ground, etc). When we compared the FFH and TCH before buying our principal comparison was fuel economy. The TCH is rated lower, 41/39 city/highway, but we found that the TCH performed better than the FFH on the highway driving we did. The TCH got 48 MPG in our 55-60 MPH highway testing. But the Camry did much worse in the city, registering only 43 MPG in the city for an overall of 45 MPG. The FFH did 48 MPG in the city and 44 MPG on the highway for an overall 46 MPG in our testing. Thus we did not factor gas mileage into our decision of FFH vs TCH, assuming that the real world gas mileage of both cars would be equal.

     

    That's why it is so important to make an educated decision about buying a car when you're highly focused on gas mileage. Test drive the car on the route you normally drive. Drive it from your house to your work and then back home and see what the gas mileage is. Only after doing that can you make an informed decision. You cannot assume that the EPA test cycle perfectly mirrors your driving patterns.

     

    And if you failed to do these things, then shut up and suffer the consequences of your actions. And hopefully you'll learn to make smarted decisions in the future.

     

     

    I did not fail to do those things. Kind of hard to test drive a car that isn't on the market.... Also, EPA testing is not realistic, everyone knows that. Fords problem is that thier Hybrid design is specifically optimized to the EPA test as opposed to real world driving.

    The main reason for the difference is the 62mph top speed under battery power for the Fords. almost all the driving on the EPA test is below 60mph, which allows for maximum usage of the battery.

     

    Toyota's hybrids usually get close to the EPA ratings. One of the reasons is that the top battery speed is around 40mph (depends on model). This means that the cars have to switch to gas power more often during the EPA test.

     

    The C-MAX/Fusion are optimized for the EPA test.

    The Camry/Prius/Prius v seem to be optimized for real-world driving while staying within the confines of the EPA test.

     

    The biggest difference is that the Toyota hybrids have a lower electric top speed which means that their highway numbers are going to be more realistic as the gasoline engine is running.

     

    To me it seems Ford is cheating allot. While it technically may not be wrong, but if you could cheat on an ACT by programming the car to ace the ACT, versus real world then that is wrong as the ACT or in this case, EPA testing, your setting your self up for failure and your customers as what you see on the testing is going not going to match real world results thus creating a flawed system as the comparison is flawed. There needs to be a test of real world speeds, as its obvious that ford does not stand up to the competition at real world speeds.

     

  4. The 47/47/47 came from the EPA Government tests, as others have mentioned, Ford did not come up with those number. Also if you read your window sticker you will see. 'Actual results will vary for many reasons, including driving conditions and how you drive and maintain your vehicle.'

     

    A lot of information in the forums about real time Hybrid mileage not getting the 47. You should have been well aware of that before you purchased your vehicle. From what I understand the hybrid is not considered broken in until 5000 miles.

     

    Manual says 1000. You would think that the EPA testing would account for different situations. What good is a test if it doesn't reflect real world conditions?

  5. If I'm going down a hill at 63+ mph, I don't want my FFH in EV mode. I want the battery to be charging during this time.

     

    Actually you do.. Because the car will coast in EV mode using no gas, and charge the battery at the same time. If your coasting down hill you want the gas engine to be off. No need to waist the gas to go down hill. You want the car coasting.

  6. Ford didn't think 47 MPG highway was possible, the EPA says it's possible. Ford is required by law to publish the results of the EPA cycles. Blame the governement

     

    The problem is that your commute is not hybrid friendly. With that much highway driving at high speeds a diesel would net higher fuel economy

     

     

    Ford says the MPG should be 47 City/47 Highway / 47 Combined. It shouldn't matter if my commute is Hybrid Friendly or not. I should be seeing 47 mpg period no matter what the driving conditions are. Yea I could see if I was getting 43 @ 70 mph, but I'm no where near that! Also, I took a peak at the life time statistics, and according to my computer my real MPG for the car is 33 mpg.   7. This is about the same as my daily trip.

     

    1) I wonder how much of each of roads you have during your drive (slow speeds with traffic lights, medium speed limits that meander through the country, or interstate)?

    2) Of the interstate travel from above, what is your normal speed?

    3) What have your temps been in the mornings, cold so that you run the heat right away?

    4) What is your typical brake score on your trips? I've found that being smooth goes a long way to getting good MPG, as my trips normally have brake scores of 98% or 99% and I think lifetime is 98%.

     

    There are also several threads on this in the hybrid forum, you might want to read up on things there too.

    1. 95 percent Highway 5 percent city.

    2. 65-75 Mph

    3. 40's to 60's. It is Chicago.

    4. Typical BS is 95-100. I try to achieve a 100 when possible.

  8. How many miles do you have on yours? I'm at 480 miles and I see 35-40 on the instant MPG on mile once the engine is warmer up and battery charged. I have to be cruising at ~70MPH to see it and as soon as I touch the gas pedal, it goes back down to 20 mpg. But it will sustain the high speed and get close to 4o mpg.

    I'm at 1230 as of this morning. I drive atleast 130 miles a day. 65 miles (one way) to work.

  9. So I'm now past the "break in point" for the car and have started tracking fuel efficiency. I am getting NO WHERE near the 47 that ford is touting. I'm seeing more like 37 real world, ish. One thing that is surprising is while I am driving highway speeds, while maintaining speed, the car says it is accelerating and the MPG is often near 20. It doesn't go up to 40 until I am coasting. Any acceleration brings it down to 20 unless I am in EV mode then obviously it's 60 plus because I'm on battery. I dont have to be driving highway speed, any acceleration not on ev mode is at 20 or below. I am not impressed. I would like to see acceleration happen more quickly with EV mode. Accelerating in ev mode is not practical and often you have to kick some gas on when starting from a red light. I also would like to see EV mode be engaged over 63+ miles. They should have programmed it to stay on till you reach 80. Most highway speeds are between 65-75. I think gas mileage would be better if the car was able to maintain at least 75 with the battery. It could deplete the battery and recharge when needed especially on long road trips. Over all the car is great. I wish the mood lighting was brighter. Love the car, just wish ford could get the fuel mileage straight.

    So far so good. Gas mileage seems to be about half of what it is suppose to be. The dealership never called me to say it was in. I called ford's 1800 number to find out that the car was delivered. Went in this morning and said a little birdy told me.... and then they confirmed that it was in. We did up all of the paperwork and signed the contract and and that was that. Drove the car off the lot and went to work! One thing that I noticed right away was that the HD radio is sensitive and not as good as the integrated HD radio addon that I had in my 08 fusion and the steering wheel is smaller than my 08.

  11. Here's some perspective for the Captain... the delivery of a custom ordered Fusion is taking about a minimum of 8 weeks, up to 6 months. At only 6 weeks from order, you should set a more appropriate expectation and be thankful to receive it on the shorter side. I'm sure all manufacturers do not meet ALL their ESTIMATES (I had the same issue with Toyota several years ago).

     

    CaptainKirk, realize that there are may people who have been waiting significantly longer than you. Consider having some sympathy for them. It's like a guy sitting at a dinner table complaining that his dessert has not arrived yet while others haven't even had their meal prepared. Those others are probably not going to be on his side. I've been waiting for a little over 8 weeks and it is expected next week. I feel pretty fortunate to possibly get it so much sooner than others.

     

    By the way, generally the cars on the lot are for sale and available much sooner for those that struggle to wait.

    I really don't care! Who's the one crying now. If you have to wait as long as 6 months blame ford for that and complain to them. Make them change their policy's. If your jealous that I'm getting my car before you and I ordered after you, you should talk to your dealer about it and deal with it!

     

    In the meantime, I will continue to shop my options!

    The expectation was set when the delivery date was set for the 9th! Worse case! I was told that once that was set in reality it would be delivered much sooner! That accompanied by the fact it arrived a full week before the delivery at the rail yard supported the fact! Others who have ordered and shipped at the same time has had their cars for a week all ready! I have every right to know what's going on with my order at all times! If some on this board don't like that, then go bark up another tree!

  14. Other manufactures don't seem to have a problem with expectations and tracking. If you can't handle the very customers who keep you in business then why are you even in business! Experiences like mine only drive customers away! If I order something I expect to know where it is at all times given the amount of cash involved. Some on here just don't get what great customer service is! I expect to be treated like a rockstar and nothing less! Some on here just settle for meteocracy and that is wrong. Word of Mouth can tank a company really quick, just as it can prop up a company!

  15. Sorry but I lose patience with customers that are frustrated by delays and then threaten to buy a competing brand whether it be a Toyota or BMW. You ordered the all-new 2013 Fusion for a reason and I can't take responsibility for the delays in fulfilling your order but Ford will not ship a vehicle unless it meets their quality standards. The last thing that Ford wants is to ship a vehicle to one of its dealers and have it delivered to a customer subject to a recall resulting in negative press coverage. If you're so close to cancelling your order and buying a Toyota or BMW, go ahead. You're not the first customer to be disappointed with repeated delays due to quality or shipping concerns so either deal with it as so many others have or say goodbye. So stop whining about it and either wait for your vehicle and then appreciate why Ford's quality standard is what it is or go elsewhere!

    Quality concerns has nothing to do with the delay that I am experiencing. It's a shipping delay because the lot in Chicago heights looses track of cars as they come in. Your post is the exact attitude of why many pass on a ford! Yes I ordered for a reason and I'f ford can't meet those expectations then bonvoyage! Don't come to the public asking for a bailout when your in the toilet!
  16. Still no car!!!!!!!! My eta has been pushed back for the 3rd time! Original eta was the 9th, then the 10th now the 12th. The car has been sitting for 9 days now at the rail head. If this continues I may take up on an Avalon that was offered by another dealership. Still looking at BMWs as well. The wait from railhead to delivery is redicoulous and no one seems to be able to help. I'm about to start to hound Union Pacific.

    Thanks, I think the dealer is just as frustrated as I am. We both agree that once the car was handed off to the UP, not having control of the car or having the ability to call someone to get info is frustrating There has to be a better process of doing this. You should be able to track your car like a fedex or ups package.

  18. Mine took about a week. The holdup was not the actual train shipment but the fact its been sitting on the lot after unloading from the train waiting for movement for over a week now. I did just get off the phone with my dealership. We are moving forward and progress was made! Continuing to move forward with the deal so far, but I am at the point where I can walkaway at anytime. If everything goes right the car should show up any time.
