The problem with voteing is it becomes a popularity contest. Working on the line is hard on your body, thats why you need the high seniorty guys off the line so we all don't retire as cripples. Seniority gives everyone a chance to eventually get a good job. If your leader is bad, washrooms and 1st aids ect. can help. The Foreman will not side with a leader who has alot of down time in work group for long.

In oakville we bid on leader, and seniority rules. A unionized shop should go by seniority. If you vote you get some but kisser with 5 years seniority while some guy with 20 years is stuck on the line. The company should never choose leaders because they will choose a suck hole.
