I invite you to come on down and demonstrate the system on a regular basis, the very fact it takes so long underlines my statement....I almost feel people start nodding off.....and sure enough even the second visit isnt enough...you have to understand Nick, a majority of people arent as tech savy as you ( I will include myself in that gender ) and seriousl ARENT interested in 90 % of the features, its mental overload to most, which makes me question why half of the features are even there to begin with.....I would suggest a bare basics system with reflash "upgrades" to those that deem certain features, considered gimmicks by most, necessary....and I will EMPHATICALLY say, the voice recognition is sub-par, the biggest complaint I get is the voice/ Nav system....then again, lot of Hispanic/ exotic street names here in So Cal....

     

    Solution? As with many user systems, select "basic, competent, expert" or some such. We do it on the Hybrid driver screen.

  2. How much simpler can you make it? Almost every function you use on a regular basis is still on the main screen or directly on the main subsystem screen one layer below it.The one thing that I'm almost certain will change in future designs though is the return of some physical switches/knobs to the console below the touch screen. The capacitive buttons (particularly their small size) are my biggest gripe with MFT in my Edge. They are difficult to locate at a glance and press the right number of times. The touchscreen portion works pretty much exactly as I expected it to. However, I think going back and forth between capacitive and resistive interfaces causes a lot of the frustration in terms of response to input. It's not that they don't work (for most owners anyway), it's that they work differently right next to one another.[/

     

     

    The iPod world is getting used to "touch, roll, finger-manipulate" of capacitive screens. Would it be easier if the system used only glass capacitive touch screens (at least that negates some of the trigger press problems of the plastic resistive touch display)? Always some problems pop up-- press with gloves, etc. No perfect world yet!

MFT just needs refinement, and SIMPLIFICATION....seems the designers got carried away with gimmicks, macros and subscreens, the Clarion system in comparison was simpler and thus veiwed as more "user friendly"......sometimes I think the publics thirst for "gadgets" is counter intuitive...an opinion mimicked by CR's criticism...CR has a somewhat flawed propensity to applaud simplicity while ignoring what CONSUMERS are demanding....

     

    Absolutely agree: Software, Software, Software! My only problem with CR (and others), is when they equate the rating of the entire vehicle based on MFT.

    Just don't get your hopes up too quick about MFT, you will be wishing you had the old Clarion system back, I sure did. They are sill using that system in the Mustang (soon to go to MFT unfortunately).

    I have the Clarion system in my wife's Edge and MFT in my daughter's Focus and my Fusion. I'll take MFT every day of the week.

     

     

    Well, after the 'Stang loses the Clarion, there will be no choice. As I said earlier, I am totally comfortable with the transition to MFT, use almost all features. Still will wait on judgement re: reliability, upgradability, etc. Still miss DVD burns!

  5. The 2010 Fusion had the Clarion based system, before Ford came out with MFT. I agree the older system I had zero problems with also.

    Agree, the Clarion supplied system was smooth, with top-rated NAV. I do miss the ability to burn MP3 DVD's, but will reserve judgement on the MFT. I think the new MFT may have more potential to be modified by software, so (hopefully) bugs may be worked out. Considering all the neg press Ford is getting, it is in their interest to make it happen.

  6. CR will never rate a a Ford with MFT as OK. I think it is just too geeky for a family car. I have personally loved MFT in my 2010 Fusion Hybrid, with no problems until the week I traded for a 2013 Fusion Hybrid ( it got even by frying an MP3 memory stick)! I use all functions on my 2013 Fusion Hybrid MFT: no problems, but too soon to judge long-term. I am old, but a nerdy geek, so MFT seems natural to me.

    Fusion recorded massive sales increases in California (69%), Fusions averaged 14 days on lots and hybrids eight days. In Florida, Fusions averaged 16 days on lots and hybrids nine days, Titaniums were averaging 13 days on dealer lots...

     

    They are moving fast: As you go through all the local dealer stock online (S. Fla Ford sites), almost all hybrids are "dealer ordered". Good perks for hybrids down here-- free beach parking, HOV lanes, etc.

    YEAH...BUT YOU WOULD STILL THINK THE DEALER WAS STICKING IT TO YOU SOMEWHERE.....LOL.........

     

    Of course they're sticking it to you: They get a tax break for giving it to me (advertising, charity, whatever), and I have to pay taxes on value as a gift (throwing me into a higher tax bracket). I end up covering both sets of taxes in the end. Keep the damn cars!

  10. Ford is now showing buyers that a Titanium Focus is actually better value than a loaded SE.

    This is deliberate and intended to steer buyers towards more profitable high series models..

     

     

    It's the game of business. If the plan works, then it is a smart business move. It is up to the consumer to make the decision of value. We do it all the time in all parts of our lives. Right now I'm sitting in Starbucks, shooting the bull with the daily morning (old-guy) group-- drinking plain old java that is overpriced-- still worth it to ME!

     

  11. I once heard someone say they would never pay MSRP for a vehicle - regardless of the actual price. I said so you wouldn't pay $30K for a car with a MSRP of $30K but if the mfr raised the MSRP to $33K and gave you a $3K rebate you'd be all over it? Blank stare.

     

    Same people that only buy based on monthly payments.

     

     

    ssssh, beleive it or not, all the convoluted programs are that way on purpose, to confuse the customer....true story....

     

    Ha! All part of the producer/consumer game we call commerce. The goal is to create a sense of value for the product, and hopefully leave the consumer satisfied with the “deal”. Lot’s of room for silliness in the process! I have really enjoyed being able to “build” my Fusion online, adding what I want, knowing the price, and working with the dealer (who I do trust) to a conclusion. If the value (a personal consideration) is there, then the price is right.
