  1. I have a 2012 Fusion hybrid that is displaying an intermittent problem. Twice, while in EV mode a loud dinging occurred and a 'pull over safely' message displayed. The first time the dealer pulled an EEC test code and replaced a canister. I thought everything was fine, but it happened again and this time there was no code. The Ford customer service rep insists there is 'no concern'. That seems to be code for 'we have no idea what is wrong so please go away quietly.' He said that since I can't recreate it at will, I can't prove it will happen again. Since I really don't enjoy having my car die randomly while I am driving down the road, I am looking for help figuring out how to recreate this at will. Hopefully I can also get it to throw a code. Here's what I can tell you about what happened. car sits in an unheated garage, Sometimes it sits for several days between drives. I live in Northern Illinois and it has been extremely cold. I use remote start to let it warm up before leaving in the morning. Both times I was between 1 and 1/2 and 2 miles from home before it dropped into EV mode the fIrst time. Both times it died shortly after it dropped into EV mode. Both times I was able to stop and restart it. I then drove it to the dealer. Other maybe relevant information (or maybe not. I'm not sure) I noticed that sometimes the car is unusually reluctant to drop into electric mode. Yes, I do understand that temperature affects this. I've had the car for 18 months and was averaging 50 mph before this started. Normally it will drop into electric mode after about one and a half miles even in winter. now, sometimes it takes 5 miles and even then it has no power and goes right back into gas mode if I deliberately keep it in gas mode for the first 20 minutes, it will then act normally. I work in development at a software company. Despite what Ford customer service thinks, just because it didn't throw a code doesn't mean a problem doesn't exist. It just means that a fatal exception occurred that wasn't trapped by the software and given a 'user friendly' code to display. Normally I would be perfectly happy to sit at a computer and figure out how to recreate a fatal error. It's actually kind of fun, especially after being told 'It doesn't do it on my box'. I do it all the time at work, but I am at a handicap here. I don't know what types of error conditions would cause fatal errors and I have to go out on the highway with a car to try to recreate it. One other thing. The dealer is willing to attach a VDR but he said he would need some idea of what type of information to set it it to track. Any help, suggestion, information would be greatly appreciated.
  2. I have a 2012 fusion hybrid that randomly dies while driving it down the road. Just got a call from the Ford rep telling me that there is 'no concern' with vehicle and I HAVE to pick it up. He kindly advised me to call roadside assistance the next time it dies on me. I told him that there is a concern --- it dies on me while driving down the road. Not being able to figure out the cause is not the same as there not being a concern. Apparently Ford's warranty only covers easy to diagnose defects. I would NOT recommend buying a lemon law buyback car. Who knows what is wrong with it.
