OK, new question. Does it matter if the engine is 05-08 as long as it is Vin 5 3v? Been shopping on car-part.com and 08 is about the least common year. They don't give and option for anything other than Vin 5 5.4l in 08 (make me question the Vin l)

So far I haven't heard of any tuners that know much about the difference in those engines. Anyone know an experienced tuner?

Bump, any ideas on a 5.4 friendly custom tuner? Just want someone I Bounce ideas off of possibly.

Its out an 08 F350. I know it will obviously not have variable timing, the shop says they just leave the can phazer harness unplugged (there is no plug available for them because the engine isn't equipped for it). Is the only issue after its bolted in tuning maps? Couldn't a custom SCT tune make everything work right?

I have a shop telling my it a direct swap other than the cam phazer plug not plugging in. Said they've done it before.

My dads 08 F250 5.4l kicked the bucket at 180k miles and started sounding bad by 130k. Now I get to find him a replacement engine fairly cheap since it is just his feed truck these days. I found a Vin L(non variable timing) from an f350 but his truck is a Vin 5(variable timing equipped). How hard is it to convert a 5 to an L and what issues might I have? Thanks
