  1. The only issue I have seen with the Camera Speed limit info is that it picks up signs that may not be realted. Example A Trucks 60MPH where the speedlimit is 70 or 75 for single passenger vehicles it will update to the 60mph, it will do the same thing in school zones even if that limit isn't in effect as its outside the time window.

Interesting. So some ford cars do have the road sign reading feature. If you dont mind can you tell us which car and which country ?

  2. In the old days, we used to be aware of our surroundings. We would check our own blindspots and speedometer.

And we should continue to do so until the DMV drivers handbook states it as optional.

But given the current state of technology and the price of Ford cars with all options, there is no reason why the car shouldnt be able to do most of that stuff.

  3. Though a cellphone can be used to achieve the end goal, here is the wish anyways.

Say you buy/create new music on your computer but listen to it in car.

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to drag and drop the music files onto your car sitting in your driveway but connected to your same WiFi network ?

No more carrying that USB stick to and fro.

A smartphone can solve the problem but will need charging and cause data plan + network coverage worries if music is on the cloud.

  4. A display that shows my current speed in green if under the posted speed limit for the road or in red if over.

Maybe the LEDs that light the speedometer can be used for this purpose. Swap them for dual color LEDs, some glue logic and you are done.

The car already knows my current speed and the posted speed limit from the maps database, so all bits and pieces exist already.

  5. What I meant was once you're in manual mode with the fan set on a specific speed, closing the other vents will result in more air to the driver's side therefore more noise.

Yeah but you can use the fan control to slow the fan down and it will stay slow :-)

  6. This comes up a lot - why don't you like the auto climate control?

I didnt say I dont like it. As a SW engineer I think its well positioned between perfection as usability. Technically, it can be made better by lets say allowing configuration of how fast the user wants the car to cool down, but it will be a documentation nightmare and no one will ever understand it still. So it is good in its current state.

I leave it on auto and just adjust the temp up and down as needed. I hit Max A/C if it's really hot until it cools down, then go back to 68 to 72 after it cools down a bit. If the air is blowing too hard I just raise the temp a little, then lower it later.

Thats almost what I do too. Except, when it is really hot, I roll down the windows first to bring the car temp down as much as possible without putting load on freshly started engine. The I simply hit the auto button with temp set to 72ish.

Occasionally I have go all manual control when it becomes impossible to hear the radio, phone or other person.

  7. Actually closing the other vents will make it louder and increase the air coming from the open vents. But you will get more air.

I just think you can get all the air you need from the driver's vents while still cooling the entire car. And you're not saving any energy.

Thats true only if the auto climate is on. When you take manual control, you set the temp and force of air blowing at you. With auto climate off, there is nothing trying to cool the entire car.

  8. How would it save energy?

Cooling just one person ought to take less energy than cooling 5/7 people.

That, of course, opens up the bigger question on where the temp sensors should be placed. I guess they are currently placed to measure the average temp of whole car.

In an ideal world they would measure the temp of human bodies "currently present" in the car.

Oh well, I will just switch the auto climate off (most of the time) till that day comes.

  9. Why would you want to close the vents? You need to cool the entire car not just the driver's side.

Many times you dont need the entire car to cool down, just blow some coolish air on the driver.

In those cases, having all the vents open :

    1. Makes more noise

    2. Consumes more energy

    3. Reduces force of air coming from driver vent

Ofcourse, the auto climate will always try to cool the entire car down but I usually have that off anyways.

  10. The car should automatically lock when the key goes more than say 20 feet away from the car.

Should also lock if left unlocked for more that 10 minutes (or user configurable timeout. 0 seconds to disable feature)

I hope someone tells me this feature already exists.

I always doubt if locked my car or not.

  11. Now that keys dont need to be inserted in the vehicle for use or even taken out of pocket, why not take things a step further.

Can we have wearable keys like rings or watches ?

Or maybe sell it as a really really tiny thing that DIYers can embed in whatever they like.

Or someway to make the cellphone work as the key but without having to take it out of pocket.

Or have fingerprint sensors on the car handle ?

  12. Bring Back Sunset, Gaurd, Too Good to be Blue & Bronze Fire.

And make all colors available on all models.

Even if not as available choices on cars on the lot, at least make them available options for custom orders.

  13. What are possible reasons for which an ETA can become TBD ?

ETA for my car has been moving later and later and then to TBD as of yesterday.

I dont want to be a pest bothering the good folks at Ford on Twitter and Facebook.

  14. One curious question :

What kind of journey will my Edge take from Oakville to my dealer in San Jose, California ? Is it a direct train trip or a multi hop journey via car carriers etc. where it will trickle down a tree/chain of distributors/dealers and other middlemen ?

And how long does it take typically ?
