  1. I am starting to doubt Ford would announce early next year that Android Auto / Carplay can not be supported on 2016 Edges. But good news : people who really need it can go buy a 2017 Edge. (For discounts on that purchase, its between you and your nearest Ford dealer)
  2. but what are the changes in the 2017 model compared to 2016 apart from pricing.
  3. Well I didnt mean engine off when key leaves a certain range but the car doors should lock.
  4. I actually like that it does not mute the radio etc. It was very annoying to have the music muted whenever a email/text came to the phone.

    tracking

Hi Pioneer, Could you please track my order. I sent VIN via private message to you. Many thanks !
  6. Interesting. So some ford cars do have the road sign reading feature. If you dont mind can you tell us which car and which country ?
  7. Well thats what feeds me and family :-) No running away from tech for a software engineer. And I have faith in Ford too. They are ahead of all others IMHO.
  8. And we should continue to do so until the DMV drivers handbook states it as optional. But given the current state of technology and the price of Ford cars with all options, there is no reason why the car shouldnt be able to do most of that stuff.
  9. That link seems to list a bunch of lies IMHO. I have never seen those features mentioned even for the 2017 Escape which I believe is the platform with latest features. Maybe they are including Lincoln features also which I dont know a thing about.
  10. Though a cellphone can be used to achieve the end goal, here is the wish anyways. Say you buy/create new music on your computer but listen to it in car. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to drag and drop the music files onto your car sitting in your driveway but connected to your same WiFi network ? No more carrying that USB stick to and fro. A smartphone can solve the problem but will need charging and cause data plan + network coverage worries if music is on the cloud.
  11. A display that shows my current speed in green if under the posted speed limit for the road or in red if over. Maybe the LEDs that light the speedometer can be used for this purpose. Swap them for dual color LEDs, some glue logic and you are done. The car already knows my current speed and the posted speed limit from the maps database, so all bits and pieces exist already.
  12. Yeah but you can use the fan control to slow the fan down and it will stay slow :-)
  13. I didnt say I dont like it. As a SW engineer I think its well positioned between perfection as usability. Technically, it can be made better by lets say allowing configuration of how fast the user wants the car to cool down, but it will be a documentation nightmare and no one will ever understand it still. So it is good in its current state. Thats almost what I do too. Except, when it is really hot, I roll down the windows first to bring the car temp down as much as possible without putting load on freshly started engine. The I simply hit the auto button with temp set to 72ish. Occasionally I have go all manual control when it becomes impossible to hear the radio, phone or other person.
  14. Thats true only if the auto climate is on. When you take manual control, you set the temp and force of air blowing at you. With auto climate off, there is nothing trying to cool the entire car.
  15. Cooling just one person ought to take less energy than cooling 5/7 people. That, of course, opens up the bigger question on where the temp sensors should be placed. I guess they are currently placed to measure the average temp of whole car. In an ideal world they would measure the temp of human bodies "currently present" in the car. Oh well, I will just switch the auto climate off (most of the time) till that day comes.
