How many solid axle desert runners do you see in the same class as the Bronco? Besides the Mojave, that's just a repackage.

You hate the Bronco, don't buy it. Go buy a Discovery. Oh wait that's IFS front and rear!

I never said I hate the Bronco, I will probably love it based on what I have seen so far but IFS is a deal breaker for me.

If Bronco was SFA would have probably  bought one as a daily and kept my 17 F350 but now will just upgrade to a Tremor in a year or so.

You rock crawl F-350s? Because that's the only advantage for a front  stick axle on a Bronco.

Stop bringing up Super Duties, we're talking about the Bronco. Might as well be comparing skid loaders to excavators.

SD’s are a great example... GM builds an IFS HD that no one buys while Ford sells a whole lot of SFA SD’s.

Just look at 1/2 ton sales number which market share percentage wise GM is a whole lot closer to Ford but get’s crushed in HD’s because of IFS.

We are not talking about radically different vehicles... plenty of people buy SD’s as nothing more than daily drivers and prefer the SFA.

The only advantage of a Solid Axle is rock crawling??? ?Perhaps you should do a little more research....

At least around here in the Northeast most people don’t buy a new Jeep to put a lift kit on it to drive it on the rocks.  The lifted jeeps around here are usually older models from the used markets that have been modified.  Furthermore they tend to be a weekend car because no one wants to put up with the noise and ride quality  as a daily driver.  Most people I know who buy wranglers do so for the image but soon tire of the noise and rough ride.  Last I looked Ford makes no money, other than repair parts,  on used car sales.  If you want that rock crawler, buy an old Jeep or Bronco and modify it to your hearts content.  Like the manual transmission  and SRA in cars, the SFA is going away. The industry is responding to what most people want, not what the few enthusiast want.

Someone might want to let Ford know so they can discontinue the SFA in the Super Duty that crushes GM HD’s in sales in large part due to the SFA that supposedly no one wants???

  4. The problem I have with IFS is what advantages does it offer over Solid Axle?? We know SFA offers plenty of advantages, just don’t understand the reasoning behind saddling it with IFS..

And don’t give me on road manners as Ford has gotten the Super Duty to be every bit as good as GM HD’s when it comes to on road driving. No reason they can’t do it with the Bronco they just decided to cheap out.

6 years old this may and my 6.7 has had ZERO issues with anything dpf or emissions related.  If you consider 5 gallons of DEF every oil change a headache, then I guess yes.

When you sell, you get back just about every penny of that diesel option so although it does cost more upfront in regards to a payment, it doesnt cost much more in the long run.  Add to that the fun factor of HP/torque, I wouldn't go gas.

Maintenance is more costly with 6.7  or any modern Diesel. I’ve seen way too many threads of people stuck with 6.7 repair bills in the teens to be comfortable owning a new Diesel out of warranty. Unless your towing the “fun factor” is very minimal for the most part as 6.2 and 6.7 are pretty much dead on 0-60.

If you have the money to burn or tow heavy regularly go with the Diesel, but in the long run it has a much higher chance of costing a whole lot more compared to say a 6.2.

Looking for to getting getting into a 7.3 in next year or two, happy with my 6.2’s but still missing some of the low end torque that I was used to in the old 7.3’s before I (or should I say the EPA??) switched to gas. The nicest part was being able to move up to Lariat’s with all the money I saved over the old XLT Diesels I used to buy.

Their new 6.6 gasoline engine is barely passable in 2500 with just the 3.73 gears, the optics don't look good compared to the 7.3.

Along with the front suspension (how can they still think IFS is acceptable after getting blown out for thirty something years in HD market??), transmission, interior, and just look at it ?.

Yes!  But, GM's position seems to be that the 6.6L/6 speed combination is a base powertrain, like the 6.2L/TorqShift G is in the Super Duty.  I think GM is working on a larger gas V-8 or at least will offer the 10 speed Allison with the 6.6L gas engine in the future.

Have to say that a few design features of the 7.3L gas engine have me scratching my head, but we will see how it works out.

To my knowledge GM has never offered the premium transmission with gassers while Ford has allows you the option at minimum of the big Torqshift with gas. No excuse for then to not atleast have the 10 speed as an option but typical half ass for Gm’s HD’s.

Big reason my 17 is a 350 and not a 250 was to get the real Torqshift (6R140).

You do remember the last bronco was IFS right?  And there are a billion lift kits out there for that.  Just give Ford a chance to show us what they got.

You and all the other old guys complain that Ford doesn't make "Real" SUVs anymore, then you shit on them when they finally do. If you don't like what Ford eventually puts out, then you can tell them that and maybe we'll get that rumored SFA kit, or some more hardcore versions.

Right now all you're doing is promoting a negative public perception and potentially hurting the program before it even has a chance.

TTB may be IFS but is a lot cheaper and easier to lift compared to control arm IFS setups.

35" tires, 2" lift, AND a stock winch? If this is what can do with a F250, I Can't wait to see the hardcore Bronco.

The trail cam system is really impressive as well.

Hopefully the Rubicon/Hardcore Off Road competitor has a solid axle available in the Bronco.

7.3 is going to steal some Diesel sales.

  10. Ford deserves every bit of flack for these piles of crap. We were an all Ford family until my parents bought my sister a new 2012 Focus as a graduation present and the transmission was a pile, now driving Honda’s and Nissan’s.

I will say Mom’s old 2009 Fusion is still a spare at parents house and has been pretty much bulletproof with 100k on it.

Well if the differential is anywhere from 1700 to 2000 over a Power Stroke, these things will be big sellers in 650/750-assuming they are not absolute gas hogs as the old SD 401,477, 534 were.

6.7 is definitely going to take a decent hit in 250/350 at MSRP of $10.5k vs $1700 for 7.3. Funny thing is other that the development costs to be recovered the 7.3 is probably cheaper to build than 6.2. I think I will wait a year, engine doesn’t worry me much but new transmissions worry me first year.

I would like see a regular cab Lariet offered again....or xl or xlt offered with 2 bucket seats w/center console along with 7.3 and a short bed...sports package offered in that config on super duty would be nice...extended cabs are a suck off road...

I would love to see Sport package or LED lights offered with the Supercab, don’t have any use for a Crewcab but get stuck without a bunch of options that I would like with the Supercab.

  13. The 350 has the 10R140 (6.2 and 7.3) standard while 250 has the 6R80 w/6.2 standard. 10R140 only 7.3 or Diesel with 250. So with 250 you are paying for 7.3 and 10R140 upgrade for $2045 while with 350 the 10R140 is already baked into base MSRP so $1705 for 7.3 alone if you will.

They get rid of the stang i will never buy another ford product...they could shut down for all i care....have no issue with lectric stang if it remains true to form.....now this article is just garbage...people trade out of the new cj's just as fast as the 2 door coupes..heeps cj's beat you to death but they are fun and kewl...now the problem is the new cj's are pushing $40k which they are not worth...therefore i will keep my 61 cj heep and the scout...new f350 in driveway soon as i see how the new 20's shake out..

Same here, they ever discontinue the regular ole V8 Mustang GT I will lose my loyalty to Ford. Still such a great performance value.

I do not believe it is a failure and Ford didn't "replace" E-Series, more like augmented it with Transit. E-Series as a van was always limited as other makes began to surpass it in size and ride quality for passenger variants. By going to a "two van" strategy for the full-size market, Ford continues to dominate the van segment. E-Series is best suited for the market she now serves and is a cost effective entry in the CoE market that is serviced by the likes of Hino and Isuzu, but I feel it could do more with "Transit-ized" cab structure and make a T-550 and T-600 to further augment the class 4,5 and 6 market. Transit "as is" cannot be made to handle that heavy of a series due to the limitations of the unit-body construction methods to buil it...but E-Series and her classic C-channel frame and Twin-I-Beam front suspension can dutifully serve the market and when fitted with a beam axle for entry into the upper end of class 5 and into class 6, you've got a winning combo of trucks that Ford is famous for. The previous E-550 was a gem indeed, but didn't stay in production for reasons I can only conclude is that it may have been bumping into F-550 sales.

In class 2 - Transit wins hands down and is worthy successor to E-150 and E-250. But in chassis/cab configurations it is E-350/E-450 all the way....

Meh I still prefer the E vans for reliability over the Transits along with a slew of other things. Would have been nice if they kept one of the Vans (350?) around for those who prefer and don’t feel like spending the money on a cutaway body ( $$$$ versus the old vans). Could have even dropped the 5.0 in.
