I’m probably the only person that had back to back 2020 Aviators that were lemons. Working with Lincoln concierge and the dealership, we were able to get a full refund and walk away (see my posts last year).
Despite the quality issues with the Aviator, I absolutely loved the look, the drive, the comfort (30 way seats),  and all the amenities. It was the perfect 3 row SUV  for our needs - not too big and not too small.

I ended up getting a 2020 MB GLE 350.  Unbeknownst to me, there was a known class action suit involving this model and many other MB models. The suit involved mold/mildew in the AC unit, resulting in a foul smell when the AC is turned on . Of course the dealer didn’t inform me of this. The odor is bad enough that I don’t want the vehicle any more! I seem to have great luck trying to get into a new vehicle!

So now I am at the point wondering if I wait to order a 2022 Aviator, maybe most of the kinks (roof leaks, rear camera, electrical issues in dash, etc will have been worked out 2  years later?

Does anyone have any thoughts or advice about taking the Aviator plunge again?  Are there still a lot of quality issues?  I don’t see too many comments on the 2021 problems.  Also, when will the 2022s be out?

Hopefully, you don't have to drive clients around in it, lol..  Stay away from German products I know they are all the rage and get all the riches fired up when they see one.  You are better off with Lexus if you buy another import, way better quality, German and British stuff is expensive garbage!

  2. I was pretty pissed off a few months ago and got an attorney and started a Lemon Law Case, mine still has a lot of problems, but I am going to miss it.  So far, it has not stranded me anywhere again, and you are right. The design is much nicer than MB.  I just ordered an F150 Full hybrid to replace my 2020 Aviator not cause I have a particular love of pickups but because of the gas mileage believe it or not.  Be warned tho when I was at the dealer ordering my F150, a customer who was sitting with me was getting his 3 weeks old 2021 Explorer ST bought back because of major issues.  I can see why you want another one. Just good luck. I guess it is kind of a gamble at this point if you get a good one or not!

  3. Off topic, but what a shitty place to put a fuse box!!!  Could they have picked a worse spot!!!  That is the worse place for a fuse panel, causes all kinds of issues later down the road with moisture.  Fuck Ford thank god I only rent this garbage I would never buy one of these fine quality automobiles <<< --- lol

So I need some help here...  We just bought a new 2020 Aviator and the welcome lighting is not working.  If I lock the car and put the keys on the other side of the house then approach the car in the garage 10 min later with the key fob, nothing happens.  I toggled the welcome lighting setting from on to off then back on again to see if that helped, but it did not.

Has anyone else experienced this?  Am I missing something for how this should work?

Mine does the exact same thing, the dealer told me to disable the phone as a key.  I have made 5 trips to the dealer because of this issue and many others, and they are all tied to the phone as a key.  Here is the kicker my friend, they have no way to troubleshoot it unless they keep my phone for a day.  Dealership employees will not pair a personal phone to the car and the dealership has none on had to use for this purpose, I have had it with all of these glitches and just went and got an attorney.

    Hi all,

2021 aviator gt. Gotta say fit and finish is not worthy of an 80 k vehicle.

Anyway,  does anyone hear a vibration rattle when idling with transmission in drive from the engine. It's audible from inside with radio off only. It's probably audible from outside to which is embarrassing. It is not a heater fan as it is present when climate control is off too. Goes away off idle. It is not very loud, just annoying.  I am thinking it may be the poorly constructed and worthless excessive engine cover shroud on the engine.  The grommets that hold that cover on are junk and I can make all sorts of noises by pressing up and down on various parts of the cover. I just came in from garage and put a bunch of foam type pieces under a bunch of areas and will let you know if rattle goes away. Just wondering if others hear. It's a something vibrating from the engine movement at idle.

    Thanks.

I have a 2020 early production Aviator Reserve II, it's a vehicle characteristic, the back of mine rattles like I have kidnapped tied-up hooker back there.

Yes, electrification is getting higher and higher on Ford's priority list but they aren't neglecting these giant profit machines. We don't know much for sure about the refresh but it has been reported the screen is getting bigger and going to be similar to Escalade. A more potent version of the Powerboost is almost guaranteed. That alone would make me hold out for the 2022.

Honestly in my opinion the current navigator even though it is several model years old still has a better interior than the escalade by a lot.  If you look at Cadillacs they have a lot borrowed from other lines GM has and I like to say you are basically paying for the dash forward on a caddy the rest is still a chevy.  I personally would still choose a Navigator over the Escalade because even though the night vision and gee wiz bells and whistles of Escalade are the cats meow, it comes down to what you are sitting on and what you are touching when you are in a car of this caliber.  Like a late relative who sold Tahoes like they were going out of style back in the 90's use to say, "Escalade starts out as a Chevy, It is a chevy, then BAM they hit it with a hammer".  There is so much truth to that statement I have even experienced it in real life, before covid 19 wiped out the airlines I was a part-time liveries driver at the airport and I drove a Suburban or Navigator. Several times someone asked if the suburban was an escalade but everyone always could tell they were in a Navigator, so there ya go!

It sucks that Aviator is still having these problems, but the dealer may not be lying.  If they test it and the problem doesn't occur then they can't be sure what to fix.   Are you able to demonstrate the problem for them?  Have you tried leaving it with them for a few days?    Give the concierge a try.   If none of that works by all means check into lemon law.

This is where I believe Lincoln should have a buyback policy.   If you're not happy in the first 6 months or have unsolved problems within the first year, they should buy it back no questions asked with a discount on a new Lincoln.  That would go so far with customer satisfaction and it wouldn't cost a lot because the vehicle could be repaired if necessary and resold.

Yep, I am not a happy camper and I have purchased several Lincolns, they will never do that once you sign a contract it is binding, and cars that are bought back or lemon lawed are immediately destroyed as a result.  But it has taken three visits and 1 year has gone by before they will even start replacing anything to resolve these issues.  This last time I pulled into the service department and my touchscreen were completely black no radio controls or climate, I am currently working with an attorney and will probably be rid of this piece of shit by fall.  I just want it gone, no faith that service is going to resolve these issues, Ford has no business charging me 75 grand for an SUV and have it loaded with annoyances and problems, I can see one or two minor issues but not where I am taking it to the dealer multiple times for the same issues.  Come on they need to wake up, and I after I read on here a guy lemoned lawed 2 aviators a 2020 and 2021 I don't even want another one, I originally just wanted it swapped out for a new one now, FORGET THAT SHIT!

Can someone tell me where to find the 2021 aviator grand.

touring.  Talking to dealer today and he advised that he may not be able get me the aviator grand touring.  But in the meantime I want to build the aviator grand touring hybrid

    Thanks in advance

DONT DO IT!!!!! You will regret it, don't get it because it is garbage..  That battery only lasts 20 miles in electric mode, not even worth putting a speed charger on your house.  Plus, the quality of these vehicles is piss poor at best. They still cannot make the aviators and explorers right.  Trust me; we are not making these nasty posts up, but hey, if you really gotta have it, do the needful.

I have read that it could come out as early as summer 2021. Is that realistic?

I was about to buy the Escalade but did a Google search to see when the Navigator Would be updated. I love the outside of the current Navigator. The insider however is dated and lacks a lot compared to today. The Escalade screen is awesome and some great technology. But my first response to it was "that's it?". I don't like how Escalade made the 2nd row the redheaded step child. I wan the second row to be luxury for my guest. Needs a nice center console. Needs easy controls for making their own selves comfortable. I have read where people expect little change to the outside but a stepped up more modern interior. So I am trying to wait! Would love to see some pictures of the inside spying. It's hard to not buy a new one. Hoping for some teasing to keep me motivated to wait for the new Navigator!

The other SUV with a hell of an interior is the new Grand Wagoner. Hoping Lincoln will beat it and the Escalade.

I agree the dash on the new Escalade is awesome but the rest of it is just so/so..  That Grand Wagoneer would be the one to hold out for that has all kinds of cool stuff, but my prediction is they are just going to refresh the interior on the 2022 Nav and the only new tech it will have is a bigger touch screen radio/nav/climate controls.  Similar to what they did with the 2021 Nautilus, Ford is strapped for cash right now and the availability of supplies and suppliers is not the greatest as well.  Plus don't forget the Big Gas burners are not eco-friendly so they are going to be low on Ford's priority list and they are already trailing other manufacturers in electrification so don't expect much money to get spent on Navigator/Expedition lines in the near future.

Hi BA. What you state makes no sense. How would a Dealership tell you "there is nothing wrong with the car" if the door handle does not work? It is an easy problem to demonstrate.

    Conversation goes something like this:

You- "My door handle is not working."

Service Department staff- "Oh, okay, can you show me?"

You- "Yes, watch" (you push handle and door does not open).

Service Department staff- "Oh, okay. We will take care of that."

Your post is painfully short on details. Did you bring your vehicle in for service? Was it repaired? What did the invoice state? Did the problem reoccur? Did you need to bring your vehicle back again?  Provide some details to back up your "That's a "bunch of Sh---T" claims

What is your point and why quote my accurate reply? "It is not a common occurrence, but things do happen."  Not sure what your "That's a bunch of Sh---T" issue is.

Your door handle mechanism became inoperative and needed to be repaired. Make a service appointment for your 2020 and have it repaired under warranty.

Or..if you don't want to take it to the Dealer to have it repaired under warranty, then fix it yourself or learn to live with it.

    Good luck.

I take my Aviator to the service department every month now for something, they have been able to fix the door..  But still cannot fix the false alarms and the half dozen other software glitches I have to live with, my last three fords I never took to the service department for anything other than an oil change, this car has had the same issues now for over a year.  What pisses me off is they say there is nothing wrong with it when I pick up, really getting pissed off because I have never lemon lawed a car in my life and not in a habit of making things up.

Hi Cbaviator. It is not a common occurrence, but things do happen. Sorry it had to happen to you.

Of course your Dealer will be able to diagnose and correct the problem.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

That's a bunch of Sh---T , My 2020's driver-side door stopped working on me and I would have to roll down the window and open the door from the outside door handle.  In fact, I would have to press the button and push the door open at the same time or I would get trapped in the car.  But I guess I just keep taking it back to the dealership so they can say there is nothing wrong with the car!

My 2020 that was repurchased by Ford, didn't have the problem either but it seems to be common on the 2021. Replacing the camera didn't fix it.

They need to purchase my 2020 back, but they will not be that nice to me and make me get an attorney.  My 2020 is doing this thing where it turns on the welcome lights and raises and lowers, and I am nowhere near the vehicle with the key.  If I don't start my Aviator every day, it will welcome till it kills the battery and I have to jump the vehicle.  Good thing I don't leave it parked at the airport and come back to it for several days or weeks.  As far as your theory, the flickering backup cam is common to 2021 models is inaccurate. My 2020 does the same thing.  There is nothing that can be done had it back to the dealer two times for that issue.

My 2020 Aviator Reserve II is doing that, it was doing that when I dropped it off at the dealer.  It was even more amusing watching the looks on their face when my touch screen went completely black and we couldn't turn the radio off.

Well when I ordered my 2020 Aviator running boards wasn’t available. It has been a struggle for both of us (wife & I) to enter and exit our Reserve II trimmed ride. I did order it with the Air Glide Suspension with Dynamic Lower Entry option but that feature is limited to functioning

from start up only. For instance if you were running a errand and you needed to get out for a quick moment then jump back in without shutting the vehicle off the height of the SUV wold stay up. At this point I would struggle t re-enter the vehicle as the driver or if my passenger entered after I started the vehicle which often is the case when my wife rides with me the vehicle would be in the high position - it made quick stops difficult on the egress/engress for short legged folks like we are.

Finally as of early March the OEM running boards became available so I ordered them. What a difference in getting and getting out of the vehicle - I’m so glad I made the investment to add these. They been on my Aviator for three days at this write and it is so much easier to get in (and out)of the vehicle! Plus they enhance the look of the Aviator as well.

Mine is at the dealership for this right now--for the third time. First dealership said they couldn't figure it out, second dealership first blamed it on big wheels and tires to which I said that's not a thing. Now they finally admit that they too experienced the vibration, last I heard they were pulling the transmission; I've read that some have had their driveshafts replaced and that seems to alleviate the issue.

Don't you just love that shit, blame it on the big wheels..  It's your wheels breaking the pavement, you let a loud fart, we compared it to other Aviators and it is fine..  Blah, Blah, Blah..

After wrap, xpel 70 tint and a ceramic coat.   Never had a white car before but I like it so far.  NJ tint can be an issue so this stuff cuts all the heat without drawing unwanted attention.   NJ is tough, if your license plate has a dealer frame that covers a 1/1000th of an inch of the plate its probable cause to pull you over let alone tint so no reason to draw the federales.  Side note go into any police parking lot and look at their personal cars and you could ticket every one of them for having their license plate covered.   I've paid a ticket for that and the female officer told me that is why she was pulling me over.  I was peeved about that.  I digress.

I have a Pristine White Reserve II...   I wish I would have stuck with my old colors of Burgandy Velvet on Capacino interior.  EVERYONE has white, LOL   I almost sprung for the Black Label too, was so close but happy I didn't after all of these problems, I would be pissed shelling out $940 a month for a shop queen!

    • Trunk kick doesn't work.  tried every single angle and have adjusted my foot position for the hitch.        <<<    Try it after you click unlock on the keyfob

On 6/7/2020 at 10:42 AM, Wolfepack88 saWhen my original order back in July of 2019 never showed up and the dealer and I both agreed to cancel I received a call back in January from the dealer offering me to order again and they would provide Xplan on a Black Label GT (I originally ordered non GT).   I decided to give Lincoln another shot.  I received my Car in April and have a little over 550 miles on it.   Yep Mustangchief I gave them another shot.  No emotion but honest feedback here on it so far (granted limited miles due to covid lockdown limiting need to drive as much).  Background I have owned mainly german from Benz, BMW and Audi will Benz being the most and audi the 2nd.

    Bad stuff.

    1.  Fit and finish is not up to par vs my German experiences.   I have a ceiling speaker that is not popped in all the way.  literally sticking out that I can put my pointer finger in the gap.  My 11 year old daughter sitting behind rear passenger seat noticed the panel below the front passenger seat belt adjustment is completely loose.  She saw sunlight through it which is the only reason we caught it.

    2.  mechanical:

    • Day time running lights have not worked yet.  (yes setting is on and yes the switch is in auto etc).  Flat out don't work.
    • Trunk kick doesn't work.  tried every single angle and have adjusted my foot position for the hitch.
    • turned off reverse sensor that brakes for you.  enough of the whiplash backing out.
    • randomly my entire left drivers side door controls for windows, locks, etc decided to not work just as I was entering hosptial parking lot to get ticket from machine. Had to get out of car.  Subsequently came back to life after shutting off car getting out and locking and coming back.
    • lane assist- at required speed and green bars on heads up display the car will run right of the road on left side (yes I switched to right hand vs left) unless I steer back.  As some have suggested in other topics take to dealer and have camera recalibrated.
    • stupid that lighter plug stays on because I have to manually turn off my radar detector every time.  PITA.
    • rattle in right rear passenger seat when no passenger in it.  One of those rattles that takes the right road (less than newer paved roads) condition or the right bump and you get it.  So I can see I will have to show the dealer because some trips on nice paved roads you don't get it.
    • Don't see a hang up button for phone if you are using carplay and you are on call.   No hang up button on dash, I have to hit phone or hit mainscreen hang up.  Maybe I missing something.
    • Minor wish as well, but wish door mirrors had blinking indicator when you use turn signal as a confirmation.  Totally minor and anal thing admittedly.
    • I used the cruise control once and vehicles came to stop and my car was driving along and didn't begin to stop and flashed the red blinking alarm warning and sound and I had to brake the car.  I will say my advanced cruise control on my audi was flawless and I drove 90 miles round trip back and forth to NYC from NJ everdyay on I-78 doing 85 down to stop and go and it never ever failed to stop the car.  will keep an eye on this.  If I had relied on vehicle only major accident would have happened and this was not a short stop situation.

    Good Stuff:

    1.  Great gas mileage so far and even with using preserve mode a bunch.

    2.  Rides nice (close to my sq5 and s6 air suspension  so no complaints with ride and I haven't been disappointed in transition from gas to electric when I have used normal.

    3. Climate controls system - so far awesome.  Love the auto function has 3 fan settings.  So many cars auto systems blow ass and you end up wanting to turn fan up.  Coldest AC system I ever had was in my 325 wagon.  You could hang meet in the car if necessary.

    4.  Room for kids is excellent in 2nd row.

    5.  Soft close doors- huge and love it.

    6.  Entry height is nice.  I wish automatically when you shut engine off and open door that it would lower as well or anytime you open drivers door or front passenger door with car in park.  likely have to get running board as wife is 4'11" and slideing down is gonna ruin the seat.

    7.  nighttime lights seem to be as good as my sq5.  The sq5's lights were the best nighttime automatic lights for brightness and function I have ever had in a car.  these are pretty damn good too.

    8.  Audio system is miles better than my B&O system that I had in my Audi or better than any other factory system I've had in any Benz, Bmw or Audi and I always upgraded my audio systems.  The SQ5 and the S6 the most recent blew arse totally.

    9.  HUD that works will polarized sunglasses is money period.  Info on screen is what you want.

    10.  never thought I would say this because on every other car I would turn it off or hack it to turn off- but the auto start-off is no bother to me.  Don't even think about it anymore.

    11.  Love the auto hold braking function.

    12.  No issues with my radar detector (valentine 1) so far.  I don't detect any range limitation.  Haven't put on EZ pass yet.

Ok thats it for now.  So my overall feeling is good for now with concern about quality of build as I never had these type of issues with my prior car and I ordered them all, none were lot cars. For the cost of this vehicle and who Lincoln is trying to compete with fit and finish should be outstanding.  I read and don't know if its valid but many people seem to say the Chicago plant quality is not the best int he ford plant system.   So time will tell and I bought the 125k extended warranty and dealer matched the online pricing that folks pointed to in the other threads.  I have a sneaking suspicion the warranty will be used.   I added xpel ultimate wrap, xpel fusion plus ceramic and xpel prime xr plus 70 tint for driver and passenger and sunroof so I'm all in on this vehicle for the next 10 years so investment is substantial.  You cant really detect the tint but the heat reduction from sun was immediate.  I will actually do the windshield once I get my 5 year new car inspection sticker from NJ DMV when they open.  Bought the car in PA.     Not bashing the car, I like it and hope to God the mechanical reliability is there and no old school American begin to get loose and rattle a few years in.   If they stay tight like my German cars did then this is a winner.  I tell my son all the time (borrowed form a movie favorite of mine), you won't be perfect nobody is, but you can put in a perfect effort.  I hope the men and women on the line building these vehicle did just that.   Time will tell.

  17. I have been reading a lot in other posts about the passenger seats rattling, I am so happy mine is not doing that, you have no clue.  I would be pissed off if I had to listen to that, just remember folks that the dealer is not the end-all of these issues.  Call Ford customer service on them if they are not fixing the problem,  those dealers are lazy as hell, and that is being nice.  When you report these technology issues to them, they look through a scripted SOP (standard operation procedure) and if Ford does not have one.  They are going to tell you, "Our service manager drives the vehicle for 20 miles and does not see anything out of the ordinary compared to other vehicles of its type".  Cmon that is the biggest bunch of bullshit, I just don't have the energy to go back and forth with Ford the dealer and LFS.  To me, the difference between a lemon and a good car is 36 mos.

  18. I thought I would give an update to this post, so far my Aviator has not jammed on the breaks while in reverse, but I will be returning to the dealer next week.  Friday night, there was a false alarm after I was assured that the software update should have resolved that issue.

Would say all problems prior to march will still be there.    Was hoping by waiting they would be addressing some issues.

Shut down apparently stopped all in the tracks.   So march problems are just going to be June problems.    Reading

all the comments sure dont want a locator unit that has been sitting on a lot since the first of the  year.  If stick out

the order,   going to be interesting if find self trading sooner than later due to issues.     Its going to be a gamble

I had to say it from personal experience; you have to wait till they are in the 2nd and 3rd model years to get the build quality we were told the vehicle would have.  I leased a Ford Edge Sport the first year it was changed over in 15, and it was a total mess.  The car I lease after that was a 2017 MKX; it was 2 model years into production and had no issues with it other than some service bulletins to address.

FWIW I’ve only put a thousand miles on my top-line (September 2019 build) Aviator I picked up in January (after a 6 month + 3 day wait!) and after I took the passenger seat apart myself to address a rattle, I am now hearing more interior squeaks and rattles from all over (Not the seat now FTW) which join all the other build quality wonkiness.  Could be worse, as others have experienced major electrical and mechanical Issues but I am seriously glad I took out only a 24 month lease this time.  Even though this thing was a bargain at only $90K compared to other similar vehicles in its class, I’m disappointed they just can’t seem to pull off a quality built vehicle.

I’m not ragging on Chicago as I have an MKS with over 125,000 miles that has been excellent. But 3 previous Oakville MKXs have all had their annoyances. Oddly my old MKZ (Mexican built) was still going strong with 227,000 miles when I traded it for the S.

Maybe my expectations are too high, but I may jump to GV80, X5 or GLE sooner than later.  Just disappointed.

My last Lincoln was a 17 MKX reserve II, I had no problems with that vehicle, and I drove it for three years, of course when I leased that vehicle, Lincoln had been three years into building that model, so all the bugs were worked out by then.  I had a 2015 Edge Sport that came out of Oakville when it was brand spanking new, and that thing was just a huge mess, I had to call customer service on that car it was so bad.  The Edge never had any mechanical issue, but the bumper was hanging off it, and the dumb ass dealer sold it to me that way and offered to replace it and never did.  It had several other things wrong with it that I had a hell of a time getting the dealer to fix until I called Ford.  The best thing to do is call Ford customer service and get a ticket started. They will send a customer service rep from Ford to look at the issue because they know these service departments cut corners and just want to get the car out the door.

Research the “lemon law” for vehicles in your state, then contact an attorney if your vehicle qualifies.

Ford has admitted publicly and in SEC filings that they (and the UAW) did a miserable job of launching and building the 2020 Ford Explorers and Lincoln Aviator.

I am willing to go that far if this thing SLAMS on the breaks in reverse on me again, had the dealer refused to acknowledge that issue like they did the other issues I reported, I would be feeding this thing back for Lincoln Financial Services piece by piece.
