    On the inverter, perhaps. There are two outlets in the cab already.  I've got a 397amp alternator and dual batteries, so that part is covered as much as it possibly can be.  

     

    Edit:  I just looked at ford's video about the pro power system. Yeah, it's all integrated, and embedded. Generator it is, then.... ?

     

  3. Has anyone thought about or actually added the Ford Pro Power of the F150 to their Super Duty? If you have, would you detail the parts needed and procedure to install it?  My '22 Lariat currently has the 5th wheel prep trailer plug receptacles in the bed. Since I am not likely to use this feature for the foreseeable future, I'd like to get 110v/12v plugs in their place.

    It isn't just engine type failures that can run into the big bucks. I had an extended warranty on my 2008 F350 and had both side mirrors replaced under it, about 3K when all was said and done.  There are a lot of little things on these trucks that can fail and when they do it can get into real money pretty quick.

    I did the extended warranty on my '22 F350. With all the disruption to supply chains, having to scramble for alternate 3rd party parts vendors, and constant juggling of assembly line shutdowns, ever changing schedules, layoffs due to jab requirements, etc., the previously refined and efficient process of putting a vehicle together now looks pretty chaotic, and open to problems in QC and assembly mistakes. Given that logic, the extended warranty made more sense this time around than it ever has before. A day and a half after taking delivery of my truck, the nacelle of the steering column started scraping against the steering wheel. The next day, the dealer looked at it, scratched their heads while wondering how that could happen. To their credit, they took it all apart, and reassembled it as it should have been done at the factory. New parts are on the way, but their ETA is unknown, because - supply chain issues.

    I went through the owner's manual again last night, but this particular operation is not detailed at all anywhere in the manual. Accessing the jack seems generic in regard to how it's addressed, i.e., not specifically for the F350 location.

    The first thing I did was pull on all the straps up by the headrests, since that made the most sense for a release placement, but, nothing happened, so I came here.

    I hear that there is a stripped down version that you cannot load non MS software onto, but haven't been in the MS worlds in a long time. But need a laptop for the same reason as you.

     

     

    The laptop & dongle arrived after I left on my trip, but the specs of the laptop says it comes with Windows 10, so that should be more than sufficient to do the job.

    I would recommend joining the Forescan forum. There were many helpful people there and they were willing to help if you lived close by. I myself have changed things on friends trucks. After you do it once its a breeze and like i said you can just write down the changes you made to the modules if you are not computer savvy like myself. If you are around se wis i could even help if you dont have a computer or dongle. most likely you will make changes once like me and never use again.

     

    I like to tweak little functions, like ForScan enables, and the parameters available for modification surely will grow, and so when that happens, having my own laptop & dongle (on the way) will enable me to go in and change things up, if so desire.  And of course, if I'm near a fellow Ford owner without the gear, I'm happy to step up & help out.

  9. Monoman,  the iOS version don't allow changes the module function/behavior. You can only read the codes, so it's pretty useless, since iOS isn't developed to the same as the Windows version. I went online & bought the corded dongle, and a refurbished HP laptop for about $255 all in. The HP laptop's sole purpose will be to make the tweaks I want through the ForScan program.

    Unless you're the type who likes to constantly tweak, you'll probably use Forscan once or twice and never touch it again.  That's the reason I recommended just borrowing a laptop.

     

    Yeah, I wish I had access like that to borrow one, but I gotta be self sustaining for the time being. Thank you for the help.

    The dongle plugs into the OBDII, and then into the USB-A port on the laptop, correct?  I'm not always going to be near someone who has a windows laptop, so I'm going to have to look into getting a refurbished windows laptop just for doing this. Not optimal, but it's what's necessary.

  12. To kick off, I'm a Mac computer/Apple phone user. Hopefully, this doesn't inspire a bunch of useless, tribal, poop flinging responses..... 

     

    That said, beyond just reading the parameters set for the truck, if you're out of luck as an apple user, if you want to make changes to the parameters. Am I correct abut that?  As it appears to me, not only do I need the OBDII reader, but I also need to get a windows computer to make the changes to things like turning off the double honk, enabling the 'bambi mode', etc.  Please correct me, if I'm wrong.  Please put me on the path necessary to make good use of ForScan's capabilities.

    Contact Flood Ford, they sell the plans much less expensive.

     

    I chose to go with maintenance plan for my 6.7D.  We expect to be doing a lot of travel, and may or may not be near home to do oil and fuel filter changes myself.  Maintenance plan costs, pretty much are net zero to paying a shop to do them.

    Can you give me contact info for Flood Ford, please?

     

    Does their plan tie you to that dealership, or can you use their plan nationwide?

    I'd be interested to hear the options from other dealers. To be fair to the dealer, he only presented the options & scenarios of plan use - no pressure - which I appreciated.

    I did a search, but didn't see any previous threads discussing the topic, and sorry if it's like asking which engine oil is best.... ; ) :

     

    Next week, I'm set to finally pick up my '22 F350 Lariat 7.3.  Speaking with the finance guy, he gave me an overview of a couple warranty/maintenance plans. One costs $10,500 and cover everything, always for 7 yrs/100k miles. The 'budget' plan covers mechanical & electronics for 7 yrs./100K for $4000. Currently, I have a 2015 Silverado half-ton with 45K miles and is in near perfect condition and only a couple problems that needed attention. I will be driving quite a bit more with the Ford, because I'm gonna be traveling around in semi retirement - I haven't decided about that being a permanent decision yet.

     

    Is the F350 gasser problematic? I haven't heard of any major issues that would make the preferred package a worthwhile expense. What about the electronics? Is the center display prone to failure? Do the power mirrors shit the bed on a regular basis?  Has the previous 2 years of covid issues created quality control issues the owner ends up dealing with? This isn't a first year model, so hopefully, the bugs have pretty much been worked out.
