I would never buy a GM product, but I like the look of the front of those trucks, especially in person. The stock photos don't really do them justice.
I think with model changes there are always going to be two camps, the ones who love it and the ones who hate it, but it's all subjective. I wouldn't want an early production example of a new model though, not until some revisions have been made.

Here's my experience making a change... I ordered an F350 XL on 8/31, and changed to a Lariat on 11/09, as well as removed some standalone options.
I finally got scheduled today, and Ford's order tracking page shows my order date as 11/09, not 8/31, for whatever that is worth. Changing the trim level changed the order date, so I assume changing the model would as well.
However, they don't seem to be scheduling in chronological order anyway, so it may not hurt. I say make the change and avoid future regret. Good luck!

Finally got scheduled today for a build week of 2/28. Ordered on 8/31 and changed from an XL to a Lariat and removed 5th wheel prep on 11/09.
F350 SRW CCSB 4x4, 6.7, Lariat, Black Appearance and a few other options
Grateful to finally get scheduled despite the spray-in bed liner being a frequent commodity issue. There was no way I was going to go without the Black Appearance package....

I ordered 8/2, F-450 King Ranch, Crew, 4x4, Diesel w/ AS. Might be in the same boat as you. Ordering a 5th wheel camper this month. Guess it will be a race to see who gets here first. My Tundra, although an outstanding 1/2 ton truck, could never handle a 18k lb + 5th wheel. Could be interesting if I can't pick up the 5th wheel lol
I'm also moving from a Tundra to a Super Duty, and for a similar reason. The Tundra is indeed an excellent truck but it just doesn't have the towing or payload capacity that I need. My DCLB has a dismal 1250lbs of payload. Ordered an F350 SRW on 8/31 and hoping to buy a 14k-16k flatbed trailer someday.

I certainly hope they aren't prioritizing by trim level, but I have to believe we aren't getting the full story on why some trucks are taking so long to schedule.
Just a thought though, I suspect that my original order for an XL/STX with the UTT package would have been passed over indefinitely because there was a note from around June/July stating none would be built until further notice (XLT with UTT but the XL is vastly similar). Did you spec UTT on your XLT?
