Seeing that there are so many anti-International Ford people (at least on these forums). How about Ford NA offering the Overseas Delivery program for consumers in North America , that see the value in Ford's vehicles in other world markets. Ala Volvo Cars OSD program see link http://www.volvocars.us/salesandservices/overseasdelivery/

This way Ford can keep building whatever and wherever they are at the moment, and consumers get what they "want"!!

Nobodies ego, pride, wll be damaged.

Having the "CHOICE" would be mucho appreciated.

the problem is that you do not BUY AN EUROPEAN VOLVO in that program.. you buy a US-spec Volvo, but Volvo FLIES you yo Sweden to enjoy it ..

besides this program is pricey, and is only offered by luxury automakers who can afford it ...

this would do nothing to the fact that some of the EU cars cannot be currently certified in US,and the fact that any imported EU Ford would still be not legal for on-street operation.

So make them legal. Is Ford not contemplating importing S-Max,Mondeo, and maybe more?

Many in North America already believe the propaganda that Euro Fords are TOO expensive, but some know better. And so what if "only Luxury" auto manufacturers are doing it. What's wrong with sticking your head above the crowd and doing something that creates some type of PR or excitment. So many excuses I read daily "WHY" Ford NA should not do SOMETHING. I am just suggesting SOMETHING, instead of trying to do something. Trying is qute the opposite of DOING.

they are contemplating them .. but at this point w have no insider information whether the cars can be imported without significant changes...

in the least ... the NEXT GENERATION of many EU cars will come here / be shared with US ... but for now, the architectures are way too different from US certified models to know whether they will work .. and this is different from "Mazda3 is C1 so C1 Focus can make it" .. there are so many details to work out in certification, that you cannot even look at any platform-mates ..

at this point we do not know ... Ford is still looking into it .. the only car that semi-officially made it is the utility van Transit-Connect.

and FEDERALIZING or GLOBALIAZING products is WAY different from offering each soul a free transatlantic ticket ... that would be DUMB thing to do ... with the VOLUME of Ford branded cars it is even impossible ... besides .. when these cars come here .. why will you fly to Europe to buy a car that will probably already be assembled in the US, Canada or Mexico?

The European Delivery programs are tiny little perks to luxury buyers .. they make absolutely no sense in the "standard" market.

Whether the cars "can" be imported.

What are you saying, that North America or Ford is in the dark ages, that these requirements can only be done by manufacturers such as GM (Opel), VW, Volvo, MB, Porsche, Nissan, Mitsu, and on and on.

You ask why would anybody fly to Europe to buy to buy a "Ford". Why not? Volvo program saves you 8% off the MSRP, the customer gets a chance to see some of Europe, some people actually like to travel and experience other countries, its fun, it has snob appeal, you can combine it with cool ideas such as Volvo's Germany progam "the driving school at Nurburgring, in Germany. You will be able to experience a driving school like no other on this famed grand-prix race track"

Or just to drive your new Ford on the autobahn. Are we not in what all the marketing companies call "lifestyle" times. Consumers want life-style experiences from there personal purchases these days, and I think this would boost Ford NA image in more ways then one.

You think this is only good enough or of interest to the customer whom purchases a Volvo? Then I think you are wrong or just have little imagination.

because the EUCD Ford and C1 Focus were not INTENDED to be sold in US so design decisions might have been made that will prevent them from being imported into US .. the requirements are different .. but thye are similar enough that a car CAN be easily designed to be GLOBAL compliant .. however Ford EU cars were NOT intended to be global - they did not take US into consideration as a Market ...

so Ford CAN do it .. but they chose not to plan for it ..

and bout the EU Delivery system - I will leave it to someone else to tell you why it does or does not make sense ... IMO it does not .. and I can write a paper on why not .. but this is not worth my time .. I will leave it to someone else to pick it up from here.
