Green Lantern
I think it simply comes down to personal preference on this one. It is not really a true comparison to match an SUV up with a compact vehicle. Both of these hybrids are great vehicles...if that is the type of vehicle you want. To state that one is better than the other is simply a statement as to your opinion and nothing more. Not that there is anything wrong with anyone individual's opinion but it is not something that is a fact to everyone else. Enjoy the Prius, enjoy the Mariner...either way know that you are doing your part to make cleaner air and burn less fuel. When everyone does this we will have come a long way towards prolonging the planet....of course that is just my opinion
gocargo
Woah there Critic, you're acting like a politician by mixing facts & fiction. First, I said 2008 vehicles. 2nd I said Fully Loaded. 3rd, MMH basic warranty is 3 years 36000 Directly From My Manual so REDLINE YOURSELF. Prius is sold in Packages 1 through 6 with 6 being fully optioned, $28,000 and it HAS all your redline "options". 2008 Prius Loaded: BiXenon Headlights, Head-Up style Guages, Backup Camera, Homelink, FULLY Keyless, Bluetooth, Voice Activated Commands, Larger flat area storage room, Can Haul twenty 8-foot 2x4's' Your CHOICE Sirius or XM satellite ($350 oem module), Steering wheel climate & bluetooth controls. 2008 MMH Loaded: None of the above, 10 mpg less and $3000 more cost, Sirius Radio only and 6 months free service, moon roof, beeping backup sensors. Can tow 1000 lbs total. Yes, the MMH is a average sized SUV and the Prius is a compact. Both have their uses, that's why I have both. gocargo
I was wrong about one thing, Escape/Mariner Hybrid AND Prius both have exactly the SAME warranties. Basic bumper to bumper 3 yrs / 36,000 miles Drivetrain 60 mos / 60,000 miles Hybrid unique componets 8 yrs / 100,000 miles NO your still wrong. I did my post directly off of the toyoda site and those warranty value's are listed on the toyoda site as Mariner having a higher value. Toyoda actually listed it wrong once but at the bottom lists it like i reported it. I did everything off of the manufacturer's sites. and used toyoda's compare . Their was no package as to option package 1-6. I could have loaded out the mariner if I wanted too. I stated it was an apple to apple '08 comparison. BASE TO BASE I could go on to say that Ford warrants the hybrid componets for 10 years in Calif.

I didn't mix one bit of fiction in anything, actually you should check your facts. You want to compare hauling 24 2x4's with TOWING 1000 lbs and hauling 5 people plus the extra cargo space? Now who's mixing what?In this quote- your wrong on the warranty. Read my post throughly. it said base to base and then i also did another comparison. their was no option on toyoda's site to package it with option 6. That's the same as them listing Ford as not listed. I saw the tricks they did. Ford comes WITH Sirius and 6 months standard with the nav package that you pay for on the pirus. Otherwise on a stock hybrid is still $195 - cheaper than the toyoda. Don't tell me it doesn't come with it. Their is an edit function in these controls, you could have edited your mistake in this post, and you also didn't need to copy the complete post. I also have a hybrid. They serve 2 different functions, you show me another SUV/CUV that gets 30 EPA. on the highway. Also the Ford has steering wheel climate controls IF i remember correctly and the '09's will have sync. Your correct the '08's don't as of yet. but the new model year starts very soon if not tomorrow I believe. Oh and so all of a sudden if it beeps when you back up, and doesn't have that camera it's a failure? When most vehicles can't even beep. I don't know.. yea.. now were back to counting cup holders I guess. Next thing will be counting visor mirrors i suppose. I didn't put the spin on toyoda. uhhh last point, Ford has it beat with style by a mile. and the Prius only gets 67 MORE MILES PER TANK THAN THE MARINER. Transpower
I chose the MMH over the Prius for three reasons: cargo capacity, four-wheel drive, and high-seating position. I know that the Prius gets better fuel economy, but I wouldn't be able to carry very much in it and I wouldn't be able to go off-road. gocargo
Yup, you're right and I'm wrong. I havn't mastered the art of dealer website cut & paste as you apparantly have. Unfortunately I'm less technical and a bit more average. I only use the seat of my pants and the eyes in my head to compare both my fully optioned '08 mmh & prius side by side, package to package, option to option, owners manual to owners manual, window sticker to window sticker and price to price over the same roads and driving conditions anytime at my whim. Anyway, have a great day! Edited June 28, 2008 by gocargo
08HybridOK
To add to the confusion, the FEH/MMH still get Fed tax credit of what, $3000, the Prius is now at $0 correct? Plus possible state credit (but the big IF you qualify). So if the post above is correct, $28k to $31K, with tax credit they are equal priced. I bought my FEH for the function & mpg's, not just mpg's alone. I need ground clearance living off a dirt/gravel pot holed driveway, and the need to carry some stuff, but I still have my large SUV for the large loads & trailer pulling, but it stays parked 90% of the time now. As to the topic, I figured my payoff to be almost 15 years. I traded a 17mpg Freestar for a net value of $0 (got what I still owed on it on the trade) for a 32mpg FEH. About a 47% fuel savings of ~$1500/yr. Minus Fed & state tax credit I'll break even in 15 yrs! (based on 15000 mi/yr, I only avg 12000 so closer to 20 yrs for me, just using the OP's #'s)
