Nissan announced that the Leaf will be the first car in production to have a integrated smartphone app to control its functions remotely.

Because all Nissan Leafs come with a cellular data radio in the console, you can, through the use of a special app, you can use your smartphone to choose a interior temperature for your vehicle to be preconditioned to as you return from a long day at the office, or just a afternoon at the mall.

You can also use it to find out the state of charge in the vehicle, and even send you a message to tell you when the car hits a full charge if it is currently at a charging station.

Also, if you find yourself on the road and in need of a quick ‘top up’ or a suitable overnight locale with a charging infrastructure, the Leaf’s cellular radio is interconnected with its sat-navigation, which means all the nearest available charging stations will always be at your fingertips.
