BlueOvalForums _ Ford Employees _ UAW WILL MOVE $110 MILLION FROM STRIKE FUND

Posted by: Wanderinglost Today, 02:48 PM

Who thinks this is a good thing?

LAS VEGAS -- The UAW on Tuesday altered its constitution to allow $50 million to be moved from the union's $925 million strike fund to be used for operations.

The amendments also permit the union's International Executive Board to allocate an additional $60 million from the strike fund to the general fund for organizing, education and other projects. The $60 million is the maximum that can be moved in the four years between constitutional conventions.

Another change would allow additional funds from member dues to be kept at the union locals for organizing and education.

About 2,000 union delegates and guests are meeting here at the 34th national convention to choose officers and adjust resources for crucial negotiations for a new master agreement with General Motors, Ford Motor Co. and the Chrysler group in the fall of 2007.

Kevin Bollman, chairman of the union's constitution committee, said the amendments will give the union the flexibility it needs to meet challenges. Those challenges include a shrinking market share for the domestic automakers.

Cash and cash equivalents in the union's operating funds declined to $64.6 million in 2005 from $68.6 million in 2004, according to a UAW operating statement.

In response to concerns voiced by delegates that the transfers would shrink the strike fund on the eve of a possible walkout at Delphi Corp., UAW President Ron Gettelfinger said the fund is adequately funded to weather a 153-week stoppage at Delphi.

The UAW says it will strike Delphi if the giant supplier uses the U.S. Bankruptcy Court to void its labor contracts. Delphi put its U.S. operations in Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Oct. 8. Those operations encompass 29 plants and 33,000 unionized workers, including 23,000 represented by the UAW.

Delphi has asked the court to void its labor agreements. But the court has delayed further hearings on the request until August because of progress made on GM-funded buyouts and early retirements that could reduce Delphi's hourly work force to less than 10,000 by the end of the year.

UAW spokesman Paul Krell said the strike fund will maintain a strong balance from continuing dues payments and investment income.

From my understanding, the International now employees as many, or nearly as many people as they did when we had our most members. We are losing members every year and they maintain their size? I guess they would need more money to fund their expences.

This is not a good thing for union members but a very good thing for the UAW chairmen, presidents, committeepersons, appointed reps and delegates now voting in favor on this in Las Vegas. This guarantees that their continued traveling to Miami, Palm Beach, Daytona, Las Vegas, New Orleans, Florida, Canada, Los Angeles, Lake Tahoe, etc. will not be stopped.

Paul Krell does not want to be miss his traveling expense account and big UAW salary. He will say what Ron Gettelfinger tells him to say.

Nothing the UAW international labor or local labor unions doing in Las Vegas is a good thing for the members.

Can you imagine how much this trip to Las Vegas for 2,000 is costing the UAW members?

All the union dues collected from the members at all the plants scheduled to close will be handed over to the UAW International.

I guess they're raiding the strike fund because we won't be needing it anymore.

We are screwed! How can we impeach a president we dont even vote for?

It is now clearer than ever, the International doesnt care about us, just themselves, they dont care about us, they'll gladly sacrifice 3000 of us, in hopes of organizing 3500 lower paying jobs somewhere down the road.

Were not sending the work to Mexico anymore, Bush is just going to bring the Mexicans here here to do the work.

Don't believe me......just watch and see!

I wonder what Gettlefinger bargain away for us next?

I sure hope ETAP is still around in September, cause I'm headed back to school, I have lost all confidence that the UAW will be able to protect my job and allow me to maintain my lifestyle for 17 more years

[/quote If they cant organize HONDA AND TOYOTA than all that money movin is for the sake of money movin. Middle Class UAw first to go. GOverment-Local,State,Fed are next. Republican views are manifesting in America. Teachers are not joining a manufacturing union, so this Political agenda is doomed from the start. Toyota, Honda,HYundai and every other auto factory has to be UAW or it means Money moving to spend. Let us all get in, Free gas to anybody that joins the UAW. Unionism without physical confromtation is useless. :titanic: :read::sos::violin: :rip: :missing:

The biggest crooks out there are in the union. Tell me one good, logical reason why this is in Vegas. There are no UAW workers there. There are no plants there. Why are we giving all that money to a town the doesn't support the people who are losing their jobs? I would love to have a video of those guys at night. I am sure I could get some good stuff on why they go to Vegas and do this. :hysterical:

So true great post!!!! My question is why will it take all those millions to recruit others? I'd like to see them fight for the members they have now. Maybe the good-ole boy club sees that the american auto company is moving to China so they better sign up all the American employees at Toyota, Honda, BMW,Hyundai and Benz plants that are running over time. LOL

They had their chance to fight for the current membership and didn't do a thing. They sat by as Ford closes operations in the great U.S. and didn't do a thing. They should have worked with Ford years ago and tell them about the crappy ass car they were trying to sell the public. The union had an obligation to work with Ford to make them the best automobile company out their and they sat on their asses and did nothing. Gettlefingeryourass is only trying to save a paycheck for himself. Trying to boost membership now is 'Like rearranging the deck furniture on the Titanic"

1st of all,I think Las Vegas is a inappropriate location for the Convention! Why not Detroit? It sure would be a lot cheaper. This years Convention was one of the most important that there has ever been! The hell with luxury and gambling @ Union members expense!Don't get me wrong I support the UAW as well as Ron Gettlefinger & will support them through thick & thin. It's just that they don't appear to care what we members think or how we feel about current Ford/UAW actions! There comes a time when we the members must question some of the UAW's actions & that time may well now.I have already opted out on Political spending.I am a moderate Democrat, although I do sometimes lean towards some Conservative policies. :stirpot:

2nd Las Vegas is a Powerful Union town.Nearly all(if not all)of the hotels & casinos are Union. Not UAW,but union nonetheless.Atlantic City is the same.

:do what: It's only been recent that Ford would listen to anything that the UAW had to say about operations, quality, etc! In fact it appears that Ford still doesn't give a shit what the UAW or the members have to say!

I sure hope you can make it in school. Stop crying about the UAW not protecting your job. Silly boy grow up. the membership is the union. If you do not have the guts to stand up with your union brothers and sisters why do you think you'll do better with a degree? Many people in the business world get screwedevery day because they do not belong to a union./
