emerrill
For those who might be interested, K&N does have one of their washable air filters for the 2012 Focus, part E-2993, and it runs about $50 on Amazon. You can see it below, K&N on the left, stock filter on the right. They generally have less restriction then stock paper filters, but the real benefit to me, is it will last the life of the vehicle, you just take it out to wash it periodically. DEREKC
Can you provide us with an update over the weekend with how the car performs with the new K&N filter please. Am interested.
emerrill
Honestly I can't really say. You would only be talking 1-3% improvement at best, which is too little for me to feel any different, it would be complete placebo effect. Somebody would need to dyno it before and after to really know.
630land
This is just my opinion, I've used K&N with Ford V6 and I4 motors. It seems to make a difference in the V6's, but on four bangers, not much. On my '94 Stang and Contour V6's, they got better MPG and more growl. On a Focus Zetec and Escort CVH, not too much change. Maybe a little more oomph and 1 mpg? But, would like to know if the '12 Focus performs better w/K&N. Edited June 15, 2011 by 630land
Chibana
I would expect a few HP increase. A full-on intake from FSWerks or other reputable shop will add 5 to 8 whp to a car like this, typically. I plan to eventually go with a full intake from Ford Racing (it's in their catalog, but isn't available yet) or FSWerks or another reputable aftermarket Focus performance shop. I will not do a cold air intake if it gets air from low in the car, though. I shorted the MAF sensor in my 2005 Mazda3 by sucking up water into one of these at high RPM, costing me $600 in parts, labor, and rental. I also plan to get a cat-back exhaust eventually (which is also in the Ford Racing catalog, but not available yet). With intake, cat-back, and premium gas, this car should be good for at least 175 hp (if Ford wasn't overly conservative with their timing advancement for premium gasoline). mrgdr57
Just finished installing a K&N E-2993 air filter on the Focus. Before putting cold air intakes with K&N cone filters on both Lincoln LSes, I used flat panel K&N air filters in the stock LS airboxes. I don't anticipate any perceptible performance improvement with the replacement but the one-time investment is worth two stock replacement filters and cleaning and oiling the K&N is a fun project every now and then.
