jscozz
I am ordering an 07 Explorer in NJ. One of the options in the order guide is "422" California Emissions System. NJ is listed as a cross border state and says that this system is optional for me. My question is... what do I get or not get with or without this option? If it is optional for me in NJ, do I want it or not? It is zero cost on the order guide. Jeff
jscozz
Hmmm... I am wondering if there is any change in engine programming... mileage tradeoff for being more emission conscious... anyone else have any more info?

Stone Cold
Anyone have any idea what else is different? I would think you would lose performance, with more restrictive California emissions option.
jscozz
That was my concern... but I wonder if it is just computer settings or actual equipment difference. If there were no difference in performance I would get the option just to be envionmentally correct... but if I lose a lot of performance I would have to think twice and wait for an Explorer hybrid or fuel cell vehicle to be environmentally correct.. I spoke with an engineer today and he told me,you wouldn't notice any performance loss with the California emissions package.
