Fuel Gauge Failure

Recommended Posts

At about the half way point of a four hour return home from picking up the 2023 Lariat (7.3) the miles to empty gauge went to zero and a CEL came on. Topped off the tank to be on the safe side and it only took eight gallons. Working on this, I have determined that the Ford Pass app shows the correct miles to empty. On entering the truck and going to the accessory position the gauge shows the proper condition. Start the engine and things remain normal during high idle, but at the moment the idle drops the gauge goes to zero. On board diagnostics and Ford Pass show all systems normal. My code reader is dead so I cant check further over the holiday weekend.

Anyone else run into this? Does not seem to be the sensor and I am not sure where any intermediate processors might be before the new 12" display. Can't say I like this all digital dash. Lots of wasted space and flashy graphics when they should be concentrating on giving the driver clear information regarding critical systems. Other than this I really love the truck so far.

Finally picked up a new code reader. As might be expected, it reads P25B0, Fuel Level Sensor Stuck. That will call for dropping the tank and I have an appointment for the 14th. No small task.

Sounds awesome to me NOT good luck

Well, not fixed after all. First attempt to fill the truck allowed me to see that the sensor is indeed stuck. The gauge shows 2/3 full. At first i thought that perhaps it is slow to register or that in stopping when the pump clicked off that I had not actually filled the tank despite the twenty gallon add. So, I pulled into the next station and topped it off. It only took .6 gallons.

I am sure this is an isolated problem and that others should not see it, but it is aggravating. Dealer now wants it left for a few days. Hate doing that, but it needs to be fixed correctly.

New Pump/Sensor installed by dealer. Truck is now working as it should. Although not the dealer of purchase, this was the dealer I have been using for years for normal service and they did their best to correct this in a timely manner.
