Gooshie
Rumor on the floor is that we will not make it past 2012 and depending on the economy maybe sooner.
sparks will fly
Rumor on the floor is that we will not make it past 2012 and depending on the economy maybe sooner. That's why it's a rumor, no one knows.
chkchka
That's why it's a rumor, no one knows. I think it will be a slow process. One side will go idle first. I say we have at least 3 years and if Ford can turn it around we'll be fine.
fordworker/driver
i've seen people talk on BON that we would lose the escape after the trucks, anyway. so i don't think KCAP has a strong chance unless sales skyrocket and stay steady for the next five years. supposedly there is not any talk of truck side going mass relief with the next contract. One of the product specialist guys said that passenger would return to overtime soon, anyone from passenger side here this?

That all I have heard. Then we launch the 08 in Jan so overtime might start back then? Not for sure.
pant load
My gut feeling is you will stay open, but what if its over in 2012. Pretend its 2012, your closing and you have the chance to go back to 2006 and prepare for KCAP closing in 2012 what would you do. I'm at TCAP and I'm waiting to get the buyout. I prepared for this and I will be fine, but it still was a huge kick in the nuts to come across the Mississippi Bridge and see that white circus tent in the parking lot last week. When I walked in I talked to a line worker with six years at Ford and a family to support, tears were rolling down his face. I went to the tent with the afternoon shift and it looked like a a funeral, even some of the union guys who were going to retire anyhow had tears running down their face. But even as bad as that day was it could be worse. 1. Minnesota's economy is good compared to other Ford locations that are closing. 2. We got the state displaced worker program activated early to help us out ( I used it, it helped) 3. We have an honest local union who are making the best of a bad situation. 4. As much as we complain about management, really they're not that bad. 5. We have early retirements, education opportunities and 100K to help us leave. I dont know about Kansas City's economy now, let alone in 6 years, and who knows if Ford will offer packages in 2012. Just in case GET READY. Has it beeen announced exactly when you shut down? Sorry if this is old news and I'm behind.
pant load
The official closing day is in spring 2008, but we are loosing a shift this January and TPTer's will fill in for whom ever wants to leave. It's going to be a totally different crew by Spring 2007. It's been a good ride!
