Anyone else think Ford may be waiting till contracts expire so they don't have to pay us anything?

At Utica trim (which is now an ACH plant) just under 200 signed up for buyout packages. Ford wanted to let all go and replace some with people that are in GEN some have been in GEN for almost 2yrs, union said NO. So only 120 got to go. So don't blame Ford its the union stopping buyouts, there worried about there head count. They have to pay for all those jackets and trips some how.

Hey now, they gave us a nice coat when they closed SLAP although I do not know who actually paid for it. We all figured it was to help keep us warm in the winter while looking for a job.

What's an "excape clause?" :bandance:

IMHO, Ford/ACH needs to follow GM/Delphi's agreement: offer buyouts to everyone, and create 5000 openings at the remaining Ford plants. Then, there'd probably be enough openings to allow people from plants that are closing to transfer. There might even be enough openings for the ACH left who want to stay with Ford.

TRUE it is the UAW stopping the buyouts but many do not want to believe it.

The more workers that take buyouts the less union dues collected by the UAW.

The UAW will wait until the last minute at most plants scheduled to close and by then Ford will not be offering.

The folks on this board just can't seem to comprehend what "Buyout" means. The Plants that are idled now under the current UAW Contract are lucky, they have a bargaining chip, so to speak. That chip is the GEN Bank. FORD is required contractually to pay workers a percentage of 40 hours if their Plant is working or is not. That said, FORD is offering "Buyout Packages" to get Employees "off the books" so to speak, not because they are being sympathetic to Employees situations. Do you think in you're wildest dreams that FORD is going to agree to a GEN Bank Clause in the upcoming labor agreement with the UAW ??? If you owned a business would you sign an agreement with you're employees that says you will pay them if business is bad and we have to close ?? That said, NAP is slated to be idled in 2008. The new contract will not have a GEN clause like the current UAW Contract, bye bye bargaining chip. There will be nothing left to buyout !!!!!! The only chance for a buyout would be if

1) Plant would idle before the end of current contract

2) Go to 1 shift before the end of current contract (some would be offered)

3) Reduce the work force before the end of current contract (some would be offered)

4) The Union uses the 2007 contract negotiations to get Plants that are slated to be closed in 08 a special package

Our Union needs to step up and demand FORD offer Packages across the board, it seems Plants that are slated to close later on in FORD'S Way Forward Plan are getting the short end of the stick. If the International Union doesn't step up the only check that FORD is going to cut,,,,,,,,will be for you're last week worked !!!
