  1. It is however...the ONLY Ford "car" plant in north america that generates a profit. And...it was dumped on the rental market to keep the resale of the 500 and fusion high. Funny......my neighbor is driving a rental 500 right now

    go figure

Fusion and 500 are planned for roughly 10-15% fleet sales (Best selling Camary is 14% and the LX cars are (300C, Charger, Magnum) are at 25%!), contrasted with 94% of Taraus sales going into the fleet

Who said the 500 isnt making a Profit? its built in Chicago...thats in North America the last time I checked. Mexico is also part of North America too :)

Hate to say it, but the Taraus is gone and Atlanta with it. All those awards don't mean jack shit when it comes to the bottom line. I've experanced in my Family...Edison plant had the same thing happen to it.

  2. I dont' worry about economic and manufacturing so much, but I do worry about the possiblity of WWIII. If that were to happen, who's going to make the weapons, uniforms, etc? Honda? Toyota?

If there ever is a WWIII, it will not be fought in the same way as WW2 was. All modern wars are come as you are type affairs and if it lasts longer then 6 months at WW2 type combat intestinsty levels, both countries would be bankrupt or pile of nuclear ashes.

The US manufacturing base for military equipment is protected and we dont have to worry about Transplants building war material.

  3. I'm willing to bet money that the new plant WILL NOT BUILD TRUCKS!

Cuatitlan is building the old F-150 for the Mexican market and I guess ford will start importing the 04+ F-150 in its place. If they kill of Cuatitlan, it doesnt affect US Sales of the F-150. Further More, what is the utlitlization of DTP? I'm sure if NAP was closed, the remaining plants would be able to make the demand..I wouldn't be the least bit suprised if MTP was retooled to build the F-150 in addtion to the Expy and Navagator, since they will be sharing the same frame now.

What Ford needs is a plant where they can build small cars at a profit and I think thats what this plant will be doing for them. Not getting an exisiting product line.

  4. As an owner of a SVT Focus...I agree.

but let us also consider the fact that less then 20K of either the Contour or Focus SVT where built in their short production run then further filter out that amount by how many would be interested in posting about them on the internet and well...you have the idea :D

  5. Is it any wonder why people go postal? How increadilby degrading- loose your livlihood and your dignity at the same time. This is a tragic time at Ford. I used to love this company, and I am now ashamed for it.

If there is a lesson to be learned here is that there is no loyalty- it's every man for themselves. Get what you can from this company and don't look back.

When does a faceless company owe you anything? This happens to everyone else out there, why should Ford be any different? Its just a fact of life...

I kinda think some of these smart dudes they are terminating will go postal in a big way, and that it's just the beginning for the country. With todays technology one person can cause terrible damage just by himself.(herself)

And those same people can goto jail for there actions too...

  6. Canadian plants have legacy costs as well: Oakville Assembly was built in 1953, and Oakville Truck was built 1964/65. St. Thomas must have quite a few retirees as well.

They also have socialized medicie that picks up much of the costs of the retirees, vs nothing in the US, so it is still cheaper...

  7. Lets also not forget the fact that many of the people watching the way forward plan where stock and sakeholders in the company, who have money tied up into the company, thus the talk about plants overseas. Its not all about you and what happens in your life. You can't have the mind set that a company owes you anything, since when you do, you'll wind up flat on your ass without a pot to piss in. Gone are the days of lifetime employement

  8. a low cost plant in north amercia..mexcio is in north amercia..i think i will move to mexcio..with all the jobs going there..we will just switch names with mexico.

Just have to get an eduimacation or a job skill and you wont have to move to Mexico

  9. You think? The Taurus is what Ford made it. Ford did everything they could to kill this product... After 20 years they will finally achieve it by closing us down. Ford made the decision to quit making the Sables, wagons and SHO's, and to take the Taurus off the dealer's lots. They could have restyled it, came out with a spectacular 20th edition, and gotten another 20 years out of it. Regardless of what you say, it was a good family car. I am still driving my '98. The Taurus is still keeping us working two shifts a day, with no down weeks scheduled.

Theres no saying that the Taraus WAS a great car, just that Ford runed it in 1996 and then decided not to fix it since they had all that money coming in from SUV's and Trucks. Then it got dropped into the fleets.. The car was beyond any fixing by that point...thus was replaced....

  10. Another thing: Stop telling us how wonderful Ford Fusion sales are. They aren't wonderful. You sold 7,568 Fusions in December. At that rate, Fusion amounts to less than 100,000 a year. You sold more units, 8,321, of the Ford 500 in December, and your people do nothing but dump on the 500 and call it a flop. And you are killing the Taurus, yet it sold 14,990 copies in December, double that of the Fusion. If Fusion is a success, just what is a failure at Ford?

OK, Fusion might do well as time goes on. And it's a good factory strategy. You are making many varieties of vehicles--Fusion, the Mercury Fusion (Milan) the Lincoln Fusion (Zephyr)--off a Mazda platform at that Mexican plant. That could be enough to keep the factory running full. Even so, that doesn't make Fusion a sales home run. Don't fool yourself.

Uh the Taraus is a rental Fleet whore...and Fusion was/is limited by supply. I guess everything needs to take off like a rocket ship from month one

  11. Perhaps in Mexico or China.

    No in North America...

What they are trying to do is build a plant where they can build small B-class cars at a PROFIT, which is one of the growth segments they are trying to aim for.

  12. I really wonder about this and the up coming Caliber...I have this feeling they are gonna tank

The Front bumper is just wrong on so many levels...

At least the Caliber isn't as hard on the eyes

  13. Honestly I think it can mean nothing, or if anything most likely something on a cd3 platform or else the idea of utilizing a site to its max capacity in the most efficient way becomes just talk. not very good for a way forward, eh?

AAI builds two totally different products under its roof...I dont see any reason why Oakville can't do the Edge/MKX and the D3 people movers all under one roof also...

  14. The Mustang was commissioned by the British at a relatively low cost. Built/engineered in the USA but of British origin.

Uh the Brits wanted to buy more P-40's, but North American didnt want to build them for them...more history in the link I provided

The American government had a program to develop a new fighter into which they poured a lot of capital. The fighter was an abysmal failure.

    Uh which fighter was this?

  15. it is easy for you to sit there and come up with 'your' great ideas..when you are NOT working putting up with the crap we do and i feel the same way instead of taking all these pay cuts(which is only temporary then they will close eventually and go to china) just FUCKING CLOSE THEM ALL NOW!

Hmm take a pay cut and have a job for a couple years (according to you) or shut all the plants down and be out of a job now? That isnt hard to figure out what I would want...

Anyways...from my observation, the Union doesn't really give a shit about its workers, nor can they since the company that employees the union is in such bad shape.

What it boils down to is that everyone is pretty much fucked and there isnt much you can do about it except wait for the next shoe to drop...

Maybe you should have gone to college after all  ;)

  16. More adenoidal evidence from my part of the US. I live in Jersey and when the F-bodies where around in the 1990's when I first started driving, nearly every single one I saw had female driving them. Same with the Mustang. The reason for this was the insurance....When I got my 98 GT, I was paying 2400 a year with a perfect record, living at home with my parents. I tried calling around to find a cheaper rate, and I got estimates from other companies of 5-7K A YEAR! Of course women dont pay as much for insurance, and at rates that high, not many men bought F-bodies or Mustangs, thus prob adding to Ricer Revolution that started at the same time ;) One futher thing about insurance, I'm waiting on my 06 GT replace my SVT Focus I got...and I'm 31 now, and my insurance is only going up 200 more a year....retarted huh? I hate this place at times....

Another story, when the Camaro went out of production, Staten Island declared a Day of Morning, since the IROC-Z was the Favorate of the Guidos that came from SI down the to Jersey Shore. :D

  17. Variable engine displacement, first full-size hybrid coming down the line. GM knows their game in this market. I'm more curious to see the new pickups- the whole future of the company hinges on that one product.

They wont save GM....I'm gonna laugh when all of their big SUV's flop
