In some plants they do everything the other trades can do, electrical, fabrication, hydraulics and welding machine repair. (The real general maint.). Some plants had Union approved training programs for becoming a W/R. This consists of the classes discussed before. Granted, there were a few "friends" that should have never been allowed in the trade but I've seen this in all skilled classifications. There is a science that goes hand in hand with the W/R trade. That is why ford has welding engineers.
