  1. I actually bought a 2006 Freestyle from a local Ford dealer that was repurchased by Ford as a lemon. It had 20-something thousand miles on it when I bought it in 08. I made the dealership give me the 100,000 mile extended warranty when I bought the car. It's a Limited with way more bells and whistles on it than we would have bought normally, but it was a great deal, as you can imagine. I was given a list of everything that was repaired or replaced on the car and a list of all the former owner's complaints. We've had no issues whatsoever with the Freestyle.

  2. I really like your car! I have an '08 AWD SEL V6 and have been very satisfied with it. Now don't take this the wrong way because if you like it (or had it installed yourself) that is fine, but personally I don't like the pinstripe on the car. It looks sort of "70's or 80's" to me. That is just my opinion. I know I should probably keep things like that to myself, but I just thought I would give you my opinion.

I know what you mean. The pinstripe was the first thing I noticed at the dealer. I didn't see it in the internet photos, but it really jumped out at me when I saw it on the lot. That being said, I'm used to it now and don't mind. But, yeah, if I had my choice I'd go without the stripe.

  3. there havent been any issues with the six speeds in the original fusions. the only ones with an "issue" are the 6spds in the 2010's.

enjoy the car! the v6 has some pretty good power if you get the rpms high enough.

The tranny seems very slick. I haven't had occasion to really wring out the engine, yet. What is amazing to me after five years in the F-150 is the handling. It really handles well. Also, I don't seem to have any perception of speed. Everything is so quiet and smooth that I have to be very careful not to drive WAY to fast. And you know red cars get pulled over more often ...

  4. Add me to the list of "have the Freestyle and love it." My wife drives a 2006 Limited. I firmly believe THE issue with testers is the CVT. You simply have to get used to the way it behaves. It takes a week or two to understand how the thing works and then you say, "Oh, I get it." Driving it is almost like having your accelerator hooked to the tranny instead of the engine.

I'm interested to learn about the "super secret button" under the pedal. Now I've got to find a reason to borrow the car!

If you want a freeway cruiser, I've never driven a better one. It is absolutely rock solid and smooth at 70-80 mph. I could drive it all day like that ... and get at least 25 mpg.

  5. My wife averages about 23.6 or so on the in-car calculation. I've done 25 mpg on an interstate road trip. We're pleased with the mileage based on the size of the vehicle.

I think the weight of the car has alot to do with mileage. On a one-hour rural road trip, I got about 1.5 mpg better going 70 than I did going 55. At 55, the CVT would rev the engine on hills. At 70, it doesn't. Keeping your momentum up really seems to help mileage.

  6. You remind me of the Comical Ally the Iraqi T-Stag, XK sales fell in November.

    November 2007

2007 XK 313 Sales 2006 XK 324 Sales Your sale have dropped by a massive 11 customers.

X Type sale are booming this November 270 to 298 up a massive 10.4% all down to the extra 28 customers that bought the X type tell that to Lincoln.

I'm just wondering what happens when Jag sales get down to zero. Maybe if they sell one the month after they can report sales up 100 percent.

  7. I used a 76 Maverick sedan for my test as well. I recall the front end constantly squeaked on that car as well - I thought it was from my brother driving through a couple of ditches that are on the side of the road escaping the Police one time.

It was slow, but was a great little sedan as well.

Mine was another 76 Maverick, four-door, 302 V8. Another squeaky front end for me, too. Once met a parade and rode against the flow all the way through it in that car.

  8. An update for those who are interested:

I called the salesman again Tuesday and told him we were hung up on the "reacquired" part but were still thinking about it. After hearing nothing from us in two days, he called my wife and told her the general manager needed to move some cars before the end of the month and was throwing in the 100,000 mile bumper-to-bumper Ford ESP at no cost. She bit. We pick it up Saturday. Btw, the car only has 14k miles on it, so it's still under the factory warranty as well.

I expect to be pilloried roundly, but it was too good a deal to pass up.

  9. 'tim kakouris',

I'm kinda getting the feeling from this car (b/c of the list of complaints) that the owner was just trying to come up with problems to get the car repurchased. The buyback report says that Ford could not duplicate the problems the owner was experiencing, which leads me to believe either a) buyer's remorse, or B) an obsessive complusive owner. I mean, if the transmission was falling out, the report would say that it was fixed, or replaced. Instead, Ford can't even figure out what the guy was talking about.

I'm just trying to think it through. 6-cylinder.

a friend of mine works on these cars for chrysler. many of them truly have issues, but a substantial portion of them are buyers that have buyers remorse, and continue to push until the car is reacquired.

more often than not, the issues just don't get fixed quick enough by regular mechanics. once it's bought back, an extremely experienced mechanic is then used to get to the bottom of the problem. at least in the case of my friend, the car doesn't get put back into service until the problem is 'fixed'. sometimes, the problem doens't get 'fixed' because it was an owner issue, not a mechanical one.

obviously, i do not know if ford goes through this same process, so i am just assuming they work in a similar fashion to dcx.

  10. Made a similar post in Tech Talk, but I was afraid it would go unnoticed.

Does anyone have info about "reacquired" vehicles? Are they always bad news?

My wife and I are looking at a used 2006 Freestyle that was "reacquired" by Ford under the lemon law. The salesman said these undergo a very good inspection regimen that checks out all the customer issues. The only issues noted on the report are auto trans downshift error, strange handling noise, accel/decel error and broken rear glass. Two of these sound like issues with the CVT to me, but they could have been from someone who didn't know how much different it is from a regular auto trans. Ford can't help it if someone's window gets broken.

Any experience with "reacquired" cars here?

  12. My wife and I would love to test drive a Mazda5. We think it would be a perfect step up from her Focus wagon. However, there is no Mazda dealer within 50 miles of us. I'm a bit hesitant to be at least 50 miles from the closest dealer who can perform warranty work/service the car.

Put one on the Ford lot, and we'll drive 12 miles tomorrow to see it.

We'll probably end up in a Freestyle, assuming it lives.
