  1. This is trades procedure at Sterling. Production I am not so sure. Usually, when they lay off, it goes one of two ways. If the lay-off is volume related, the employee either gets the street, or a production job, depending where they came from (hired as trade vs. hired as production and became apprenticed) If the lay-off is technology related, they go by way of GEN pool. I feel the same way about having folks idled while offering 12's to the rest. I believe it is local language that covers this and therefore is subject to the locals leadership giving in. While this is upsetting, I believe there is a bigger bitch to be had......Van Dyke has contractors in doing V/D's trades work (expansion). The Millwrights at Van Dyke are well able to do this work....... why aren't they??????????????????
  2. Why would they take ANY time out of their busy schedules to help some one who is obviously the farthest thing away from a CUSTOMER. As far as a shareholder goes- you mean to tell me with all the BS you blow about Ford........ you own stock????????????? Sounds self conflicting to me.
  3. OTISFORDSUCKS: I need to thank you. As a direct result of your efforts, I too am going to make my next buying experience into a vacation at OTIS FORD. Please post directions, phone #'s, website, and or email address to further aid. Also, do you have a salesman of choice? I will be sure to let them know that I heard of them through you. I am sure they'll be glad that you are helping OTIS out with your advertisements!!!!!! So OTISFORDSUCKS, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!! P.S.- I can see a bright future here for you, OTIS may secure you full time - who knows - the possibilities are endless. Even if I'm wrong, not to worry- with your spell checking skills, you could go pro in a minute. Choose from any of the fortune 500 companies. With your depth, you could command any pay at any one of them, Ford included. Hell, maybe Billie would give you his desk!!!! Again, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!! P.S.S. Thank you in advance for spell checking this. I am truly blessed.
  4. If, after you became vested(guaranteed a pension) with Ford (which takes 5 yrs) , you changed careers, should you not be entitled to a pension from your new employer if they offer one? I don't agree with everything UAW, but the idea of not being able to draw a pension from where you work is ridiculous!
  5. Sterling reported a 60.1% "yes" vote. From the talk on the floor, I gotta say- IT IS A LIE!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. GM and Ford may have increased quality in the past 20 years- was this done without the UAW? It must have been salary that rolled up their sleeves and did the work themselves while the UAW guy sat watching, drinking coffee, maybe balancing his checkbook? HAHAHAHAHAHA. Harry, you may not be trying to be funny, but you got me laughing!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. I didn't realize that fighter jets and tanks were available to the public. Do workers at fighter jet and tank factories buy cheaper, inferior tanks and jets from other manufacturers? Should the guy working at the bread factory have to buy bread from the 'thrift' store? The more you post this ridiculous shit, the more people will realize that you are just an ignorant fool! P.S. - My computer and service may not be union, but the money came from a union wage. Yours probably got paid as a result of your wage - would you have that wage if it wasn't for the union and it's workers? Probably not!
  8. I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that your wit may well be your best asset. Why don't you enlighten us about YOUR fantastic life and degree intead, so all of us can see how very inferior we are to someone whom we should obviously be looking up to. By the way, the licensing is happening company wide, so they must be getting rid of electricians at all locations, huh?
  9. It really depends on where in the plant you work. I've had production jobs tucked away in the plant where you shouldn't see them. Also, if things run smooth and you don't work with dogdicks, again you should not see them. As far as the Pres goes, they have stipulations about entering the plant. They work at the Local and cannot enter the plant at will. (IIRC, management and plant chairman can bring them in)
  10. You use the word "worker" so loosely, I wonder if you have forgotten, or have ever known who does the actual work for the company. The fact that GM has the costs that it has is somehow the workers doing? WTF? I understand we must be competitive in todays world, but without it's workforce, overpaid or not, you (ALL salary) would be DEAD IN THE WATER!
  11. The "good" can be identified as not accepting delphi's "answer" to fix the companies wrong. Delphi didn't get into trouble yesterday, nor should they expect to fix it overnight with such drastic measures aimed only at hourly ranks. Could they not come up with something a little more reasonable? The sacrifice being asked here is a bit much for any one to swallow. What would you do if your SALARY was cut in half? Not to mention loss of whatever bennnnies they decide to cut also. Like Wildo said, the "scabs" would not be able meet obligations to GM. It's the little things that experience dictate that make the difference between making a quota or not. Also, if you think things like attendance are a problem now, what will you have at $12.50? Then you have to deal with the turnover- the plants will become stepping stones to better jobs. GM will go BK b4 strike fund runs out. Nothing for management to carry on, except a resume. This isn't the newspapers- get a clue. :P Do you really belive that when costs for basic living go up that a workers pay should stay still? Perhaps we should go back to $5 a day, huh? And finally why is there anything for the UAW president to "accomplish"? This companies problems stems from it's "excretion" from it's parent GM from the get go. These things needed to be addressed by the COMPANY from the start, not in BK. The UAW and it's president do NOT make these decisions, so please get a clue!!! :P
  12. I know many of you believe the government will not do anything to slow, stop, or reverse the current trend of our industries downward spiral, and you may be correct. For arguements sake, imagine Delphi turning out worse case for the worker, okay? Now, if that is to happen the industry as a whole is subject to the same ideals , right? So if the whole (domestic) auto industry goes in the dumper, doesn't the feds kitty start to dry up also? (last time I looked, those parasites command the LARGEST piece of pie out of our checks, hands down) This may be a drop in the bucket to them, I don't know, correct me if I am wrong, but hasn't our society been based off of our industry from the get go? If we fall, I believe others will fall also (this is already happening, isn't it?) and at some point, they (feds) will have to - 1) take the same % while accepting less money (mmmm - don't sound reasonable with their track record) 2) add injury to insult and try to squeeze more % out of a already beat down income and at that point, a completely flogged economy. 3) change our trade policies to protect and benefit this countries workers first, not last. I feel as we go, so does our government, and by saying we, I ain't talkin just the auto sector, I'm talkin all of us. If your money comes from this country, private or public, it pertains to you also. Our country is quickly changing it's definition, and after the dust settles, I hope our kids, and their kids can survive in a place where the past (present) sold off our integrity to please shareholders. So enough of my ranting, let's hear what'chall think!
  13. TCAPs local contract may have language that is forcing apprentice requisitions, OR TCAP could be getting cheap labor- Ford National picks up half of the wages paid throughout the apprenticeship (straight time only, IIRC) Or maybe it stays open
  14. Yes, you are correct GIS IS result of collective bargaining, which supplemented employees laid off. GEN on the other hand keeps employees on active status, not drinking beer at home as some may think! <_<
  15. Look, if you want to take the D.N. or the freep for gospel, um okay, I almost forgot how very credible they are. Now, if you really believe that the UAW is alone responsible for GEN , you are not only stupid, but ignorant too. GEN, like I said has been something the COMPANY has put together to maintain the workforce during slow times ( it still is a cyclical business ). And it is the COMPANY who pays and runs GEN- not the UAW! Believe whatever you like, but I stand by my first post. The WSJ article is interesting, and although it doesn't pertain to GEN, it does point to what I originally posted. See, without the transplants capturing market share like they have, GM would have much more capacity. Capacity that would need a workforce- perhaps a workforce ready to go - one that the COMPANY had on the back burner- NOW DO YOU SEE???? As we all know, that scenario never materialized. If the Comany knew 20 years ago what they know now- GEN never would have been- UAW or not GEN is a COMPANY program. And change by the way, is something the auto industry has never been or will be without
  16. This article fails to relay to readers that the job banks were in part created to maintain an experienced work force in slow times. The fact that it protects the union ranks is secondary. 20 years ago who would know the workforce needs? GEN has certainly has been of benefit to hourly people, no doubt, but I feel GEN, from the companies viewpoint has been an insurance policy to not only have a reserve of experience on hand, but to also curb the possibility of the transplants snapping up the laid off workers.
  17. 11/21 was the day that the new "rules" took effect, supposedly. They were in the "shack" and didn't bother anyone around lunchtimes and shift start and end, but outside of these times I heard they were taking names. I feel so much safer. I have no idea how I have survived to this point without these guards giving safe passage. What a great idea , the employee morale will most certainly benefit from all this nonsense :P
  18. It's not good enough that the average autoworker croaks within a year of retiring, I guess. The greedy people who want to go at 30 years need to get with the program and work till you are DEAD to help the company out a little. Of course I'm joking. 30 and out is being eyeballed for the chopping block, for sure, and this is very sad. Our forefathers bargained hard for this along with every other damn bennie we got. Just because times are hard right now, they are bending us over left and right. Take, take, take. When things get better, we'll NEVER get these things back as quick as they are being yanked from under us. DAMN IT, DAMN IT, DAMN IT !
