  1. Taking its toll on who exactly? Ford is making tons of money selling these crossovers that "all look the same". I'm also tired of hearing that from people. In my opinion, there's more variety to design than ever before in the history of the automobile, even within vehicle types. Most buyers today would be confused when trying to tell apart most vehicles from the 50's and 60's and would likely tell you they "all looked the same" back then too. It's simply a matter of what you were raised with.

As for who is and isn't buying them, frankly, the market of people who are buying compact crossovers is a lot bigger than that of "traditionalists" who would want a Contitental-type vehicle as you described, so your complaint there would likely fall on deaf ears at any automaker, not just Ford. The proof is in the pudding. How many compact crossovers are on the market now? How many full-size sedans that come in the array of configurations you described?

And one last note: having people talk about your vehicle doesn't mean people will actually buy it. Lots of people talk about the Volt...

But as far as the crossovers go, can the people buying them actually take care of them?. I mean maintain them, keep them clean. The simple answer is NO. Do you ever look at how people treat their cars? Brand new $30,000+ cars caked with mud, dirt, scratched up and dented in. yeah real classy. Shows you how disposable society has become as a whole doesn't it?

The crossover market caters to the novice or the typical everyday car consumer we all can agree on that but I just don't think the crossover will be a long term wise investment. The limited run vehicle would and so would the price.

  2. You're talking about a very expensive proposition with as yet undetermined demand. I think their current plan of consistently improving their existing products while expanding into more predictable markets (like MKC) bodes far better for a brand trying to ride out tough times.

I know, but I think this whole crossover thing is starting to take it's toll. Face it, all of the manufacturers vehicles design cars that all look the same now. You need a distinctive brand with a stand out vehicle to get people talking about the product and the brand as a whole and personally; some little crossover isn't gonna cut it. Sorry. but traditionalists like myself won't buy a compact crossover or any crossover for that matter.

I'm just tired of getting confused by which one is which anymore. Irregardless of who makes what or where.

  3. So you think during a precarious economy is the most ideal time to launch an expensive flagship vehicle?

Depends on if there is an underlying demand for one. Seems to me that irregardless of the price of gas lately, People still seem to buy those so-called "gas guzzling SUV's and pick-up trucks" Why not add a classic, modernized car to the list of choices? Even if it's a limited production run of several years or so.(maybe more) I'm sure some people, even collectors would jump at the opportunity and make sure you give them plenty of options just like back in the day. 2 door coupes, 4 door sedans, your choice of motors, transmissions. Interior seating. Suspension choices, extended wheelbases, etc. the whole nine yards.

  4. The precarious nature of the entire economy right now in general is basically what is in play. I don't want to see Lincoln entirely disappear but it's time to revisit the glory days of the past in order to have a healthier future. That means revisiting a Continental revival with the right look, the right drivetrain, and the right price. Right now! Lincoln is a middle of the road brand in my opinion, however if I had the money and the chance I'd buy a new Lincoln product most certainly.

  5. Couldn't agree more with you Len, Detroit or as I usually affectionately call it D-TOILET created this mess for themselves. Why should we pick up the check everytime they continue to screw everybody and steal everyone else's money? Why???

All this so called re-development of Downtown is nothing but a bunch of horseshit covered with fool's gold. With all the crime that goes on down in that city, why would anyone in their right state-of-mind continue to support that city's economy. I've been boycotting them for years. I have zero reason to go down there. None.

Oh, and by the way...to you sports fans. Just keep buying those overinflated $35 Tigers hats and shirts right there at the good ol' ball park...Don't cry to me or anybody else why they didn't make it to the World Series (or lose again)or why you can't pay your bills, put food on the table or gas in your vehicle. Same with the Lions, I left the bandwagon years ago...The football team outright stinks from the top down. The NFL in general has turned into a league of a bunch of overpaid, spoiled unsportsmanlike assholes who are way, way overpaid especially compared to the past.

  6. It wouldn't work today, but a variant of that early 80s commercial where Caddy owners couldn't find their cars carries the thought. A sort of, "Oh, you bought a BMW 3-Series? How original." approach.

I would like to see Lincoln re-create a commercial I think I saw on youtube once where there was people riding in an old 70's Lincoln Continental or Mercury Marquis emphazing the smooth, quiet-ride effect. I'm sure that video is still out there. Maybe that will draw in some buyers only because of the ride factor. Who knows.

  7. Also take into consideration that some Generation X'ers and Baby Boomers still act like "millenials" especially when it comes down to their decision-making of buying a vehicle. Me, I'm old school. I'm sure very few young hipsters out there even know how to drive a RWD vehicle, with a carbureated motor, let alone what the term "3 on the tree" stands for.

  8. Bradley Manning wears the uniform......and women's clothes.

Major Hassan also wears / wore the uniform and he will hopefully get a date with the needle..

Both are complete idiots and just wearing a uniform does not give you special status or exempt you from common sense or current events.

I wouldn't mind having Major Hassan be sent to the electric chair, televise it and send a real message!

  9. I can see it now being that I am sometimes called a proffitt... I can see that ignorant, stressed-out yuppie-type people will forget to take the device off their wireless chargers in their new vehicles and suddenly the vehicle will "spontaneously combust"

Gee, when that happens who will get the blame? You guessed it... The automakers.

This idea needs to be shut down just because it sounds stupid from the get go. Enough distracted driving anyway.

  10. What Orr said was the truth. Plain and simple. If you look at it from a non-political, non-personal spectrum. it is fact that the city has always had this arrogant condescending "we're better than you" attitude. And guess what? That came back and knocked them on their ass.

It's astonishing to continue to see such complacency in the entire region. Drive around and see the boarded up businesses, houses, the cars, trucks, boats, and other toys up for sale at such ridiculous high prices.

And the news media still loves to feed horseshit to it's readers and viewers that "the economy is getting better..."

  11. I thought I was the only one who noticed that! So, you are a Robert Conrad fan! Black Sheep was good! He and Mr Gordon were in the western series. called Wild, Wild West! Will Smith did the remake!

Yeah, he's the last of the old school tough guys, like Clint Eastwood. Chuck Norris, and the like. The part he played on the mini-series Centennial was great. I just got done watching that DVD set myself, if anybody hasn't seen that in years. Find it and watch it. Also had an uncredited role in "Moving Violations" which was a funny movie in itself.

The movie remake from the 1990's stunk. I'm a fan of the original 1960's series.

  12. I look at it similarly to the school field days anymore. No more ribbons for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place anymore, everyone gets a participation ribbon. Instead of pushing the best to be the best, whether in sports or education, they are simply trying to push everyone to be average. There is no encouragement or perks for doing good, as such perks and encouragement will hurt the feelings of the kid just going through the motions. Maybe someone should light a fire under these kids rear.

American society has simply dumbed down everything to prop up the mediocre. Must say thank you to all these idiot special interest groups pushing their agenda's. This to me is simply one example of how American society is going in the wrong direction.

Couldn't agree more. Lets face it. The college education system is just another ponzi scheme racket to begin with. What's with all these public universities hiking tuition rates year after year after year? Build more useless, underutilized buildings and keeping a bunch of deadbeat "tenured" staff on the payrolls? While gouging the students with those tuition costs, and college loans they are forced to pay back?! Getting that college degree and not even finding a job? There is trouble on the horizon and when the shit hits the fan at some point down the road it won't be pretty any way you look at it.

The public schools are in no better shape either. Same shit, different path. But this time, they'll think of ways of raising taxes, yes... This is being discussed in Michigan's legislature to raise the sales tax a penny or two just to allocate that 1 or 2% hike and use that money toward "education". Excuse me, but where have been the revenues in the lottery being going the past 40+ years? Same reasons, keep unqualified, useless "tenured" employees sucking off the teet of the taxpayer, etc, etc...

In my opinion, if you are not actively participating in the educational realm of things, Why should the taxpayers continue to be forced to pay for this when in some areas the school districts have been dissolved, on the verge of a takeover due to incompetence. What's going on here? It should be strictly based on an "opt in or opt out" basis and that's it. Nothing more, nothing less, no questions asked, no explanation given.
