  1. Has anyone heard about changes to the 2017 MKC?

     

    A lot of changes are going to the MKZ and the Ford Escape and you would think some of them might make it into the MKC.

     

    The one I would really like to see is the future 9 speed transmission, but I think that is a little ways out.

     

    What have you heard?

  2. I can't believe they are NOT putting in Sync 3 in the 2016 Lincoln MKX! It will cost them 20% of their sales.

    The 2016 EDGE has it, but not the 2016 MKX???

    If they want Lincoln to reestablish itself as a premier brand they need to at least have the newest technology at the same time as Ford if not before.

    Lets see what they do on the roll out of the new 9 and 10 speed transmissions.

I checked in with the Lincoln Concierge on what changes are being made to the 2016 MKC and was told that in additon to new colors they are changing out the current 2.0 liter with the new 2.0 Liter engine. It will is a total new design with a little more horsepower. They are also going to up the horsepower in the 2.3 liter enigne. I didn't ask what impact these changes will have to the gas milage.

     

    Sync3 will also be added.

     

    I keep hoping for the new 9 speed transmission that is being co-developed with GM, but its not there yet. I wonder when it will hit the market?

  4. Production dates probably slipped a little. Instead of 4th quarter 2015, you may be looking at 1st quarter 2016. Production for 2017 model year can start as soon as January 2016 for example.

     

     

     

    Probably... depends on the exact timing of the launch.

     

    The 9 speed FWD auto development is lead by GM so GM models will get first crack at using it. It's rumored that it will debut with the next Buick Lacrosse, which is due in 2017 as well.

     

    The 10 speed RWD auto development is lead by Ford so Ford models will get first crack at using it. It's confirmed that it will first be used on the F-150.

  5. I test drove the MKC yesterday and was very impressed. It was the 2 liter with FWD. I was impressed on how quite it was and the lack of torque steer. I have driven many of it competitors and it campairs very we'll.

     

    I plan to take the wife to see it this weekend....

  6. I don't think a Mustang based Lincoln would sell (beyond the die hard Ford people).

     

    If you think about who Lincoln would be competing with; Audi, BMW, Mercedes Benz, etc. the people who buy those kind of cars are not going to buy a re-badged, or tweaked Mustang. And Lincoln has stated that they need to have different products from Ford and it doesn't meet that goal. So if we look at the Audi TT, MB SL350, G37 Coupe and other cars in this class Lincoln need something different.

     

    I like the idea of a EcoBoost V6 with ~400hp, AWD, paddle shifters, etc. Hi tech, refined, a head on competitor with other cars in the class. Something that could bring new blood to Ford and Lincoln.

     

    If you want a Mustang, great value for the money, by it.

    I would have though they would be further along than they are.

     

    My vote for a new model would be for a sports car that would be competitive with cars like the Audi TT, Infinity G35 Coupe, Mercedes Benz SLK.

     

    Ecoboost engine, 4WD, paddle shifters, 4 wheel independent submission, something totally different that a Mustang.

I think the next generation Mercury Cougar should not be Ford Mustang based (people who want that should buy a Mustang) but a car that interest people who want a sporty car with modern technology like four wheel independent suspension. Something that can compete with imports like the Audi A5, BMW 335, Infiniti G37, and Mercedes CLK with a kick ass price.

     

    General specs that I would like to see for a next generation Mercury Cougar are:

    • 2 door coupe

    • 3.5L V6 w/260 HP base and 3.5L EcoBoost V6 w/365 horsepower option

    • Six-speed SelectShift Automatic™ transmission with paddle activation

    • Four wheel independent suspension with AWD (all models – don’t offer front wheel drive)

    • ~108 -110” wheel base

    • ~182 overall length

    • ~54” high

    • 17” and optional 18” wheels

     

    As far as styling is concerned it should look like the some of the new designs that Ford is working on. I like the one I have attached as an example.

  9. I had a friend that had one and I drove it from Albuquerque to southern New Mexico (about a 3 hour drive). It ran well and got great gas mileage. I also remember when you could buy one new on sale for $1775.

  10. I found the Ford 2008 fleet showroom site and it looks like a couple of new changes for 2008:

     

    Ford Sync™ voice-activated communications and entertainment system, optional, and the standard SIRIUS Satellite Radio. It doesn't look like the new 3.7 liter V6 is going to make the 2008 model.

     

    There is not any discussion about improved brakes

    There is room for improvement, they need to shave 10 feet off the stopping distnce. About a 6 to 7% improvement to be in the middle of the pack.

  12. Hi Swizco,

     

    It's been some time since you've updated us on the expected changes for '08. Any word on what specifically will be improved for the braking? i.e. tires, brake lines, pad, rotors, shocks/struts, ABS tuning. Plus some have speculated that maybe minor mid-production changes have taken place. Any confirmation on that? I had been entertaining the idea of putting in an order in May which means it would be built in June. I'm guessing June will be the last month Edges are produced before it shuts down for retooling.

     

    I've read so many negative comments I'm almost surely gonna wait for the '08 at this point but I still need to know.
