  1. Not quite on topic, but related:

The Excursion failed because it had too many things standard. I think it would have done a lot better with an available "utility" configuration without a 3rd row seat, vinyl seats and rubber floors. Axe out some other options that you normally wouldn't see in a work truck and I think it may have become popular with some contractors and such as a 4x4 work truck to get to the big bad muddy work sites.

Day late and a dollar short.

I do agree with you though. Gotta love an interior that you can hose out. :D

this always amazes me. When Ford launched the truck, they defended its size by saying it would be for contractors, logging crews, miners, etc.

But they never offered a work truck trim level.

  2. Ford is decontenting all of their models.

Case in point I have a 2004 F150, XLT trim. It has far less luxury items than the 98 XLT I had before it. Little things like the interior lights in the footwells and on the doors.

How about getting locks on glove boxes? Don't see that anymore. Floor mats are super thin and super cheap. The prices keep going up and the content keeps going down.

At some point, even the most loyal Ford buyers will wake up and start to consider another brand,

  3. It just seems like a no brainer to me. Mustang is wildly successful. Mopar and GM are soming up with competition. Isn't it time to get a Cougar out that returns it to it's '67-70 roots? <_<

I thought Ford was committed to saving Mercury and coming out with exciting products. Well here is a chance - bring back the Cougar as an upscale version of the Mustang. Bring back the Eliminator positioned between the Mustang GT and Shelby GT.

Bring it back and I'll buy one - I prominse B)

please don't say "no brainer". it implies that we have no brains if we disagree with you, which I do.

Firstly, yeah the Stang is successful. But for how long? Now with the Challenger and Camaro coming just how many 2 door RWD sports cars can be sold? Mustang sales will probably go down with those new competitors and by adding a Cougar... you lower those sales even more.

And you think it should be upscale? Just how upscale? For a luxury performer, I'd just as soon go for an M5.

  4. He is speaking of a mod based 302. Keep up with the times. The bore spacing on the mod motors SUCK in relation to the valves.

keep with the times? then why must it be 302 cu in? Sounds more like living in the past.

  5. I think that the only way to stop a lot of this crap that's going on is to unify all union workers. Including the teamsters. With that type of unity any work stopppage would get recognized at the top. All of the cheap junk from overseas would not get transported around the country and get an opporotunity to get sold. You can tell by the current regime that they could care less about the AMERICAN car companys. All they care about is fattening their own pockets!

    sounds like a general strike

  6. True- they offer fewer choices...and increasing market share. ;) Ever visited a clothing store and walked out empty handed because you couldn't make up your mind? We got a lot of that going on in this product line.

fair point. I for 1 do like the choice still offered by Ford, GM and Dodge.

I don't like being told that there are only 2 trim levels. Engine A with trim 1 and engine B with trim 2. Oh tyou want engine B? Well then you have to trade up.

Maybe too much choice is a bad thing, but at the same time I do not appreciate Japanese one-size-fits-all option packages.

Maybe there is a happy medium. I'm just not sure where that is.

And yeah, it's got to be hell for the dealers trying to stock all the models.

  7. You accused richard of not planning for the future ....he did! He was promised a pension as were millions of other americans . 401K's and mutual funds for employees are a fairly recent thing. Now Ford and many other companies are trying to cut the pensions? How bout if they take back your 401K when you leave? Would you be an ass for asking for it back?....After all you dont work there anymore and youre not contributing?!?

what are we discussing here ebritt? Pensions or Employees offering management advice?

2 different discussions. Or are you just so angry at what I said that you are looking for anything to fight over? Even if it detracts from the continuity of the conversation?

  8. We've got a great little truck in the Ranger. It's got a golden reputation for durability and reliability. It's priced right. Yes, it's an older design, but it's found a lot of friends over the years- and continues to be competitive.

The problem? I'm counting 27 base versions of this truck. Honestly, how hard is this- 2 box sizes, two cab configurations, 2 or 4 wheel-drive, three engines, shift it yourself or let the truck do it.

Seven Trim Levels? How many do we need? It's gotten to the point, from a dealership perspective, that you can't even figure out what to stock. Worse, you'd need to carry a few hundred just to adequately cover all the bases.

And consider the customer. Too many choices often means it's difficult to make a decision- and we all know what that means, right?

Sooo.... lets make our sensible little truck... sensible. To order, and to buy.

choice is something the Ranger offers that the Japanese do not.

J-150 - Where are you "from"?

the land of fast fingers, and not spell/grammar checking my work prior adding my reply.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Confucius says: Those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it!

Exactly. There is the past. Let's not repeat it.

  10. Damn J-150!!!....What the hell is wrong with you? Did you have a big bowl of "Jackass Flakes" for breakfast this morning? You should have a little more resapect for people than accusing them of being worthless becasue they finally retired.

    What an ass!

I'm not saying the retirees are worthless. But the ideas are antequated.

I guess if you want to see Ford bankruptcy happen sooner we can embrace the ideologies from the 60s and 70s when there was no competition from a superior competitor in a stronger financial situation.

So if I'm an ass for not wanting to live in the past what does that make those of you that do want to live in the past?

  11. And this is supposed to make me want to buy more Fords in the future? After more than 20 years of loyalty to Ford? You really should think twice before making such posts as you did above.

dude, if you're going to buy a transplant, you've already made up your mind. The opinions of a couple of people that may or may not work at STAP wouldn't affect you one way or the other.

  12. they put a second mortgage on their house to buy a truck?

Anyone else see something wrong with that?

As far as Ford screwing people on the Powerstroke... that really puts the F-Series in long term trouble. Yes it still holds the record but expect the new Toyotas (3/4 ton with Hino diesel) to take a bite out of that.

And it wont be long before Nissan has a 3/4ton diesel ttruck.

Now is not the time for Ford to be pissing off consumers.

  13. the KR leather could be working both ways. Its not letting the heat through which means its heating up more inside the seat.

The heating elements could be overheating as a result which is why they won't stay on.

Like I said, I have never heard this complaint with the leather in the Lariat and FX4. If the heating element is operating within spec, it must be the KR leather. I cant think of any other car/truck on the road with leather seating surfaces as thick as the KR leather is so its tough to compare.

Let us know how you make out.
