  1. Um, actually, they sorta do. Ford licensed that Hybrid technology from Toyota for the Escape and Mariner. I don't know if was a flat fee, or a per unit cost.

Ford developed their own hybrid system, it shares nothing with the HSD. There is a cross licensing agreement that also allows Toyota access to some of Ford's patents (Ford has over 100 hybrid patents of their own).

Ford and Toyota are still the only two manufactures with a full hybrid system, though Hondas has gotten better.

  2. The absence of them is, however, something of an annoyance; seeing that I had a '92 Tempo with one, and a '98 Contour and '00 Sable without. I would rather Ford include them, but I'm not going to consider it a major shortcoming if they don't.

The odd thing is Ford does include them on some models, but just not on the NA version.

NA Mazda Tribute has a remote fuel door, the Escape and Mariner built on the same line do not. The Escape/Maverick however outside the US DOES have a fuel door.

There have been a couple people on escape-central who have retrofitted their Escapes with remote fuel doors from the UK (The door itself is different from the Tribute, the rest of the tribute mechanism can be used in the conversion, just the door itself needs to come from the UK).

  3. Dispite it's "love it or hate it" styling I see the 300 continues to out sell the 500 in December.

I cannot fathom how someone would choose a 300 or Charger (The Magnum is nice)...

I was surprised to see the Freestyle whalloped the Magnum for sales...

Combined the D3 trio marginally outsold the LX trio, though in fairness the Charger was not available for the entire year, and would likely have pushed the LX trio over the D3s for sales.

  4. I'm assuming the Mercury Freestyle (Meta One) will be at the same time as the refresh of the 500/Montego. If the Meta One looks anything like the Concept, I'd like to see the Montego be a sedan version of it, such that the Montego/Meta One are traditional Sedan/Wagon and substantially different than the 500.

  5. God bless our employer for never keeping up with the times. God forbid they offer it for say 250.00 as a way to build customers. No one will take it at 850.00 and next year they will drop the option because " no body wanted it". Then they will wonder why Toyota is selling a quater million Sirius units a year. So stupid!

Check how much Honda wants for their XM - Ford's price is competitive... OP check on escape-central.com, there are posts there about people getting the unit cheaper, but I think most have ended up installing it themselves.

  6. This is weird. I got a letter last week from my mortgage holder, saying a DHL courier lost a computer tape with mine and thousands of other's mortgage info on it..same deal with the 1-800 number for the credit agency. Strange.

I'm assuming your lender is Lasalle Bank/ABN AMRO. If you have not heard yet the lost computer tape was recovered. Just thought you'd want to know.

Missing data on 2 million LaSalle Bank mortage customers found (Detroit News)

  7. Okay, Blue Oval insiders...this is your cue to start letting some onfo out. A Mercury getting performance goodies is DEFINITELY news nowadays....

Of course the question is also whether it is a Mercury, or a mule for the Lincoln D3 car.

  8. Its a Ford. They want american truck buyers.Plus i think it looks better.

I think the Ranger looks better too, it's also the dealer network... The Tribute has a better warranty but is outsold by the Mariner, and handily outsold by the Escape...

Funny thing was when I was in hawaii Mazdas were EVERYWHERE... I saw more B series in two weeks than I had my entire life before...

  9. My opinion is that the EUCD platform underpinning the Freelander can be profitably and quickly adapted for the next Escape. What they do with the pricing is up to them. If Mazda is dropping the Tribute, EUCD makes the most sense.

My understanding as to the primary reason Ford Europe is standardizing around EUCD is the engine configuration (Being able to accomodate the Volvo Engines).

If Ford NA is not getting a C1 Focus anytime soon, and as EUCD is an adaptation of C1, why switch away from CD3 for NA? The same arguments that could be made for EUCD being adapted for the Freelander could be made for CD3 already having been adapted for the Edge.

Perhaps a Mini-CD3 makes more sense for an Escape/Focus replacement than C1/EUCD...
