  1. This comment absolutely split my sides. "I think the Swedish government needs to start checking the meatball supply for hallucinogens...like, now."
  2. What was Fords, GMs Toyotas etc., percent of retail sales? Did I miss that somewhere?
  3. Absolutely the worst way to treat a potential customer is to not let you sit in the car. Riverhead Ford/Mercury, where I bought my Freestyle was about as nice and accomadating as anyone could expect. I would definitly buy again from them.
  4. Look again. The door was not removed. It sprung open from impact and the whole freakin front seat almost came out.
  5. OMG! Ford outsold Toyota for April?????? Yippee...yippee... yippee...yippee...Just add another 100 "yippees" and that's how I feel. That's better than sex!!!
  6. It's hard to believe that the residual on a 3 year old F-150 is only 32% compared to 39.8% for the Silerado.
  7. I'm surprised this thread hasn't gone a few pages so far. Where's the outrage? No one seems to care, least of all, Congress. Unbelievable. Shameful. We have truly lost our way. Our military spends FIVE times the amount as the number 2 nation and we place all our emphasis on the consumer and give the workers job to other countries.
  8. Did you REALLY read the article? The man said that "PRODUCT CREATION" is what really counts and a far more important link in the chain than where the car is assembled. Was the Mustang "created", that is designed in Japan? Of course not. Was the Camry "created" here? Of course not. The Monrony sticker is a bit deceiving in that it makes no reference to where the thousands and thousands of engineers live that conceived, designed and created the product.
  9. If you were a Ford, Chevy, or Pontiac Super Stock drag racer in the sixties, the sound of that starter brought instant fear to you. I remember hearing a 1963 426 Plymouth trying to fire up for class eliminations and thinking, oh crap. If he gets that thing going, it's curtains for the 427 Galaxie.
  10. Razor, Thank you for a great post above. I've been a republican for many years but you have just convinced me that repubs are not making descisions in the best interests of our country. For us to go from the biggest exporter during Reagan to now, clinging on to the last thing we make, cars, is beyond unbelieveable. When I recently learned of something called a VAT tax and how it works as explained by Congressman Mike Michaud (Maine), I can only shake my head in disbelief. At home we seek to insure civil rights, equality and freedom. We even seek to advance those goals beyond our borders and have sent thousands of soldiers throughout the world to fight for rights, freedom and EQUALITY. Discrimination has been assualted by our courts and legislators often and hard, yet as the Maine Congressman explained we have been allowing more than 150 countries to discriminate against our products when we seek to export them (VAT tax system). One by one we have seen our manufacturing slip away.....TVs, textiles, steel, etc., etc. to other countries and now we are down to a precious VISIBLE (1) one...cars!! I will not be voting republican again.
  11. Gee! As the ONLY non-VAT country in the world, let's give more breaks to the imports and watch the International line head straight up. My congressional representative held a town hall meeting last night that I attended. I shared the VAT article written by Congressman Mike Michaud of Maine with the gathered. Basically, Michaud said, that every other country we trade with (more than 150) discriminates against our goods and services and that international goods that come here get the VAT tax paid for by their governments. Briefly, a $20,000 German car comes here as a 17,900 car and the $20,000 American car that goes there becomes a 25, 800 car. This applies to evrything we make, not just cars and parts. I asked my Congressman why this practice is still in place and was shocked to hear him be honest and say that he has no explaination, no logical explaination. Indeed. There is no logical explaination for this type of discrimination. We are simply a bunch of fools and I predict the economy will not recover to 2007 levels again if we do not eliminate this VAT tax discrimination.
  12. Japan does what Japan wants. They severly control imports. I just read a USDA article that stated it costs Japan $2.63 to produce a Kg of rice and it costs us $.20 to produce the same. Any imported rice allowed in Japan is severly marked up so that it isn't competitive in their market. This policy obviously is costing their consumers more than they need to pay. Does this sound like free trade to you? Of course not. This has been going on for decades. It's OK for them to put our TV manufactures out of business. Heck, they do it better and cheaper. Why doesn't it work the other way around? Why shouldn't we be their supplier of rice. Let their rice farmers be re-trained for another type of work like our workers have had to do. Rice may not be a big deal, BUT, by my arithmetic it would amount to a 21 BILLION dollar saving for their consumers per year. My point is simply, they do what they want and they have not honored their agreements as stated by the GM exec above. Japan is not the only country to engage in these practices. Indeed, how many countries can actually claim to have a trade deficit with us? My computer is screwing up and I can't get the link, but do a Yahoo search using "japan imports rice" and you will see USDA articles .
  13. So... Nothing has changed. Japan still does what Japan wants (regardless of agreements) and our knuckleheads in Congress still do nothing. And why shouldn't Japan feel it can act with with almost limitless agression in the marketplace, because our leaders can't even decide whether to help or not help our most important industry....auto industry. Good grief. They must think we are f--king idiots.
  14. Good grief!! Why would ANYONE oppose photo ID to vote?? We have licenses to do almost everything in this country. Jeeez. A license is needed in NY just to do haircuts. The priviledge to vote is our free democracy is fundelmental to our country so you would think the Democrats would endorse that.
  15. Better ideas??? Like maybe giving all illegal aliens a drivers license? How about putting them all on social security? Just sign them up even if theiy're not paying taxes. Maybe we should fork over medical benefits, too? Those are good liberal ideas.
  16. I'm wondering if Obama is elected, will he impose the same redistribution ideaology into the classroom. Will teachers have to announce to their students that anyone getting an A or A+ will now have some points taken away from their test scores and those points will be distributed among the rest of the students in that class.....to sort of "spread the grades around"? This system would obviously have great appeal to the low academically achieving students. Getting something for nothing would be wildly popular. But if adopted, just what lessons would students learn?
  17. Say your 10 yr. old child was about to become a 5th grader. Just prior to the beginning of school, you are notified that your childs teacher for the year will be ......William Ayers. What would you do??................................................................................ ........ Exactly. You'd go down to the school and demand your child be reassigned to a different teacher. Is the mom of a 5th grader smarter than a Harvard law graduate??? How many of these bizarre associations (Rev. Wright, etc. )does Obama have to have before people get turned off?
  18. Well, Mettech. It's only troubling when ONE side does it and the other side doesn't. Kinda like playing a baseball game between Asia and the US. The Asian team is allowed 4 outs in THEIR half of the inning and the US team is only allowed the traditional 3 outs. I agree with you Retroman. We need to do something. However, I am at a TOTAL loss to understand WHY not one segment of our society raises these concerns. No media, no politician---no one. Congress HAS TO know what is going on but chooses to ignore it. WHY?
  19. I have read that Jim Press, former Toyota US, said the Japanese Gov. paid for the entire research and development of the Prius batteries and hybrid system. Then Toyota denies it all and said they paid for and designed the whole thing. So, who is telling thr truth? I do remember that a Car & Driver reporter was talking to a Toyota exec about the Prius shortly after the most recent version debuted and the exec said "we are starting to see a little profit now". The reporter was taken aback and couldn't believe that a complex and most certainly, very costly, vehicle like the Prius would be able to see payback within 4-5 months after release. If the Prius development was paid for by the gov., this would be VERY troubling to me. It also raises a couple more issues, namely, Honda and Nissan would have to be given something also. In addition, does Hyundai get perks from their gov. also?
  20. A money saving program? Am I eligible and if so, how much can I save? How does it work? My daughter is looking at new cars and narrowed her search to a Mini Cooper and Fusion. Of course, I'm leading the charge to the Fusion. My dealer has no knowledge of a 6 speed automatic Fusion. I was under the impression that the '09 Fusion would have a 6 speed. Thanks.
  21. How many toasts will Ted Kennedy propose tonite? And will Bill Clinton ask Ted to take Hillary home after the convention???
  22. Someone please inform this sterile asshole the he HAS a gas burning car. I have a hybrid, too. It burns gas AND rubber!!!!
  23. Sorry if this topic has already been discussed here, but I would like to know what MPG will Fiesta have when it arrives here and when will it arrive? Also, what will next upgrade of Fusion have for MPG and when is it due for release?
  24. This sounds reasonable. I love the notion that we make drilling on our soil ILLEGAL but we want to sue the mideast because ..... what they're not producing enough, or their price is too high. You just can't make this stuff up. It's like a Sat. nit. live skit. However, so far I have not heard one single Democrat say they'd like to relax the law banning any drilling for oil in the US. Now I didn't research that, so if anyone can show me a Democrat that is all for shale oil or letting Alaska do their thing, please tell me who it is!! This may have started out as a bi-partisan no drill law, but today it is as partisan as anything can get. http://www.afa.net/newtvideo.html
