The Edge FWD is price comparable to V6 equipped Camry's & Accord's. I think most of the sales for the Edge will come from people who are in the market for 5 passenger V6 powered sedans that want a little more room & utility.
You pretty much summed me up in a nutshell and why I have an Edge on order. I'm coming from a Grand Marquis, so "more room" is subjective. The GM has a monster trunk. But I don't use it much. The Edge will have more "usable" room, for what I do anyway.
I'm hoping Ford can do 100k units a year. But I'm not counting on it. I think it'll sell well, probably out pace the Murano. But it's not going to do anywhere near the F150 sales volume...

WYou sound like a convert to the SysEng MANTRA of IRS, longer/wider WB and a LARGER FUEL TANK! :D
Actually, I've been driving a Panther since my first car! But I have an Edge on order now. So my Panther days are coming to an end after 20years. If they had come up with the updated Panther, who knows...

I'm not sure where you live, but in North Dakota, E85 runs about 15-20% less than 87 octane. So the roughly 20% drop in mileage doesn't hurt the pocket book as much.
What it does hurt is the car's range. To support the local agriculture economy, I could do E85 around town. But for longer trips, I'd have to run 87 to get my distance back.
But there's another thing to consider I haven't heard talked about here. Both the Federal, and my state gas taxes on E85 is the same as 87,89,92 octane. But since you make it 20% shorter distance on E85, your actual tax per a mile is higher on E85. I think they should reduce both federal and state taxes by 20% on E85. That'll make it cheaper, and hopefully cause more demand for it. It'll align the actual tax per a mile to the same as the other gases. Since E85 isn't as popular, it's not like it'll cost them anything substantial. And if the demand increases enough within a few years, they'll be making it right back again.

I think the problem is that Ford has upgraded the abilities of the new Expidition, that most wouldn't use/need the Excursion. Throw on top of that, they're working on putting a diesel in it. So that should fit your bill.

I AGREE! Boy, if I new where I could get that second image in a metal cast, I'd order one to stick on my bike!

This is another two bit reviewer who likes to smoke crack and listen to himself speak.
The Silverado is no home run for GM. Who is he kidding? And apparently he's totally forgotten that the Expedition is totally new, plus the L version.
No new small cars? I guess the Fusion doesn't count. And counting away it does.
"Only 100k" vehicles?? WTF is wrong with that? Beats the crap out of what GM will do on it's CUV's.
And why is it every car review that has come out lately about a Ford product has to give us the same corporate money review? I personally don't give a crap. Just review the dang vehicle!

You have a link to the announcement? I'd like to see it. I'm ording an Edge with the panoramic roof. So as it is now, I couldn't get the DVD entertainment. But if I can, I'd like to.

They're going to have a tough time with this suit. Unless they can show that they were supposed to have an FFV engine on a per a purchase basis, they don't have anything to go on.
I don't know about these last model years of Taurus, but I remember they used to put the green grass leaf sticker on any FFV capable car. If that wasn't there, it wasn't FFV.

There's something everyone's forgetting here. It's not like Ford has had the monopoly "forever". Ford just basically inherited it after the others bowed out. Now that their back, everyone is acting like Ford gave up on CV's. That's just not the case.
On the other hand, I'm actually glad someone came out with some comepetition to the PI. Now Ford is actually listening to the shortcomings being voiced and doing something about it. There was a thread a few months back where Ford had a session with LEO group. I don't recall how many LEO's, but a sizable group. They basically sat down and asked what don't you like, what would you like, and how much more would you pay for some of the new items.
The last question wasn't "How much can we soak you" kind of question. It was like, if we put in the GT500 5.4 supercharge as an option, would you like it? And how much would you pay to get it. How about if we made it standard. Questions like that.
At best, I see the Charger being "as reliable", but I seriously doubt it will be. I see front suspension clips being replaced like PEZ. I also see some of the bigger sized LEO's not liking the interior size of the Charger. Once Ford comes out with an updated PI, most of the Charger's plus's will be shot down. I just hope they can do something to compete with it fuel mileage wise as well. 4.6 3V 6speed should help.

Nope, I have another 20 years. That's why it's so comical!

Just goes to show you how oblivous people can be. Especially when it comes to planning for reitrement.
That's why I'm relying on Social Security to fund my retired arse!

Not only may they be required to sell, but can you say "ENRON". Ok, I knew you could.
I wouldn't want all my retirement assets tied up in a single corporation.

The diesel that was killed was a V6 based off the current 6.0 Power Stroke. But rumor has it that a V8 is being developed in Englad's Ford diesel team that's based off one of their European diesels. This one is destined for F150 and Expedition.

Was at the Ford lot just this past weekend. I'm looking at an Edge, but I wanted the wife to sit in a Fusion and 500. There were four 2007 500's and one Montego on the lot. No 2006's.
The wife liked the 500 better BTW. :-)

Despite the outward appearance of this action, the real impact on Edge/MKX production is minimal at best.
We're still at the point we're building squat anyways.
If it dragged on a few weeks, I can see it being an issue. But now? Oooo we'll build 15 Edges instead of 20...
Well, that's a bit reassuring then. Any word on when they'll be ramping up that production from more than 15??

This is not good. Not good for Ford, not good for the "prospective buyer" wanting an Edge. I hope the union realizes they are jepordizing a lot by striking just before a new model roll out. I realize it's not CAW. But still not good.
Whether or not they are justified in striking, it just isn't good. Especially since I'm one of the "prospective" buyers. Just went to the dealer this weekend and was talking about ordering an Edge this week. For everyones sake, this needs to be short term...

I thought I saw somewhere that there was to be a color 'ORANGE CRUSH' rather than Blazing copper?????
Orange Crush is a SportTrac color.

I saw a picture just the other day that applies:
An argument on the Internet is like running in the Special Olymics. Even if you win, you're still retarded.
My apologies to those are are actually mentally handicapped...

Look at what you're getting vs a Santa Fe too. Edge has standard side air bags, stability roll control and a more powerful engine. The old Sante Fe is an Escape competitor, not Edge. New Santa Fe, maybe.
I just re-did my fully loaded FWD Edge I'll be ordering. Came down just under $1000 less than before. I can live with that. Never mind my XPLAN pin I have...

I thought I read the Edge at 3,000lbs.
With a loaded car and camper, it WILL be over 3,000lbs, that's for sure.
While the Grand Marquis and Crown Vic is officially only rated for 1500lbs, a few upgrades would tow all of that better than any other "car" on the market. The CV/GM uses the same transmission as on my 2003 SuperCrew F150.
If you didn't buy a CV/GM with sports package with better springs, you'd probably want to add air springs. Tranny cooler and maybe oil cooler would be good. Outside chance on power steering cooler too. So it wouldn't be cheap to upgrade exactly. But that's the only way you'll do it and keep in the mid 20mpg range for "normal" highway driving for work.
Outside of that, something will have to give...

Updated Freestyle will be a 3.5 with the standard 6 speed. The updated 6 speed transmission too, BTW.
Funny about the shifting. Most people I've talked to loved how smooth it was because of no shifting. It did require people let go of old habits and expectations on a shifting transmission. But that's all besides the point now that Ford has dropped the CVT...

According to what I'm reading, it says the EPA changes won't affect 2007 cars. It starts with 2008 Model Year cars. Not that Ford couldn't be using that method already.

I noticed something odd. If you look at the MKZ, it shows the HP as 263. But if you check the MKX, it's at 265. Why would that be??
Personally, I was hoping for closer to 20/30 for MPG on this engine. With the Edge coming in at almost a 1000lbs heavier, I don't know how it would get "better" than the MKZ. The wife and I really really want this Edge, but the MPG is a dissappointment if it comes in at this level.
After talking about it, we've still decided we want the Edge enough in spite of this. And we've been comparing everything Ford from Focus, Fusion, 500, and Grand Marquis. The Edge still fits what we want most. I guess MPG ends up being third priority after style and versatility. I just hope the ride is good, otherwise we'll be back to thinking again...

I'm always astounded how little respect some posters have for the AMERICANS that were involved in the design, testing, and assembly...
Reminds me of the pundits crying about Harley's new VROD engine and how it was a German Porsche engine, not Harley. Like you said, more than enough Americans invovled to make it American.

Well, if it's public perception that matters more than the MT rag, take a look at this link. Only one guy put the interior quality in the price range it actually is. All the rest thought it would be a more expensive vehicle.
