  1. The reason was Ford at the time was on the financial ropes and Mulally thought what works in Europe would work in America under the "One Ford" plan. That works in airplanes but not so good in cars, see the Merkur failure. Ford sells more trucks in America than anywhere else on the planet so his idea was to NOT design trucks in America for the American market...brilliant.
  2. What a F__ed up truck design. Hey, let's build a trucklet with as short a wheelbase as possible and then mount the bed to carry the payload as high as possible...who needs stability.
  3. Are these factory prep packages or just total third party chop jobs? I figured Mercedes would be the big European hearse builder. They built some big ass rides for the Fuhrer.
  4. Caskets are expensive and only seen for a short time so make the most of it.
  5. I didn't but my father-in-law just bought a new E-450 motor home. Great big 29ft V10 powered rolling vacation cottage.
  6. Does Audi, BMW or even Jaguar offer a Hearse prep package?
  7. No need, my truck's bed is plenty long enough to close the tailgate. But Lincoln's Hearse is on the Ford Fleet site... http://www.fleet.ford.com/showroom/speciality-vehicle/lincoln-town-car-funeral/
  8. And how much extra does it cost to stamp good looking metal vs fugly metal? Nothing. If you're going to put your company name on the grille should at least make it look decent.
  9. Thought I was clear, I'm talking about it being ugly.
  10. Then next question is how soon can Ford design a real American van and get these Euro-ugly ass eyesores off our roads. The Econoline was in service for 40 years with few upgrades, this Transit won't match that and hopefully will "Transit-ion" to something better fast.
  11. Looks great! A refined progression of the Super Chief concept.
  12. I look at Lincoln and Cadillac as pimpmobiles. edit: or hearses...and they'd better not haul my carcass to the field in either, just throw me in the back of my truck.
  13. Old teacher to student: "I taught you everything you know boy...but not everything I know."
  14. Teaching China how to build quality cars is like teaching the North Koreans how to build quality weapons. This is going to end bad for America in the long run but who cares companies can make money in the short term. Hey, greed is good...right. If/when China gets to the point they can build vehicles good enough for Americans to buy they will kick Ford and all the other "teacher companies" out demand and receive open access to our market then flood it with cheep Cherys. Some of the other markets you mentioned like the Middle East and North Africa I'm not sure Ford "dominated" but Toyota can have them.
  15. Yea, problem is I don't give a rat's ass about who has a job in Turkey or Thailand. I do care about America and jobs here at home. Character flaw I guess...
  16. So prove your point. What is Ford's total employees in the U.S. vs their competitors? Oh, and don't waste your time on the global numbers I couldn't care less about that.
  17. Not true. 20 years ago the Corolla had independent rear suspension, today it has a cheap beam rear axle. But it does still have rear drum brakes.
  18. Not in the heavy truck business but from what I've seen on the road maybe Ford should have put 200 little amber and red lights on it 200 pounds of chrome and one of these classy things on the door. Lighten up, just joking.
  19. 4Runner, Sequoia and LandCruiser are not CUVs They're bof SUVs. And Sequoia/LandCruiser are redundant.
  20. Toyota is the McDonalds of automobiles. They sell more boring, tasteless and unhealthy (safety recalls) crap than any other company on the planet...but they make a lot of money.
