Does anybody know if the new incentives will also apply to the 2008 models? Do the incentives usually go for the past model year and the new model year cars, or do they have separate for each or none at all for the newer cars? My biggest hope is that they will still have good financing 2.9 - 3.9 for the 08 cars. Not as concerned with the rebates since the car will be bought with a-plan. Thanks.
Incentives vary by model year, more so if there is a big change in the new model.
Why aren't you concerned with rebates using A-plan? You still get all the publicly available rebates with A/X/Z plan, plus some of the dealer incentives also. If there is a $2K rebate then your A-plan price is A-plan minus $2K. Perhaps you misunderstood how A plan works.

Wondering if possible to swap a homelink set-up into an 08 Escape from another Ford/Mazda prodct? Similar to swapping a Homelink visor from a Navigator/Expidition into and F150. I know I can order the Mazda Homelink rearview mirror and swap that with the Ford auto-dim, but would rather have the homelink on the visor. Any info appreciated.
Yes. You can even swap one from another make. I bought a Maxima homelink visor off ebay for $35, ripped out the homelink transceiver and transplanted it into my Fusion Visor. Messed up the fabric but it works perfectly.

I am not sure about the new integrated keypads, but the old keypad was really just a transmitter with buttons and 3M tape on the back .. I believe Ford still sells it as an accessory .. you program it to be accepted as a transmitter and stick it onto the car (I saw a Focus with the pad UNDER the side view mirror) ... and you are dandy - I would imagine Ford keeps all their new key less systems compatible with the accessory keypads.
Igor
That's the generic one I was talking about. There are compatibility issues with keyfobs. My 95 ranger keyfob would not work on my 00 LS and vice versa. I would expect the same potential exists here. But the Ford accessory site should tell you for sure if it works or not.
This is not the same as the integrated keypads that plug into the car's wiring harness.

I see that the 2008 Fusion SEL has the keyless entry pad. Is Ford going to offer a dealer or self installed pad for the 2007 or 2006 Fusions?
Ford has a generic self installed keypad that works like a keyfob but I don't know for sure if it's compatible with the 06/07 Fusion since it uses a new integrated key and transmitter.
If the wiring harness happens to exist inside the door then the keypad could be added (I've seen that done on a F150). But since no Fusion or Milan models had the keypad at all for 06/07 it may not be there.
-
And remember - these results don't include the 05 mustang, 06 fusion or 07 edge - all of which should raise the bar even higher.

I guess if you can afford to insure two vehicles and maintain them both, go ahead with your bad self.
Now you're making fun of someone just because he said his old car wasn't worth enough to trade in and he'd rather keep it? Unbelievable.

Most of the "best time to buy" theories don't hold water. It generally has more to do with supply and demand than day of the month or month of the year. If the dealer is overstocked on a certain model they'll give you a better deal. But it's only going to net you a few hundred dollars additional savings, if that much.
The exception would be huge factory rebates on leftover models but then you have to take whatever is left in stock (which isn't much - that's why they need the big rebate).
-
Right now the current $1000 or 2.9% is set to end on July 2nd. Anyone have insider info on what they will change to?
I've never heard anyone who had inside info on upcoming incentives. They must keep that info close to the vest.
No reason to think it will be reduced, though.

That is very funny. I guess his editing duties don't require a working knowledge of basic automotive terms such as bore and stroke. Maybe he is just a human spell check.
Think about it - if you were a well respected, knowledgable automotive journalist - would you be working at Edmunds.com? I don't think so.
-
But they're Edmunds! They have to know more than we do!
Edmunds former editor-in-chief Chris Wardlaw once said that Ford couldn't figure out whether the AJ V8 was a 3.9L engine (ls) or a 4.0L engine (s-type). I sent him an email explaining that the Jag engine had a 86mm stroke while the LS had a 85mm stroke (or something like that - it was a 1mm difference) which actually changed the displacement of the 2 engines. His response? What does stroke have to do with engine displacement? Which is sort of like asking why a tall glass holds more milk than a short one.
It also took them 9 months to realize the LS battery was in the trunk. They're all idiots.

I have a pin (I used to work for Saleen), but can I still use it? Probably I can use it to look up the price but not when I go to purchase? My wife can get the recent college grad $500 rebate, but will the pin have to be specific to her name ??
What is X-plan usually roughly $200-300 over invoice?
Thanks so much.
The PIN has to be in the name of the primary purchaser (the name that goes on the title).
I don't think the college grad rebate can be used in conjunction with X plan but ask the dealer to be sure.
X plan on Fords is 0.4% UNDER invoice plus you don't pay the usual $400 documentation fee. Very rarely can you beat the X plan price.

The answer is WMA files wont work. I use mainly WMA files in my computer. To get this unit to work you must use 192mbps MP3 files only.
Thanks for your help guys!
You mean a MP3 player only plays MP3 files? Shocking!

What would be the X-plan price of a 2007 ZX3 SE w/auto??
Thinking about get one for the wife. The current $2500 rebate is really Enticing!
Thanks
You'll have to find one on forddirect.com and give us the dealer's name, ZIP code, make/model and last 5 of the VIN - then we can tell you the X plan price. Or if you have a PIN you can get it yourself through the myplan.ford.com website.

I only mentioned the MKZ for the colors/ textures and overall theme of the interior. Your idea for the dash design & layout sound great. My beef with the center stack was more the easily marred black plastic. And the full width dash lines shouldn't be interrupted by the steering column. Only the center stack 'floating' in front of it.
In a nutshell... I hope Lincoln designs a functional & practical interior so svelte & so elegant and at the same time so modern that the boys at MB & Lexus will be drooling. An Executive Hot Rod Lincoln!
A Lincoln should state one thing about its owner: You Have Arrived!
How many times do we have to say that those are NOT the final dash materials?
-
Tactile feel, chrome, manner in which it engages. Any other questions?
Then that wouldn't be the same switchgear, would it?
Or as I like to say - they're exactly the same only different.
-
I have it on good authority that none of the materials are necessarily the final version and to expect significant differences when the production version arrives. These are engineering test mules.
-
and
Are not the same thing. My comments dealt directly with presentation, not whether or not it uses the same switchgear as a Camry.......that's sort of redundant considering they share platforms.
How do you present the same switchgear differently?
-
And where in all of my post did I say that Lexus uses different switchgear from Toyota? Where?
Here?
You don't get in a Lexus and think hmmm, those look like nobs from a Camry -
I have an MKZ which I have only been driving for about two weeks. I am told that it has many of the same features as the Fusion. I am impressed with something about the outside mirrors. It seems that I no longer have a "blind spot". I have had many cars over the years but for some reason I am able to see things in those outside mirrors that were hidden on other cars. Anyone else have this experience or know why this is true?
You've experienced nothing more than properly aimed side mirrors. Most people aim the side mirrors straight back creating a blind spot. That's what the windshield mirror is for. If you simply move the outside mirrors out you can eliminate blind spots.
It's not the mirrors - it's the aim.

Anyone have any suggestions for replacing the 20 inch chrome wheels with some cheap winter ones? Would finding some steel 18's and using larger tires be the same (in regards to not throwing off speedometer, etc)? Thanks for your input!
Yes! You don't want to pay for 20" winter wheels and tires even if you could find them. Use tirerack.com's tire size calculator to figure out a 18 or even 17" tire size that maintains the same overall diameter (within 2% or so). That's all that matters.
-
Try BF Goodrich....actually made by Michelin...AND a tad cheaper....GREAT tires seem to last forever....
Actually I think BF Goodrich is owned by Michelin but make their own tires. But I could be wrong.

The foot operated parking brake is a holdover from it's D3 roots (Taurus, Sable). The Freestyle loaner I drove had the same thing. Probably too expensive to change it.
I just looked at both the Lexus GS350 and Infiniti M35 and they use a foot operated parking brake as well (unless it's electronic). They certainly don't use a handbrake so maybe this is ok.
-
Well, it's still a pre-production model. The wood trim does look a bit sparse on this shot. It's possible (and hopefully) the mass of dull black plastic on the center stack/console will be finished some other way for the production version. Even a brushed aluminum look like the MKZ would look better.
This is pre-production - none of the materials are finished (no graining e.g.). Don't get too caught up in the materials yet.
-
The center part of the dash is a speaker according to the text at least, The push button is the trunk release, IF you look at the icon its the back of the car with the decklid open
Yeah, I see that now. Wishful thinking on my part I guess. I'm also not used to a round trunk release button (mine is square).
Ford and Dealership Pricing

No, it's not right but that's reality. Back in the 50's or 60's the auto dealers convinced their state legislators to pass laws that protected them from the big, bad auto mfrs. These laws prevent the mfrs from selling vehicles directly to the public and prevent the mfrs from controlling what the dealers charge or what vehicles they sell. Ford tried a variation where they advertised used cars on the internet and then arranged test drives and sales through a local dealer. Dealers sued and won. Ford tried to offer a financial incentive to dealers who were Blue Oval Certified (or more accurately a penalty for those who weren't). Dealers sued again and won.
I asked the Lincoln VP of Marketing why Lincoln didn't require it's dealers to stock at least one manual transmission LS for test drives. He said if he tried to do that he'd end up in jail.
Not sure how to fix it short of changing the laws which probably won't happen. Auto dealers have a lot of influence at the state capitals.
