  1. countered by why does ONE individual want to be different...thats too easy Kirby...and the consequences of making amendments for one means one has to make amendments for each and every based on their DEMANDS...ok..go throw your own prom....would be interesting to have hidden cameras...EVERYONE would be making THEIR statements...guys , if they felt the need could wear formal dress's.....and beleive me, some probably would have in PROTEST maybe....there HAS to be guidelines Kirb....whether YOU agree with them or not....and read the whole post....the school was thinking about cancelling beforehand...THIS may have been the straw that broke the Camels back...and like I said...ok, go PAY for your OWN Prom if its that importatnt, that way you can set YOUR OWN ground rules....hell, this sounds IRONICALLY like parenting, if you are under my roof, MY rules........simple huh?

The guidelines should be the same for the prom as they are in public. Is it acceptable for guys to wear dresses in public? No. Is it acceptable for girls to wear suits or tuxedos? Absolutely. Happens all the time and nobody complains. Why is that so hard to accept?

  2. once AGAIN you are focusing PURELY on the same sex issue...its NOT just that...sheesh... :banghead: big part YES, all of it NO, not ONLY did she want to take her same sex date she wanted her OWN dress code..... :redcard:....and she was told she was welcome if wshe ABIDED by the same rules as everyone else.....and i agree on the rules being written right the first time...but then it comes down to interpretation doesnt it? :shades: and when the rules are initiallt written, do you REALLY think they embrace all potential changes we expereience????? Seriously, write a rule now, how its interpreted 10 years from now is a crap-shoot.... :reading:

Why do you need a rule that says girls have to wear a dress in the first place? We've been through this before. If the dress code simply called for Tuxedos and Long Dresses without specifying sex then she could have worn a Tuxedo without breaking any dress code. After all this wasn't a guy wanting to wear a dress - this was a girl wanting to wear a formal tuxedo, which I believe women do in public all the time with no controversy.

If the only rule was formal wear - Tuxedos and Formal gowns - then they would not have been breaking any rules and there would have been NO controversy - just like there isn't any controversy in GA.

The rules were wrong and the school is responsible for that, not the students.

  3. i'm just tired of everyone having to constantly re-write rule books for each individuals needs

If you write the rules correctly the first time then they apply to everyone equally and you don't have to rewrite them.

Case in point from Cochran, GA:

An 18-year-old senior at Bleckley County High School has won approval to bring a same-sex date to the school prom.

Derrick Martin says he first sought permission in January to bring his date to the April 17 dance at the school. Bleckley County High requires approval in advance for bringing a prom date from outside the county.

Principal Michelle Masters says there's no school policy covering the subject of same-sex dates.

County schools superintendent Charlotte Pipkin says the board discussed the matter but did not take a vote.

Both Masters and Pipkin say the prom will go on as scheduled. A request by a female student in Mississippi to bring a same-sex prom date led to the prom at her school being called off.

  4. I realize that name-calling serves as a substitute for rational argument for you, but it only shows your narrow-minded attitudes and ignorance.

Not to mention lousy reading comprehension skills, as I've said that people have the right to live their own lives (and that includes gays) and that the couple in question here have the right to attend the prom.

(Read that sentence twice more before posting again - if you need it explained to you, let me know.)

Do yourself a favor - stick to discussing cars. Or get Hooked on Phonics so that you can respond accurately to what people actually posted, not what you think they posted, or hope that they posted.

I understand you're not disagreeing about the prom - that's not what I was referring to. We've already given you rational, scientific reasoning which you simply ignore. There is nothing narrow-minded about it.

  5. Umm. That's still the current way. 2011 Mustang anyone?

Not exactly. New Fiesta gets new 1.6L. New Explorer gets new 2.0 EB.

I think they're simply putting out the new designs and new engines whenever they're ready - in some cases that's immediately and in some cases the engines are a year behind. I don't think it's a rule.

  6. Yep...sometimes, principle is more important than $$$. Ultimately, you have to look in a mirror at some point....

That's easy to say when your name isn't on the check. And exactly what did Jay do other than say yes when offered a show?

  7. Well, that's disappointing. In fact, it seems almost dishonest. Why withhold conditions from the consumer website?

They can't possibly put up all of the restrictions/allowances and keep it up to date. When you go to the dealer they put your info into Vincent and it tells them all of the incentives you're eligible for and in which combinations including personal rebates.

  8. she WAS given a choice she most definitely was NOT told not to come.

Put yourself in their position. If the school told you that you and your girlfriend - whom you had been dating for some time - were allowed to attend the prom but you could NOT arrive together and you could NOT dance together - how would you feel? I don't think you're looking at it from their standpoint at all.

  9. Wrong...there is no proof that it is genetic in origin.

90% of men are attracted to women and 90% of women are attracted to men. Nobody "taught" me to be attracted to women and nobody can "teach" me to be attracted to men.

The difference between men and women is genetic. XX vs. XY chromosomes. A 90% correlation between gender and sexual preference is way too strong NOT to be genetic.

We also have men with female characteristics and vice versa (not to mention hermaphrodites) so there is no reason not to believe we could have true bi-sexual people who are attracted to both. But I believe these are rare.

I've heard some people opine that molestation is a major cause but that doesn't make sense. The VAST majority of molesters are men with the theory being that boys who are molested by men think that's normal and "become" gay. The problem is that doesn't account for lesbians, since by the same theory a girl molested by a man would just be heterosexual. And there are not enough women molesting women to account for 10% of women being lesbian.

There is no other rational scientific explanation than genetics. The problem is they simply haven't been able to find the gene that causes it, but there are a lot of genes they haven't found yet. And it's compounded by the religious right who refuse to believe that it's genetic because that would mean they were created by God and that there is no real hope of "changing" them, both of which go against their religion.

  10. if they werent asking fro anything ,kirb, then I counter with this, was there ANYONE...and I mean ANYONE else pleading for an exception?????? sorry, you are flat out wrong...I actually AGREE ( sigh, once again ) that they should have been allowed, they were told NO...so the bullshit begins, and up comes the get out of jail card because someone disagrees with the gay/ lesbian agenda...ANY couple at the prom that had the potential to cause an uncomfortable reaction would have been held to the same standards ...agree or not? YOU are once again focusing primarily on ONE topic...this is NOT solely about THAt agenda, it is also about the boundaries of authority, which is all hunky Dory to some people UNTIL they do not get their own way...WAAAAAH!

It's hard NOT to bring up that card when the school has a RULE that prohibits same sex couples from attending the prom together.

So you think the school (a government entity) should have the authority to openly discriminate against gay couples? What if the school had a rule that prohibited Catholic/Protestant couples? Or Jewish couples? Or black couples? Oh wait - those are all illegal because they're civil rights violations. So what you're saying is it's ok for the school to discriminate against gays but not blacks or Jews? What's the difference?

The point you seem to be missing here is this is a government entity, not a private entity. If YOU are throwing a party and you decide to cancel it or dis-invite certain couples then that's your right.

At one time there were all sorts of rules that discriminated against a lot of people. Do you know how those were changed? Lawsuits. It's the only way to get something like this changed.

  11. Finally received my Co plan code and now have a new Pin#.

The discount from MSRP appears to be around $1400. That is not considered a great deal.

Will try to bargain for a better discount when the 2011 are in the dealers lot without this X-Plan.

The X plan price will be around $200 over the true factory invoice. There is ALMOST no way you'll get a better deal without X plan on a brand new 2011 mustang - they're going to be popular for at least a few months with the new engines. Also remember that with X plan you'll only pay $75 doc fee rather than $300-$400 or more.

If there are any public incentives at your time of delivery you'll also get those with X plan.

  12. I too am disappointed by Ford's choice to base the next PI on the Taurus; however, I'm not at all surprised. I had guessed that Ford would use the Taurus as the basis but that AWD and the new 305HP 3.7L V6 would be standard.

Don't forget this is a concept and it's 18 months away from production. It will most likely either get the upgraded 3.5 or the 3.7 by then. But even the 3.5 would outperform the current 4.6L V8.

  13. NBC is a bunch of whore masters and while Conan did the right thing and left (with class might I add...stood by his people and made sure they didn't get screwed) and said nothing but nice things about NBC on his last day there...Jay Leno is the whore who doesn't realize his "time" on stage is over....period. Again, only my opinion....but I will never, ever watch him again....ever.

Because I'm sure YOU would have turned down all that money, right?

I used to watch Leno occasionally. I never watched Conan and probably won't watch him on any type of new show, either. I agree that NBC totally hosed everyone and horribly mismanaged the whole thing. The reason they gave Leno a daily 10 pm show was because it was way cheaper than 5 one hour dramas. I don't know why they ever promised Conan the TS gig. I don't think he would have pulled it off even without Leno.

  14. WHY do certain factions feel it is their right to have a different rule book?

Why do you keep insisting they're asking for special rules? Stop looking at it as a male/female thing and look at them as a couple attending the prom. They simply want to attend the prom like any other couple. If they were asking for something special or trying to call attention to themselves then I'd agree with you - but wearing a tux and dancing together is NOT asking for something special - just asking to be treated like any other couple.

  15. Lets review....

When Johnny Carson retired and Jay Leno took over....Jays numbers tanked and he had to build his audience back up. What Jay didn't have to contend with was Johnny Carson yanking the rug out from under him with a new show an hour and a half earlier in the lineup after he left the tonight show...Johnny did it with class and Jay is a "hack" comedian that doesn't know when the show is over and the curtain has closed....grasp at more air time.....Conan never stood a chance....he would have if Jay left the air for good like Johnny Carson did.....

Conan wasn't getting the ratings and neither was Jay - they were both out of a job. Conan already said no to moving so at that point both Conan and Jay were unemployed, so Jay's choice was to stay unemployed or take back the old TS gig. I don't see where Jay did anything wrong whatsoever. Had Jay said no Conan would still be gone.

  16. I think you need to remember that these are still self-reported "problems" and we all know that Toyota and Honda both like to fix problems secretly during maintenance visits or other warranty work and those won't show up. In addition, Ford's number includes close to a million F150s per year up until 2 years ago, plus all of the other trucks and vans that have only average reliability whereas Honda has none of that baggage and Toyota only has a fraction of the percentage that Ford does.

I bet if you just looked at new cars and crossovers and counted all of the secrete warranty work that Ford would be neck and neck with Honda and Toyota, or at least darn close.

  17. I, unlike some here, are NOT solely focusing on teh sexual preference card...this is most definitely NOT what this is all about...and it is what this young lady is trying to convince everyone it IS about...that GAY card has become overly used/ powerful and abused

Hmm.....let's see.........she was told that she was forbidden from slow dancing with her girlfriend and that if their presence together made the other students "uncomfortable" that she might be asked to leave.........

Please explain when that standard would ever be applied to a straight couple...........

It may not have started out being a gay issue but it certainly ended up there with those comments.

  18. so, you say its justified as obviously does the young lady, and the School says it isnt....WHAT actually has happened to people just having a good old difference of opinion and acceptance of an executive decision....has peoples ability to compromise been compromised by a society hell bent on being led by attourneys and lawsuits...i mean seriously, if I put myself in this girls situation i would have remained quiet and just GONE....and if THEN the school made an issue of it fine, THEN I would veiw it as more of an issue, but being turned down and refusing to accept the decision and THEN throwing out the "This MUST be because i'm a Lesbian" card IMO is badly played. ( truth be told I REALLY want to hear the schools side in full, to draw an unbiased opinion, right now the only side coming out is the one the media finds more "meaty"...)

So let's say you're a student with a girlfriend and the school tells you that you can both go to the prom, but you can't go together and you can't slow dance together. Are you saying you would just say oh well, that's ok? This is her one and only chance at the Sr. Prom and I don't blame her for wanting to enjoy it just like every other couple at the school.

There is a reason we keep bringing up Rosa Parks and the civil rights movement. It's the same issue just 50 years later with a different group of people.

Society will not willingly stop discrimination against minorities without threat of legal action. If it wasn't for a discrimination lawsuit 50 years ago we might still have segregated schools.
