  1. The X may be one of those vehicles that beats the EPA numbers in the real world. With the same drivetrain as the Edge and, I believe, being somewhat lighter weight it should do at least 1 mpg better. Considering the Taurus numbers and what the Freestyle could do I think these numbers for the X are pessimistic. The thing to keep in mind is that the EPA testing process really hasn't changed. They've just put math into it to adjust the number down to more realistic levels. This could work to Ford's advantage. If the numbers are pessimistic and buyers actually meet or exceed them, rather than falling short, that could make the buyers happier because expectations are being met. I guess time will tell. Ted
  2. The Taurus X has essentially the same drive train as the Edge and that can tow 3500 lbs IF you get the factory towing package. However, the Taurus X has no such tow package available from the factory although aftermarket hitches and wiring kits are readily available. The Edge package includes a larger radiator and transmission cooler along with the receiver and wiring harness. The Taurus X could probably tow 3500 lbs if it was done occasionally but without the increased cooling capacities I don't think I'd make a habit of it.
  3. LOL! Yeah, it sure took a sharp left turn and down a dead end street. I have an X on order myself and would like to see some more information on it besides the same dozen or so pictures that have been circulating for months now and the limited information. My experience has been similar to 2000SableWagon's. We looked at 8 different vehicles from 6 different manufacturers, including those he mentions, and came to the same conclusion. The Taurus X is about the best balanced package between size, cost, fuel economy and features. I hope Ford realizes what it has here and re-launches the Taurus X with a lot harder sales pitch than they gave the Freestyle.
  4. There's a much clearer version of it here: http://www.blip.tv/file/269053/
  5. In the YouTube walk around of the Taurus X I'm pretty sure that there is a power steering fluid tank on the right side of the engine compartment, just like the current Freestyle, when they're showing us around under the hood. I also found the 2008 Taurus owners manual at www.fleet.ford.com and on pages 301 and 302 it discusses checking the power steering fluid. My estimate is that the plan changed after those early press notices were released.
