  1. I had a woman ask me to move her husband's Eldo around that time - she wouldn't drive it. It was huuuuuge. donald_trump.jpg

I remember a whole bunch of stuff happening automatically: lights going on and off, brakes engaging and releasing, doors locking and unlocking, servos whirring, a robot making me coffee..... I'd like a list of all the automatic stuff - so I can know if my memory is playing tricks on me or not.

I would love to show off my dad's 76 Eldorado convertible that I customized in 84'. I set the cruise at 60 and decided to take a nap at 3:30 in the morning and tried to take out a 15 to 20 foot diameter tressel that held up an over pass. It was like hitting a concrete wall. I had help getting out of the car but I barely remember as I was 21 at the time and was badly injured. I do remember walking around thinking "my dad is going to kill me" it had 35k on it and he was keeping it for a collectors item. I will post the pics in a day or 2 but I need to get up in the garage attic to get them. I know where they're at but I need to move out the GT500 and it's raining here. maybe tomorrow. It's hard to imagine how short the front end of those cars could get....

  2. Willy: What the hell you need Opels (ball bearings) for?

Fletch: Awww, come on guys, it's so simple. Maybe you need a refresher course.

[leans arm on hot engine part]

Fletch: Hey! It's all Opels (ball bearings) nowadays.

You gonna use the whole fist Doc.?

    Ugh.

    Whatever!!!

I used to be a big NASCAR fan back in the early 70's through the early 90's. It is now beyond rediculous. I wish it would just go away and at the very least I wish Ford would pull out entirely. It's become an embarassment. I haven't watched it for years and I would love to see the domestic manufacturer's go somewhere else with their money.

  4. Did Ford get rid of the "command seating" that the 500 and previous gen Taurus had in the 2010 model? I was driving the parents Sable to the auto parts store today to get a tool for the Mustang and I really don't like how high I was sitting up in it.

Overall its was a decent driving experience out side of the seating position.

I completely agree with you, I hate the "Command Seating". I love the seating in my 03 LS and wish the Taurus was more like that.

  5. Think of it this way, if they ran stock bodies then the aerodynamic's would be so bad (comparitively) then the speeds would be quite a bit lower. Tight racing at 150mph instead of restrictor plate induced tight racing and subsequent crashes at 190mph. :shades:

Not to take issue as I agree with part of what you said but the last generation Thunderbird was probably the last of the so called "stock bodies" to race NASCAR and I think Bill Elliott holds a track record or 2. Then comes the LUMINA that they widened the ass-end on to be competitive so they could create Jeff Gordon. I was a huge NASCAR fan for 2 and a half decades but haven't watched a race for 3 years. They've ruined it. And the whole hight banks thing is silly to me, they opened Daytona in 1949 and ran stock bodies until the mid 90's. I hope NASCAR dies a slow death and I too wait for a stock car series with "Stock Bodies"

  6. When can we expect the 10 MY to be available for shipping for the Escape. I tried to talk the wifey into the Edge but she's really fixed on the Escape. Nothing but Ford for this family.

Her sister is coming in from Phoenix in mid October and she wants a new vehicle for the "show off" factor (besides her 96 Taurus wagon is due to be replaced and has been an excellent vehicle) and asked me if we would be able to order and have one delivered by then. Plus she has never bought a brand new vehicle and I really want to her to experience that at least once in her life. Also does anybody know if there will be any notable color option changes by then. She really likes the Sage Green or Silver as a second option.

I visit this sight daily and I just haven't seen any mention of the Escape as far as the 10 MY although I'm sure something has been posted that I simply overlooked.

  7. Where's the mention of supplier problem/defect?

Same place it was in the media with any Ford issues leading to recalls in the past. One would have to come here to BON for the justification for those. For those looking for an explanation of yoda's short-comings one would probably have to visist a Toyota Forum.

I myself don't care as I enjoy watching the unraveling of this juggernaut.

Do what I'm doing---sit back and enjoy the show!

  8. Its such a shame. I really like the LS. Im keeping my eye out for a good deal on a fully loaded 06.

I think the LS is a more of a lincoln than the MKZ. Don't get me wrong, the MKZ is a nice car its just not the LS.

Now the MKS is a nice car. Just wish it was a bit sportier.

Ahh, where do I begin with the LS? I bought a used 2000 that later proved to be a rebuild from a near total but I loved the car's ride. I got rid of it because it had tons of issues so like a fool I bought a brand new 03 LS. I still have this car and it has caused me no problems aside from regular maintenance. My problem with the car is that my wife won't let me get a fiesta or new focus, fusion, MKZ, or anything else I want untill this thing needs replaced. It shows no signs of dying and I bet I have this car another 4 or 5 years. I love this car and I told a working coleague just the other day that I always look forward to driving this car. This is the best car I've ever bought and I've been true-blue Ford since 89' Our most recent purchase was an 07 Black/Red Shelby GT500 but I love my LS V8. No door dings, 56000 miles, paid off, and no problems. My wife gets the next new one and she won't sway from an Edge even after I showed her the new Taurus, which she liked.

  9. What MOJO its never had any ever in Europe we have much better diesel cars.

Its only you daft Americans that are propping up the Japanese CRAP company and nobody else, over 50% of Toyota profits worldwide are made Stateside.

Spot on! I was amazed after 9/11 at all the Jap Crap driving around with American flags proudly waving in the wind, but not this daft American. I have bought only Fords since 1989 after switching from GM cars. Ford is all I have bought since and we currently have 4 between my wife and myself. I will NEVER by Jap or any other Asian vehicles, NEVER.

  10. Some day Ford needs to stop listening to the drag racers, and give us a more modern Mustang.

    Spot on!

My GT500 wheel hooped like it would shake everything loose in the car until I changed the upper control arm and the lower control arms.

After a year of ownership I finally know what it's like to really light it up!

As far as comparing to the SR8, the SR8 has less horse power and its heavier. And the Shelby GT500 is not light coming in at a little over 3900lbs.

I can't speak to the Camaro SS......

  11. ...an MKX. Here are pics (click full size to view in hig-res)

    http://www.mikekukielka.com/gallery/v/2007+Lincoln+MKX/

I turned in the Lincoln LS for an MKX. I LOVE the car but regret the crummy looking chrome clad 18" rims and halogen lamps (adaptive, but still halogen).

It's fully loaded, including trailer tow package. I went with the Graystone interior, in fact I insisted they get me one of these apparently rare colors.

It's very quiet and surprisingly powerful. The transmission is silky and the engine is no louder than the absurdly silent V8 in the LS. The car has great highway manners with good passing power. Braking is good, but could be better. Steering is perfect, actually better than the MKZ but the car leans and rolls quite a bit if you take corners harder than 15mph. Wind noise levels are fine with the exception of some noise from antennae just in front of the vista roof (this seems unfortunate and avoidable since the MKZ has no such radio antennae). The interior is just spectacular, I like it so much better than the MKZ which feels considerably cheaper and poorly designed in comparison. From the halogen lighting to the tasteful neatness of the design, I couldn't be happier on the inside. And lets not forget the amazing THX sound system which is MUCH better than the version in the MKZ (the Aviator sound was about as spectacular).

I definitely don't get the looks anymore, the car sort of blends in with the Rendezvous and Pacificas of the world, but my view from the inside is so much better.

Overall the car is a lot of fun to drive and play with and a good trade for the LS since both cars have features the other doesn't so you can't compare apples to oranges. I lose something but I get something else in return....V8 power or AWD....Sex appeal or Navigation...and so on;)

Congrats big time on the new ride!

I still have an 03 LS in vivid red and absolutely love the car. The wife wants an Edge bad but we want to finish paying off the LS and keep it too.

I have never had a car that I love to drive more than our LS and we even have a GT500 (07), but nothing compares.

still, big time congratulations on your new car, I'd own one in a second...

  12. That is the one major concern I have. Trade imbalances due to protectionism. I generally fall pretty much on the side of no protectionism and no retaliation. However, the US auto industry is one place I wish the Unions were strong enough to push congress to enact some protections.

Any country that gets itself into the auto mfg. industry has made a huge technological leap. That is all great for them. But I don't think it should be on the backs of American workers. I say treat these other countries and their VATs like other countries treated us when we went into Iraq. We can use the same exact argument. It is not right for you to have the VAT. It is not right for us to pay it. It is not fair to ask it of us.

I say push hard on the Asian contries Japan particularly and also Germany. They have worked their angle till it has rubbed raw a wound that is close to never healing.

But, congress likely never will. And at some point in the future we are going to look back and be able to point out the last possible moment when we could have done this, but let that point in time pass with out a word.

    Peace and Blessings

Pardon me for not knowing the VAT acronym but I can tell you I will never buy an Asian car and can't see me buying European either, why? Our idea of free and fair trad has never been free or FAIR. It's the last place I can support American workers. I am not employed by the auto industry nor is any member of my family. Plus, I'm not against protectionism as long as foriegn companys continue to play ball like this. I know the arguments that we allow it to happen (the unfair trading) and therefore I look at me buying American (Ford Products) soley as a grassroots movement. I don't care if the car I buy is made in Mexico either, at least it's an American company. Before the flaming starts, I've not yet bought a Ford that wasn't built almost entirely here in America.

I might feel different if I bought a Ford that i thought was a piece of crap and felt like I really got burned but I've been very satisifed. To all the Ford emploees here---keep up the good work. The Lincoln LS will be paid off in a year and the wife once an Edge bad. I have a Shelby GT500 and a 93 F-250 and she currently drive a 96 Taurus wagon.

  13. Personally, I could easily replace my present Taurus with a 2008 Fusion V6 no problem. With Sync, ambient lighting, entry keypad, heated seats, I would be in car heaven. The V6 Fusion with 221 hp is plenty fast for me and I know I could easily pull 30mpg on highway with it as I pull 29 mpg out of my present 24 valve Taurus.

But I am a loyal Ford buyer, and wouldn't even consider other brands. Ford can no longer worry about loyalists like me. They have to gear the Fusion to the Camry/Accord/Altima buyer. The Fusion needs more power from all its engines and better fuel economy very soon. For me, getting a little more power and few miles more/gallon is just a bonus and nothing more. Even a new center stack is just a bonus and not much else to me. I could care less if my vehicle goes 0-60 in 7 seconds or 6.3 seconds. My present 24 valver probably does it in around 8 seconds flat. No big deal for me, but I know many buyers out there want to know their vehicle is competitive in every way and they won't put it on list if it isn't.

So please Ford...benchmark the Accord/Camry/Altima and beat it. Beat them in performance, fuel mileage, and interior comfort. The Fusion already leads in looks, handling, and quality. The comfort level is close, and Ford has the dealership base to make this vehicle excellent in sales. Don't just try to pull even, beat them and go past them so that they have to catch up to you. Engine performance and fuel mileage can't be that hard. Performance should be easy to beat, with fuel mileage more challenging, but doable. The Fusion is so close and so far away at the same time. I really hope Ford gets the freshening right and can blow by the Japanese in every way. The Camry is already almost two years old and beatable.

    I couldn't agree with you more....Well put!

  14. This should do wonders for the economy and everything else... :banghead:

    http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/071002/100_oil_outlook.html?.v=1

I agree it will do wonders for the economy.

This whole oil game has played havic to the economy and it's just a game. A game of fear and intimidation. We (the U.S.) capped perfectly fine oil wells starting in the late 70's and we're playing the game of "hey let's use the the rest of the worlds oil first" and it's nothing more than greed. Greed of the U.S. oil companies and the wonderful world of capitalism taking money from our pockets and putting it in theirs and all in the name of fear.

The reality is that this will wreck our economy as the focus continues to shift to Asia as they become the worlds consumers replacing the good ole U.S. of A. We will look like old Europe within our life time.

  15. All Ford has to do is strip the bodies off and show the difference in chassis, Then have some rock crawler competitors explain why they box their frames for competition!

I guess I'm just old fasioned at the ripe old age of 45 but I'll never buy asian when it comes to vehicles. I have no intention to buy European either and don't see it happening. I've never felt like I bought a piece of $hit buying Ford, if I did, I might feel different. I did feel that way buying GM years ago (coming froma a staunch GM family) which is why I buy Fords today. I live in Indiana and a guy I work with bought a Tundra and bragged about it helping Indiana as it was made here. I told him I didn't care if yota brought a crew of 50 assemblers up to my house and built it in my garage I wouldn't buy one. My truck is a 93 F-250 and when it finally dies I'll buy whatever the next generation of F-250 is available then. Of course it will have to wait until the Shelby GT500 is paid for. Proudly I state "My Blood Runs True Blue". By-the-way, my Lincoln LS is over 4 years old and I truly love it and I look forward to driving it everytime I get in it.
