  1. And that is one opinion. Looking at the front end of the Acadia, it to me looks very strange. The side profile also looks very bloated. At first I didn't like the Flex, but I have warmed to it. The inside is amazing, and the seats will be far more accommodating. Have you ever seen the middle and bak seats on an Acadia. Unless your 3...they look pretty small. The Enclave is nice, but the MKT will be as well. I think Ford has is right. They have many crossover offerings spread over only 2 brands.

I looked at an Enclave (and Acadia) at the auto show today....I honestly wasn't overly impressed by either. While they look nice, the footwell seemed uncomfortable to me and the way the center armrest is was just odd to me. Now, it doesn't help that neither had power, so I couldn't adjust the seat, but I'm not sure that would've solved the entire problem. I was also surprised at the low quality of materials in the Acadia. I was expecting better. The Enclave's materials were good though.

  2. I looked at a regular (non-hybrid) Escape Limited (I believe) today at the auto show....and noticed the exposed screws in the door handle cups. I then remembered that the same complaint was made about the Edge's exposed screws in the same spot. Ford solved this problem by placing a simple square shaped pad of some sort of soft material in the cup....anyways, my question is, why doesn't Ford simply do the same thing for Escape?

  3. I sat in a 2008 Mercury Mountaineer at the St.louis autoshow in january and i got into the mounty with no problem but getting out was something different. I had one heck of a hard time finding the door release lever. I thought i was blind but then i saw something shiney so i pushed it and that did not release the door then i pulled it and sure enough it released the door. I was laughing at myself because i could not find it. Although the mountaineer is a nice family hauler. The door release lever it has is something i would not want and another thing. Ford did not add that kind of release lever in the 2nd row for those doors, Weird.

I sat in an 08 Explorer today at the Fort Lauderdale auto show. I wanted to sit in a Mountaineer but I didn't have enough time (had to meet family for Easter dinner). Anyways.....the door release mechanisms are the same (chrome release lever) in the front and rear....but one thing I found odd is that, even though Ford changed the door pull design for the front doors (into the armrest, not in the awkward position below the armrest) in the front, they did not change the rear door design...it still has the grab handle below the armrest....I was not amused or impressed by this lack of effort on Ford's part.

  4. Do you have any idea why Ford is not pushing this like GM and Nissan are? GM has toolboxes, ladder racks and all kinds of extra goodies for their system. It just seems strange that they put forth the effort to design it and they don't promote it. Thanks for the reply.

Maybe Ford figures since F-150 is at the end of it's product cycle, they don't wanna advertise it?

But at the same time, that could help to sell 08 models left over before the 09's get here.

BTW, I saw the 09 F-150, it looked great. The interior looks awesome! My dad like some of the new features.....although he said he likes the 97-03 front end better than either his current 04 (-08) or the new design.

  5. Please take a look at the top line performance of Ford recently. Due to better net -pricing along with strong sales everywhere but NA, Ford has increased top line performance consistently through the 4th Qtr of last year. That is something GM can't say and we can all assume that Chryco certainly can't say it either but we also can't prove otherwise due to their private status.

Accusing Mulally of being a cost cutter is like calling a person who shoots rabid dogs a dog killer. Point being, the first step in getting on the right path for any of the Big 3 is to get rid of overpaid, unnecessary employees. Anybody in their right mind would realize that was the first step in turning the ship around. That was more a result of the UAW finally realizing that the glass house that they had built over the last 25 years was about to crash down and they would be left with next to no union dues if the Big 3 all went away.

Mulally will eventually be judged on his ability to take the egos out of Ford. The egos I speak of are the ones that made it nearly impossible for Ford NA and Ford Europe to communicate. The egos that made decisions the same way because that was the they learned it 30 years ago.

His desire to not let product dangle in the wind until the next redesign. Since his arrival just about every vehicle that has been introduced has had significant updates each subsequent year after introduction. The next example of this is the Escape/Mariner. Both are already quasi-hits only to continue their strong performances with the new engine/tranny configurations out this summer.

Instead of criticizing him for the one thing he had no choice in, perhaps you should look at the things he has done and will do to insure that their is a future for Ford. A person with common business sense can seem like a real genius when inserted in an industry run by egomaniacal "car guys" such as Mr. Foot in Mouth Lutz over at GM. In the end Mulally will be remembered for doing alot more good for Ford than Lutz or Wagoner will ever be remembered for doing at GM.

    Well said.

  6. One would think (not sure why), that Ford would have enough common sense to have a vehicle that is going on sale rather soon (meaning well before next years auto show), and that IS VERY IMPORTANT, on the floor for people to play with. No, instead they have that abortion of a Focus (many) and the RANGER!! Why, Why on earth would Ford have a Ranger. That great little truck is hated inside FMC about as much as the Panthers (or unique designs).

Would you not call Edge a unique design. I would include Flex but you'd mention it's supposed xB roots.

That said, I do agree that it should be on the floor by now, escpecially if it goes on sale this summer.

When I get to my local show, I'll let ya'll know if it was on a stand or on the floor.

  7. Richard is right, that is the better one. There actual painting done by monkeys, the first one was from the monkey formerly known as Congo. I forgot to mention it in the first sentence, the point was, Fawley giving an award to that crap that most pre-school kids can do a better job at. I was trying to find the roof from a Mini-Cooper done in checkerboard. The roof of the Flex WILL end up as an advertising spot. it's already being done on the Mini.

I forgot about the Mini getting stuff on it's roof. That said, you're probably right that stuff will get stuck on there.

  8. Wish all you want...but Ford, in their infinite stupidity, had one up on a turn-table at our auto show.

Meanwhile, Chrysler had tons of minivans out along with Toyota and Honda.

    Oops...

Well, based on the fact that those minivans have been out for years in 2 of those cases, I'd hope they're on the floor. And even if it's on the stand, I'd still be happy to see it (again).
