  1. Oh, but when Ford does it it's OK?

The Malibu rides on a revised version of the Epsilon platform. Much like the MKTaurus rides on a recycled Taurus platform (which is an already an old recycled Volvo platform).

But the Taurus and Malibu are not in the same class...so why even bring it up. It competes with the Fusion...and how many comparisons are there out there between the Malibu and the Fusion?

Come to think of it, I don't think I've seen a Fusion/Malibu comparison yet.

  2. Not sure if someone has posted something similar I'm sure they have but could Ford get by with a basic dual mode hybrid system similar to the new malibu and cylinder deactivation system that Dodge currently uses in their "hemi" engines? Wouldn't that help create the needed improvement for fuel mileage based on current Cafe standards? I'm not saying combine the three companies systems, which might not be a bad idea to help with costs and bring the American market share back to what it was, but use similar systems if they want to keep it to themselves. Just a thought going through my head. Oh, yea, hello everyone, i'm new here, as if your couldn't tell

Welcome to Blue Oval Forums! I hope you enjoy your time here!

  3. Although 2012 is only a few years away....in automotive sales terms, it is an eternity. F-150 is going to be bigger and the gap between F-150 and Ranger will be Grand Canyon in scope.

How about this in the interim? Ford still produces the last gen F-150 for the Mexican market, bring that one north, put the F-100 badge on it, and I would bet it would sell a bunch of 'em.

    http://www.ford.com.mx/vehicles/homevehicle.asp?idModel=F15

PS...the truck sells for 166,200 pesos in Mexico....that converts to 15,239 and some change....not too bad. and I think that is before any rebates, I don't read "mexican" well, so I think it is some sort of rebate or discount after that amount....any help out there from our bi-lingual BON bloggers??

That is an interesting idea. I don't think Ford would do it either. First, if I were a truck customer I don't think I'd want a truck that's "brand new" when its really 10 years old (design-wise), plus IIRC, you can buy a new current generation F-150 for not too much more than that. The only advantage bringing that over would be for price and if there is a tariff, you'd lose some of that price advantage right there. Also, I'm not sure how magazines would take it either (not that it matters too much), but I'd think it could result in some bad press for Ford, and they've had their fair share of that already.

  4. About Wixom:

I dont know where you get all the information about it being such an awful plant... since as of May 31, 2007 it received an award for being the best manufacturing facility in the world ( I dont recall the exact name of the award), but it was really nice that it won just as it was closing.

It makes perfect sense to me to move the TC to St Thomas. Why not have all the same platform vehicles built in the same place?

As for the Ranger, I'm hearing that in 2009 it will get a complete re-do, which is interesting since many have been postulating that it will end production very soon.

CV/GM may not have a big following with the younger folks, but with the fleet buyers it's good as gold. I just read an article today about it, why 94% of taxis in New York

City are Crown Vics...it's because they are workhorses and can EASILY rack up 300,000 miles with no trouble. NYC CV Taxi's average 100,000 miles PER YEAR, running 24 hours a day.

Plus, keep in mind that most GM buyers are older, and the population of this country is getting older by the minute. Product makers chase the teenyboppers and 20-somethings like crazy, and forget that the VAST majority of our population are OLD. That's just not right.

All my years of Crown Vic/Marquis ownership have been completely trouble free, and so have my mom's and sister's. They're the best cars around, and I salute every person at STAP for making such fine vehicles!

I believe Wixom's award was for most productive or something.

Yet another Ranger rumor I see.

I agree about your comment that it'd be smart to cater to older folks as well as younger people. Ford needs to go after younger buyers to bring new customers into the Ford brand as well as retain older customers. Also, those older customers can pass on their like of Ford vehicles to their families and friends.

  5. I saw one at the Honda dealer in OKC, OK. That was back when they were introduced. Lots of fanfare. No sales.

Last week I "drag raced" one with my wifes 98 Escort. I would go a little bit faster when they would speed up, just keeping the front bumper in front of theirs... So we get to the next light and they floor it. I guess they didn't like that crap American POS staying infront of them. HA! I floored it as well! Spun the tires even! Well they got ahead of me after about a quarter of a mile. I was well over 80mph and starting to loose so I backed off. I guess they showed me! That was the second one that I have seen.

    That's funny. LOL.

  6. I saw a new Focus commercial today. It showed off the Focus' 35 mpgs.

It starts out with two guys going on a road trip, one says I'll pay for the food, and you'll pay for the gas. Then they go a ways, and buy a bunch of stuff at a convenience store, then a diner. It then shows them driving past several gas stations, followed by a view of the gas guage, where it says half full. Then the one guy who said he'll buy the food said he'll buy the gas next time.

I didn't think it was a bad commercial.

Have any of you seen it yet?

  7. What I want to know is why the heck do they have to drive the freaking grill on every one of their damn vehicles.

I get so sick of having everything have the same basic look.

The 3 bar grill would have looked just fine on just a Fusion / Taurus....

Who in the Hell is in charge of the design...

The Expedition has to look like the F150, oh wait, lets give the Ranger and Explorer the same look too..

The Super Duty had a look of it's own.. It didn't have to look like an F150 and it was a success.....

They can't share the damn grills and headlights by making them resemble each other so by gawd give it a different look and attract other people that don't like the flavor of the next 10 years.....

    Jeeeehz...

Well, that grille seems to be getting the attention of customers. If you didn't notice, most of the vehicles w/ the new grille have increasing sales year to year.

  8. A few quick things:

1st. You can not use the next F150 frame and solid axles. The frame will be made for IFS. Not to mention, it's too big, too wide, and too heavy for use in a Bronco the size of the concept.

2nd, 2 door full size SUV's do not sell these days. Thats why there are none offered.

There would defiantly not be different size Bronco's with all the other full size SUV's out there.

I think his idea was to have the new Bronco be larger than the concept.

  9. I am sorry to report that Broward Sheriff had decided to change its fleet over to the Hemi Charger. Was told by a deputy just the other day it will be a gradual change. He was not happy with the news. Was told by a deputy back in 06 when they got a few test cars the Charger was joke as it had no trunk room, blind spots, and overall was not really cut out for police work as the Crown Vic was so I was really surprised when the Sheriffs office decided to go with the Charger.

Miami-Dade and Miami Beach both have Impalas mixed in with their fleet but not sure if they are changing the entire fleet.

BTW the F.H.P. has just ordered 26 Chargers for testing.

So Broward Sheriff is going to be all Chargers? That's gonna be strange. I guess FLPD (Fort Lauderdale) will still be Crown Vics, I'm not sure they even tested a Charger, at least I haven't seen one.

I know a relative of mine is a cop and the Crown Vic is his favorite squad car for the same reasons you said. He currently drives a pre 06 Impala.

I've noticed the Miami-Dade Impalas when I've been down to Miami a few times.

  10. I'm seeing more ads for the Honda Ridgeline on Primetime TV lately. Although they don't include any rebates, when someone advertises something, it's to sell more. (duh!)

But, here in Raleigh, NC I might see one of these things every few days. Not exactly setting the world on fire.

Does anyone actually own one of these, or know someone who does? Do they have some sort of "cult following" like the Pontiac Aztec? I see far more SportTracs, which seems to be the closest competitor.

Do these things sell at all? Thoughts?

I don't know anybody that owns one. I really don't see too many of them anymore either. I've seen new ads for it recently though.

I think the new Chuck Norris Ridgeline ad is stupid -- the Tough meets Classy one (or whatever it says).

  11. Don't use it. I can't hold him accountable for his insults if others are allowed to insult him.

I think he's a banned member creating a new account; regardless, we don't need this stuff here.

Or rather, we have a sufficiency of it, and don't need any more.

Very well, I agree, I don't like having all these insults and stuff posted everywhere either.
