At $4 A Gallon, Will We See A Ford Diesel Car
ShockFX replied to mlhm5's topic in Ford Motor Company Discussion Forum
This was lost in another post, but it bears repeating. Ford Global has a stable of efficient, clean diesel engines. They have decided it's not worth bringing them here yet. Does Toyota have a stable of proven diesel engines? -
Chrysler Smacks Down Hillary Clinton
ShockFX replied to range's topic in Ford Motor Company Discussion Forum
I think the FD went away during Regan's administration. -
Because it's a fact that certain races have higher crime rates. So SUV's comments about the US having higher violent crime rates are negligible when you consider racial and socioeconomic make up of the country. Poor and minorities have higher violent crime rates. Turns out, crack dealers kill more people on average than investment bankers.

Cash on hand doesn't mean that much. Cash flow statements tell you a lot more about how they are doing cash wise. For example, that $27B Ford has in cash, a lot was borrowed. Also, those margin numbers don't mean anything while neither is profitable. By those numbers, Ford has 80% the inventory value of GM but has 50-60% of the GM sales. You are spot on about how GM should be peaking now. That Fortune guy is total hack. Escort? The F-150 doesn't compete with the Ram. Think of the Ram owners you know, and think of the F-150 owners you know. Pretty different. What the hell is this guy talking about higher warranty costs? I think he mixed up GM and Ford numbers. Or, given the Escort reference, is using numbers from 1999. "GM promises that the Malibu will be more profitable than its predecessor." OH SHIT. GM PROMISES!!! In that case, I guess Ford should just give up. Just ridiculous. "Still, simple logic dictates that GM has the edge. Rick Wagoner became CEO in 2000 and put together the key members of his management team several years ago." Yeah, geniuses like Lutz. Mulally doesn't need outside talent, he is leveraging the people he has. Although getting Farley was brilliant.

You got all that from this? "vLook, if you want to say we shouldn't give health care to illegal mexicans just say it." That is also the most naive statement ever. "They will treat them but they will get a bill." Let's think about this, they shouldn't even be in the country, they probably have no money, but you actually THINK they pay the bill? Hahahahahahahaha. You can't enforce payment.

His lack of paragraphing, spelling, and punctuation makes my eyes bleed. Also, he just said people between 18 and 67 that don't pay in...that would include almost all college students, including the MD/JD/PHD students that go to school until age 30 or so. I assumed this was an attack on illegals getting healthcare, but I'd prefer to have him elaborate.

GM has a totally fresh SUV and truck lineup and isn't doing that well. GM has more capacity issues than Ford. GM had a $39B loss (non cash). Look at this however you want, but if it was to devalue tax credits for future use, this means GM is leaving FUTURE CASH on the table by not being profitable soon enough. Any $39B loss means there is some breakdown in the company. It's not like this just sneaks up on you. Also, the mortgage writedown was hidden in that number. GM has...etc. It's ironic I see this topic today. I just got back from lunch with person we're interviewing. We were talking about a janitor union's strike in Mass., and ended up on auto companies. He said something about GM being in a much better position than Ford, and I took the opportunity to educate him otherwise. Good to see the WSJ now onboard the train.

Not entirely true RJ, I always say what they should do.

I could paint it perfectly, but since there is no HARD proof, it's likely my argument will be ridiculed. I could come up with several close analogs, anecdotes, and series of events that would make it seem very likely. But, to be honest, I can't prove it. Edit: If you'd actually like to have a conversation about it, I'm open to it. But it would take me a couple hours to put together some facts and events to support my argument.

Ford. Compare the success at Boeing to the failure at Home Depot. It's not even close. Nardelli is perfect for the chop shop job soon to fall on Chrysler though.
