  11. The basics of the very involved story are this..... Brand new factory-ordered truck, came through with orange peel on a rear quarter panel. The dealer repainted the quarter panel, then scratched the clearcoat after painting. Since then, they have buffed and waxed the scratches twice, and they are still very visible. Since they obviously can't just buff and wax the damage out, they've offered to "strip and repaint" the entire quarter panel. From their explanation, it would mean stripping the paint and repainting it fresh. There is no damage to the underlying metal. After the failed attempts to repair the damage they caused, our confidence in the dealership's ability to fix this problem isn't too great. As a result, I'm trying to find out exactly what they should be doing during the repair. Unfortunately, they claim not to have any documents from Ford as to how to conduct the repair. Thanks!
  12. I'm trying to track down the factory specs on paint repair. Basically what I need is the info that tells the dealership "when you repair paint on a Ford SuperDuty, do the following things......" Can anyone help me? My dealer says he doesn't have anything like that, even though his auto body guys have been through Ford training, etc. to repair paint. (This is part of a much bigger issue, but right now I need to get a copy of the specs before I drop it off at the dealer again.)
  13. Thanks for the solid advice, everyone! Have to say, it's refreshing to get honest and practical advice and opinions from people instead of having someone bark at me to do this or do that (not on these forums, on others I was reading before I found this). We decided to go with the F250 V10 4.10 (wanted the 3.73 but it isn't available with the V10 anymore). We might have a little more power than we need for everyday stuff, but at least we know there won't be any problems with towing and will be a lot more comfortable going into the mountains, etc. The only bad thing is that no one in about a 300 mile radius of us has a truck that even remotely matches what we're looking for - and we're not even being all that particular. So we've ordered a truck (with the x-plan) and now have to play the waiting game. Sure am psyched about it though!
  14. Um, thanks for the reply? To be honest, I'm obsessed with getting the truck I want at the price I can afford. Since I can't pick money off the tree in the backyard, I'm looking for all possible options to save some off the total cost of the truck. So when someone says "here's a way for you to possibly save another $500," I look into it. I guess I didn't think it would be a big deal to ask about the rebate, but it seems I was wrong.
  15. Maybe a dealer could help me out with this. When I was talking with the dealer I'm ordering a truck through, he showed me a list of rebates and incentives compatible with the X-plan pricing. There was one on there listed as "2007/2008 Model Select Vehicles Target Gift Card Private Offer, PGM #38032, National." Under that it has "Ford Division is announcing the '2008 Focus Launch' Target Gift Card Private Offer, effective March 7, 2008. Program dates: 3/7/08 - 4/30/08. The dealer said he didn't know anything about it and I should contact Target. After speaking with about 6 different departments there, someone in the gift cards division told me it's a Ford-sponsored program that they participate in, but aren't doing the mailings for, etc. and I would have to contact Ford or a dealer for more information. I'm frustrated with the search at this point, but would still like to know how to qualify for the $500 rebate attached to the offer. If it's as easy as buying a Target gift card, I'm in! Does anyone have more info?
  16. Can anyone tell me when the April 2008 rebates and incentives will be announced? Is it on April 1st (that's what I'm assuming), or is it released a day or 2 before that? Thanks!
  17. I'm hoping someone can point out some differences for me and help me make a final decision. I'm ordering a 2008 F-250 SD XLT 4x4, and need to figure out which specs to go with. I definitely want to stay with gas, not diesel. So it's between the 5.4L 4.10 (not the 3.73) and the V10. I'm coming from a 2004 F-150 5.4L Triton 3.55. I tow a travel trailer at about 7000 lbs. About 80% of my driving is daily, and about 20% is towing. Obviously, I want enough truck to pull the trailer easily, but I won't be upgrading the trailer anytime soon, and I don't want more truck than necessary, since I have to think about gas costs, etc. Opinions I've gotten so far are really extreme - either love the V10 and hate everything else, love the V8 and can't imagine going for more, or hate all things gas and try to talk me into a diesel. I'm still gathering all opinions - extreme, gray area, and anything else. Thanks!
