  1. I'm not an MBA either, but I've seen by working on the "outside" that a company can tie up profits with assets to keep from passing it down to us peons at the bottom. I wouldnt be so sure Ford won't do that with debt paydown. I'm not trying to beat a dead horse, it just sounds logical to me. But hey, debt paydown is good for the company which is good for us if you look at the big pic......and no, I'm not a company man.
  2. If they use some of that profit to pay down their debt, it may affect part of the profit sharing equasion
  3. Uh...What's a Millwright? Just a joke
  4. Remember, this thread is about Repubs boycotting GM. I'm just saying the Dems boycott GM too and put it into action. Why pin it on the Repubs? It seems the unions ought to rethink who their friends are in Washington. I worked for a defense plant under the Steelworkers for 16 yrs. The union wholeheartedly supported the Dem party although it was the Dems who wanted to take away our work and the Repubs wanting to keep us in work. UAW does the same thing. Anyway, don't get me wrong, I love going to Ann Arbor, despite their liberal leanings and whiney bumper stickers, for the same reasons you state, the mom and pop shops and restaraunts. But I would blame all that on the college kid clientelle and the cramped layout of the campus area, not Dem support. You can't exactly put a McDonalds on the corner of Packard and S. Division, but you can take an old house there and put in a Blimpie Burger. Besides AA has it's share of chain stores too, just like the big mean Republican strongholds. Don't get me started about NAFTA. We all know who started that.
  5. Have any of you ever been to the Peoples Republic of Ann Arbor? Sure you have. What are all the LEFT wing liberals who largely inhabit that city driving? Not many GM's, Ford's or Chryslers. You can't boycott American car companys any worse than they do. Wake up.
  6. All I can say is Ol' Man Henry wouldn't like any of this
  7. You're at B-Town PRC and you used to work at WSP? If you're a MW, then you're narrowing yourself down to 1 of 6 people. All six of you guys are missed here at WSP. I hope to see y'all again sometime. So you think WG's are a dying breed? I have to admit some of us shouldn't have been allowed to breed, or at least the parents shouldn't have been, but I sure hope we're around for a while.
  8. I am at WSP. They want other trades to do "minor" welding. I just want to kind of take the pulse at other plants to see if managements wants are plausable. We're arguing the point, but if other plants are already doing it, then our arguments are going to be ultimately useless I guess.
  9. "They're" trying to whittle away at the Welder General trade at our plant. Management's notion is that there're are a lot of hobbiest welders out there that can do some of our less critical work. To me that's a start to a slippery slope. I was just wondering if this is a trend at other Ford plants and if it's commonplace for other trades to do their own "simple" welding. I've never been to another plant, so I don't know.
  10. '04 F-150 FX4, 5.4L, 51,000 mis. I have changed the oil every 5,000 mis. with Motorcraft synth. blend. The engine has always been loud, so I assumed that's the way that engine sounds. (Although my son's Lariat doesn't sound like that) But since my last oil change, the tick has seemed to get louder. Oil level is good. Is this normal? Is this a dumb question? :shades:
  11. Seeing how we now have to use it or lose it, there is a mad rush to schedule vacation before May 31. A lot of us have been laid off quite a bit in the past year and have a lot of vac time left we don't want to lose, so this question may not be as mundane as it sounds. Who gets priority on conflicting vac request dates if the company doesn't want too many out, seniority or 1st come 1st served?
  12. Damn! What a prick! If I have to hand over my job to a 20yr person, it could very well be because a 35 yr "person" won't get outa the way. In my world, the 35 yr shoulda-beens won't get off their ass, even if they had the talent, to do their jobs. I would imagine that's where you are, DetroitFanz. It's lazy ass brownholes like you that give the union a bad name. This younger generation that you obviously loath, is the future of our company that wil support your decrepid retired ass on day, if that day ever comes.
