  1. Purchased an '06 Mercury Milan (V-6, Premier, etc.) last year from a little old lady in Detroit (my mom) It was her baby. So... now the 6-disk CD player acting up. Have seen this posted on a couple of other amateur forums but either there is no fix or they are not visited much. Thought I'd come back to my old standby! So, CD player/changer (six-disc). When it's good it is very good; when it is bad, it is very bad. Insert a disk: "Reading Disk" message appears, never goes away. Cannot load, unload, move up or down. When I have an open slot, I try to "Load", changer does not move. Get 'load error". On occasion it works fine. But has been messing up more recently. Problem occurs with commercial and 'home-made' CD's. Can't seem to figure a pattern. Recently I unloaded all six discs. Let it take a vacation. Yesterday, loaded a disk in anticipation of an hour of music driving down to Vermillion (SD). Pressed "CD". Got nothing but "Reading Disc". Very occasionally in the past I've gotten "disc error" but not for awhile. (I'm guessing you all are saying "Okay, we get it!" But I need to vent. Sorry! Otherwise, love the Milan!) Is there a warranty on these things? Warranty (if one) separate from car? Is this a known issue? Is there a fix besides replacement? Assuming it eventually fixes itself spontaneously (which HAS occurred, rarely) any thoughts on preventive maintenance? You all have been really helpful! Last time I posted with a remote key not working. You gave me the reset fix that my local dealer in Sioux Falls (there is only one) was shocked that I had "found out about". I had to bring it in for something else, and he made it sound like it was supposed to be some big secret to consumers. I don't know what he would have charged me for a 'new' key! So I'm hoping I can get some tips, tricks, or commiseration! Thanks.
  2. 2004 Milan. A few weeks ago my key no longer works as a remote. I thought the battery died so I replaced it, but it didn't fix it. Today, without thinking, I locked the car door manually before stepping out, and now the key won't turn in the lock to unlock the door. It does work on the trunk. Don't know whether these are two seperate issues or not. Thanks.
  3. Good point. Is that Mobil 1 synthetic 5w-20 reference in the owners manual? Also, is there an issue if the temps get above a hundred as they sometimes do in the summer? It'd be nice to just stick with one type. Thanks.
  4. Thanks. Good ideas. The weather here is so harsh and we really alternate between short in town hops and then long 8 hour 85 mph jaunts to the Mt. Rushmore side of the state. It seems like the thing now is the brakes and the tires (neither have been serviced) but the transmission thing is a good idea. Should I be asking for a multi-grade oil like 5W-30 or a specific weight? Also, what do folks think about synthetic oil? Thanks.
  5. We just inherited a 2006 Milan Premier. We would like to make it last forever, as they say. Other than "change the oil every 3,001 miles, we would appreciate any other reasonable suggestions for helping this car last as long as possible. This is the best car we will or will ever own and we really wan to hang on to it. Are there known problems we should be saving up our money for? (Which is not alot). Someone said keep air conditioning filters changed. I'd like some real advice. Thanks. It's the 'top of the line' Milan with basically everything. (My mother liked to ride in style.) It just turned 45,000 miles. Thanks. Oh, we live in South Dakota. The car came from Michigan.
  6. How can I find out the recommended service/maintenance schedule for 2006 Milan? Also, is it important to adhere strictly to the recommended schedule or are there things I can consider as "optional"? I want this car to last me a long time, but I don't want to have service done that isn't really necessary.
  7. I purchased a 2006 Milan in Michigan and when I got back to South Dakota (where we are required to have front and back plates) there was no bracket on the front. I went in to the dealership and was sold a plastic license plate holder, which also included two, two-and-half inch long pop rivets (?) It seems like there is nowhere to put these on the grill. Any suggestions would be appreciate. Or other thoughts on alternative solutions? Thanks.
