  1. Here's an introductory ad to the campaign:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNqwdGaheCM

Lincoln are also posting the following ads on their YouTube page: www.youtube.com/user/lincoln

I personally think the execution is brilliant - the setting and environment is right, the music is absolutely spot on, the people are well into the target market (finally!) and it's still somewhat light hearted enough to not get people alienated via smugness.

I like this ad...does not attack a specific competitor.

  2. Look, when you're the top vehicle in the segment, you don't need to acknowledge the competition.

The MKZ is decidedly *not* the top vehicle in the segment.

The difference between the F150 & the MKZ is that the F150 is the 'default' choice for a pickup buyer. The MKZ isn't the default choice for a luxury car buyer, therefore, you have to give people a reason to buy your product. And that includes highlighting exclusive features.

I agree about showing reasons to buy it, but why not advertise it without attacking the SPECIFIC competitors , in the same manner as Cadillac has done with their recent ads? To me, you avoid gaining enemies! People buy a Lexus/BMW because it says LEXUS/BMW. Its all about prestige! I just think Lincoln can "highlight exclusive features" like Richard says...but try to avoid mocking the target. (I guess I should wait to see the commercial..but it appears that is the intent) . Lets all agree Lincoln needs a revolution...similar to Cadillac!!

  3. Lincoln needs to be careful with this kind of direct comparison while they are still ramping up feature content. There's still a bevy of features offered on a lot of Lexus vehicles that no Lincoln can offer, so they have to be aware of possible counterpunches.

Nick I echo your concerns. Do you notice that most , if not all, commercials that have one maker attacking the other (Eg..Ram/Chevy attacking F150) its because they've failed to lead in that segment and are left with simple 'attack' ads in a futile attempt to draw buyers. I think it simply reflects desperation and lack of integrity. I really don't think Lincoln should be using this type of ad as a comparison against the Lexus. I know how these Lexus owners feel about their cars...and , despite the clear fact that Lexus is NOT the advanced leader in product superiority it once was a decade ago...They live on with the "Prestige and Image' it reflects. Lincoln is batting at a bee hive that will only make these obstinate, close minded Lexus owners more of the same. Look at the majority of the Cadillac ads...they simply show the features of the car and not a direct comparison with the competition....! I think its a clear sign of desperation when you call out the brand you are competing with and try to attack it. Lack of integrity..and buyers see it!

  4. Awesome BobbyD, I'm celebrating my 1 year anniversary of my Fusion today. Great day to take delivery.

Thanks Chris. Daughter and son in law are speechless. They absolutely love the car...and really love Ford SYNC. They have numerous friends who own imports (Calif) and spent most of last evening showing the new Ford off. Hopefully, they can leave lasting impressions on them and perform some conversions! Ha! Ha! I'm glad that I don't have to worry about my daughter's unreliable VW breaking down and stranding her and my grand daughter anymore. Its a good day . I'm truly blessed.

  5.

Auto start/stop looks to be a late availability option on the SE model so hers probably doesn't have it. If it does it should say it on the window sticker.

Thanks! I'm kind of glad they didn't get that stop/start. I think its only purpose is to satisfy the tree huggers by possibly saving a few micro amounts of carbons. It seems like stopping and starting the engine all the time ...compared to not starting and stopping the engine all the time eventually creates more of a hardship and potential for things to go wrong? Whatever, today is the big day. Everyone is excited about the new car.

  6. Congrats on your daughters new fusion, mine is celebrating it's 1 year anniversary tomorrow. Tough trying to find the new engine specs, here's a link for all the engines including the 1.5. First link is engine specs and second link is horsepower/torque. Same as the 2.5 liter which I have.

Thanks for the article. The ONLY sad part with the purchase is the mandatory second license plate on the beautifully distinctive front grill. Ugh....That's an apparent California requirement!

Also have to pay an $8.75 recycle fee for the tires..includes the spare! Have a great day!

Thanks AJ for the info on the belt!

  7. My daughter is picking up her new 2014 Fusion (1.5 engine) tomorrow and is totally excited! The dealer has no specs on this 1.5 engine, but I read its quieter than the 1.6, which is being phased out. I am not sure if it has start/stop or not. It was built at Hermosillo in late July. Also was wondering if the rear seat belts are inflatable like with the Explorer. I read somewhere that is was suppose to be standard on the 2014 Fusion. Either way...the family is totally excited!

  8. I am really interested in the latest information about the new 2015 Ford Edge. I saw the front end blurred photos that are on Edmunds.com and it looks like a great challenger to the Equinox. I heard rumors of a June 2014 Job#1. I assume Oakville will build it. Anybody have info on its new features.. like engine and powertrain? I hope they keep the price in line with current models. I think it will be a big hit...only worry about hurting the more expensive Explorer!

  9. All I'll say about Roush at this time is he'd better find a way to look long and hard at what they're doing because brand new comers Penske and RPM in many cases are out racing the Roush cars with the same engines.

I have to agree that the Penske cars are qualifying fast and running in the top ten...however, Roush hasn't blown engines recently like Logano and Keslowski have while leading...which really hurt them. Hope they get that engine issue resolved! Are we going to be seeing the Doublemint Waltrip Twins on the microphone during the races next year...since Mikey is apparently in hot water...unless the Japanese Toyota Commanders want to keep him to continue attacking the American Fords and Chevies! Tora! Tora! Tora!

  10. As far as I'm concerned it's become too much of a free (courtesy of taxpayers) advertisement for them. Even some of the spectators at the cruise have this overriding, condescending arrogant attitude that if you're not driving anything but a GM vehicle it doesn't matter.

Frankly, if it's come to this point. In my opinion; it's time to shut it down for good. I'm sick and tired of seeing the same parade of Chevelles, Camaros, and Corvettes at every car show anyway.

I thought I was the only one who noticed that! So, you are a Robert Conrad fan! Black Sheep was good! He and Mr Gordon were in the western series. called Wild, Wild West! Will Smith did the remake!

  11. Now that the Dream Cruise is over, can anyone tell me if it has an official name? The local Channel 7 group always call it the "CHEVY Dream Cruise!" Seems like Chevy gets a lot of visibility from the local Channel 7 guys/gals who dress up like the 50's and constantly refer to it as the 'Chevy Dream Cruise' on Woodward! I always thought it was simply called 'The Woodward Dream Cruise! Whatever, its over!

  12. I don't think this is a case of classic engine failure. The car just stopped running, and the first fix attempted was replacing the PCM, not replacing the engine's guts.

Its either 'electrical' or 'mechanical'....and it appears they finally decided 'mechanical' (engine replacement!). Yes, most classic engine failures (I've had two of them) is the engine totally acting up....that's why we were suggesting that without any compression tests/bad cylinders etc...how did they arrive at needing a new engine?

  13. I'm not buying the "needs a new engine" BS at all. Ask them for a compression test with results etc. I agree with the poster who stated lets just sell this guy a new car. Generally speaking when an engine goes you know it.

Totally agree. I had a Chevy Blazer with 2 cylinders down...and you can tell when the engine is going. Compression tests should have been done. My daughter owns a 2010 Taurus and never had a single issue with this car. Fit/finish/paint are outstanding. Bought it May 2010! I would love to know the name of the dealer who apparently isn't too knowledgeable on vehicles..other than trying to sell new ones!

Taurus makes the list and MKS does also....though they did mention that the Taurus isn't the "worse" per say of the fullsized market, just the oldest and its hard to choose a Taurus over the Fusion...unless you want a performance car.

Alot of the comments where very critical of the choice also...

Read the same senseless bias from the writer for Edmunds. He had no actual data comparison to arrive at why HE DECIDED the Taurus made the list. I'm assuming since the Taurus is going on 4 yrs old its automatically considered out of touch with MFT, yet the Taurus continues to outsell the LaCrosse, 300, Cadenza, Avalon and even the Dodge Charger this past month.

Also, after the Consumers Report gave so much praise to the new Impala I had to read June/ Car and Driver and they were not that impressed....neither with performance or interior. Notice was made to engine noise and the high hood. If you look at the cowl over the gauges it looks like a floor mat was tossed over the dash instrument panel. The soft touches of the Taurus Limited are far more noticeable than the Impala. The price tag on the Impala is much higher than the older model which bore heavily on fleet/police orders. Despite all the bias, as mentioned, Taurus seems to handle the few critics with consistent monthly sales above and beyond the competition! (Does it sound like I own a Taurus...YES...my family has a 2010 and 2013. Neighbor just bought a 2014 and loves it!

  15. If you have ABS they're discs, otherwise they're drums. They normally wear out much slower than the fronts but the only way to be sure is to check it or have it checked. If there are no problems and you have pad or shoe material remaining you're ok.

    thanx!
