  1. Well folks - after 13 months of zero-compaint, pure joy experience with my 2013 MKZ Hybrid, the first unexplained issues has arrived.

Early last week every single onboard electronic warning list up my dashboard like a Christmas Tree ....

In summary - here is what I'm dealing with ....

Hill Assist No Available warning light

    AirBag Warning light

    Lane Keeping System unavailable

    Adaptive Cruise Control non-functioning

    Traction control warning light

Rear Camera parking aid not working

    Radio Flickering on and off

    Navigation system completely unreliable

Service Engine soon "wrench" icon warning light

My dealer has told me that it is a defective "Restraint control module"; unfortunately this is a part that is not readily available in stock and as such Ford/Lincoln is telling my dealer that mid-late June is a best case estimate for availability ...

Anyone else have this happen to them?

  2. Karl - what are you talking about ?

are you kidding me or are you serious ....?

    <not sure>

    :-)

    jschmitt3,

    STOP IT!!

    JUST STOP IT RIGHT NOW!!!

Here you go AGAIN, ruining yet another "discussion" of the MKZ's obviously fraudulent EPA mileage claims.

You say: "driving habits is a definite factor in achieving/not achieving EPA numbers in the real world ...."

    Total BS!

You are so full of BS!

Pretty soon you'll be claiming that the EPA mileage metric is intended to allow comparison of the mileage potential of different vehicles.

    I am on to you!

  3. First update in a few weeks ......

but Lifetime numbers are continuing to creep up as far as MPG ....

and the car continues its' great break in period ...

last night my normal 16.5 miles commute home (half high way, half city roads) hit an all-time best with a 57.2 MPG and 97% break score ....

highway speed 62 cruise, city driving between 35 and 42 all the way ....

I haven't even taken the car in yet for the PCM update ....

  4. Hey all,

Took one for a date/night test drive today... We drove 130miles, avarage 36mpg. Tank was full when we started.... after 130miles, tank was at exactly half....? This doesn't look right? It said the tank is hold 13gals right, so 36mpg it only used 3.6gals.... Should it be at 3/4 full?

Is this thing leaking gas? or the fuel guage isn't accurate?

    1) I believe the tank is officially listed at 13.5 gallons ....

    2) Keep in mind that gas pumps are all a little bit different in how they are calibrated as to when the first "click" on the pump sounds

    3) It has been my experience that the car does take indeed take 13.5 as I once filled it with 13.15 gallons, when I knew I was practically empty

    4) it looks like pumps will come anywhere from 1/2 to 1.75 gallons short of true "full" depending upon how they are calibrated

    5) interestingly, the on screen digital counter display seems to be more accurate as to how much gas I have used than the physical gas pump gauge. I tend to hit the first empty chime when I am at between 10 and 10.5 gallons used. by the time I get to 11, the gas pump gauge tells me that I am empty and by 11.5 I see the "negative red" indicator on the gauge.

    6) my gas gauge gets to "half-way" usually after the first 4.85 to 5.75 gallons used

I have gotten into the habit of never pushing the tank beyond 11 or 11.5 gallons of used gas before I take it to be refilled!

I am at 5k+ miles at the current moment - and my current fuelly numbers are below ....

  5. I was thinking the same thing myself ..... I am absolutely thrilled with the gas mileage I am getting ....

I am regularly getting 40-45 MPG going to work each day (14 miles) and consistently getting 50+ on the same trip home.

What "kills" my overall numbers (40.5 lifetime) are the short trips where my AC has to run at full throttle for the entire trip < 5 miles ....

    In these situations, I normally get between 20 & 25 MPG ......

I don't know if it is possible, but as tech guy, I'd love to see a more technical description of what this reprogramming will be doing

  6. Woot!

I just had my best tank so far ......

    463.7 miles, 11.061 gallons, 41.93 mpg;

But here's the thing .... I am regularly getting 45+ mpg per my most normal trips of between 6 and 15 miles each way ....

And I am also regularly getting well north of 90% on the braking scores ...... I'm up to 89% lifetime braking score ....

  7. there is a certain "subjectiveness" in this ....

I am 6 foot tall ..... when I sit in the back of my car - I have no problem with legroom unless of course someone who likes the driver/passenger seat all the way back is in the front.

(I compare it to where I would have the seat if I were driving) ....

On the other hand, when I do sit in the back (legroom not withstanding), my head is definitely close to the headliner .....

I'm sure if the reviewer was like 5 foot 9 or shorter they would find these spaces "excellent"

    John

I purely LOVE looking at, and driving around in, my hybrid MKZ, unequivocally the most satisfying car i've ever owned or driven.

But what planet (of midgets, dwarfs & elves?) is the NYTimes reviewer from?

"...Rear-seat headroom and legroom are excellent..."

  8. I laughed when I read the "Green Car Reports" review ....

10 miles for your initial review? LOL .....

What's the point doing a review (At any level) if you are going to drive it 10 miles ?

    And that tone shift continues...

Now that the media long ago finished raking the early, $50K+ V6 AWD MKZ's over the coals, they have finally realized that actually, NO!, the MKZ is not expected to single handedly cause Lincoln to dethrone Lexus; and that, YES!, people are actually buying a whole lot of them, the latest batches reviews have a far more positive tone. It appears that Ford, like it did with the Fusion, loaned the gas powered cars out for first round of reviews and then is following those up about 6 months later with hybrid test drives of much cheaper models. Everyone, especially the NY Times and Automobile Magazine, emerge impressed, and even Edmunds "they tricked us with the tires!" dot com takes back some of its earlier vitriol (although they still are grumbling at the end).

Good stuff. Here's the list (master guide on the first page updated as well):

    NY Times Hybrid Specific Review

    Valley New Review

    Edmunds Hybrid Specific Review

    Automobile Magazine Hybrid Specific Review

    Green Car Reports Hybrid Review

    Hollywood Reporter Hybrid Review

  9. Well a couple of things ....

    1) I always record both what the readout says as well as doing hand calculations .... through 5 fill-ups so far the 2 have never been of by more than 1.5 MPG; I am averaging (via hand calc) almost 39.5 MPG through approximately 2600 miles; my lifetime reading tells me 39.0 MPG

    2) my adaptive lights definitely move as well .....

    John

I have to wonder how many of the posted mileage figures are 'hand calculated' and how many are from the dash readout. I have about 3K on mine now, with a 40.3 lifetime readout. I can't believe that is accurate, however, since I always have a dashboard readout figure of 1.5 to 3 mpg higher than when I figure it by hand. Still, like many others, I am very happy with the car and the mileage, even if it isn't the EPA 45 figure.

Also, I have never been able to see the headlights move when rounding a curve.

  10. No. I got my car Feb 22nd. I've been on the road, traveling, since April 19th and have put a lot of miles on the car in 3 weeks, 4300+, and in a lot of conditions. I start home next week ... Another 2000 miles.

Ahhhhh ..... sorry for the confusion ..... how many miles do you have on the car total so far?
